Review Visit: July 17th, 2015…read more I have quite warmed up to the fact that Hot Springs are the best thing ever. Banff Upper Hot Springs is where I got my first taste. A few days later, we finally decided to do something besides explore Nakusp. We got everyone on the same page and headed towards Nakusp Hot Springs. Anticipations were high as everyone was ready for more relaxation and soothing scorching hot water. As we rolled up and got out of the van, the first thing I noticed is how quiet it was. Banff National Park is a really tourist-heavy area. Firstly, we had trouble parking due to the volume of people. Then, the pool was decently filled with people. But not here. The lot was nearly empty and there wasn't anybody in sight. The girls beat us in as they were more excited about it than us adults. Inside, it was apparent that it was a slow day for them. There was no line and before we knew it, we paid, changed clothes and were dipping our toes in the hot water. The water here was about the same temperate as the other hot spring. Its just hot enough to make you wonder if this is a good idea or not. After awhile, you body adjusts to it and you kind of just melt. Not literally, of course. As I expected, there were only a handful of people in the hot spring. This was great as the pool here was a bit smaller than the other. There was also a hotter spring next to the main pool that held the hotter water. Of course, we jumped in there after awhile. But again, we could only be in the hotter one for a short while as it will make you feel dehydrated and light-headed. It wouldn't be a trip to the hot springs if I didn't get out and do the cold shower during our time at this one. It was cold. It was intense. It was worth it. I convinced my cousin to do it as well and he was none-too-pleased after the fact. Everyone got a good laugh out of it. Overall, it was a good and relaxing experience before we all got geared up for the wedding that was a few days after this. I got my first taste of a hot spring in Banff. I fell in love with them in Nakusp.

When we drove up we were allowed to check out the sites and there was quite a variety considering how small it seemed overall We were in site #8 and if you have a choice (and capable vehicle) I strongly suggest spot 7 or 8. They are tucked away right beside a path down to the lake. Amazing views all around. The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is that some of the spots seemed close together (perhaps for group camping) and had I ended up in one of those on a busy weekend I would have been quite disappointed-spots 7 and 8 get 5 stars though!!! They have really nice, clean, and surprisingly well stocked bathrooms although only 1 for each sex so on a busy weekend may not be the best but I was expecting May Long to be busy so maybe this is just a hidden gem. Super close to Ainsworth Hot Springs and even closer to the lake.

Nifty Inn and restaurant in the historic rustic town of Silverton…read more The interior disappoints a bit as it looks to have been remodeled in the 1980's which is incongruent with the 1890s architecture. Looks like a century got transposed. The bar is fun, with locals and tourists mixing and pool, foozball,etc...Truthfully, the charming exterior belies the mundane experience on the interior. But its a nice little stop on a long travelled road.

We…read moredid not wish to lodge in one of the typical motel-type settings we saw in town, so toured around the outskirts a little, and found this property had their 'vacancy' sign lighted. After stopping in, and checking out a 'larger' room the Manager suggested, we decided to go for it. Some initial concerns with our decision, but they were quickly dispelled once we got settled in. Our room was rather large, with two queen-sized beds, small fridge, microwave oven, table & chairs, and etc. With the wood walls, et al, it looked much like the inside of a cabin. It "grew on us", and became quite "warm & friendly". We picked up some foodstuffs in town at the local supermarket for our dinner that evening (chicken, salads, garlic bread, and etc.), plus, visited a couple of craft shops (fun, and friendly - and some lovely offerings), and checked out the walkway along the lake in front of some of the beautiful lakeside homes (= gorgeous!!). Then dined outside, on a small patio in front of our room. With the gardens & forest setting, sunshine & warmth, food and drink ... we loved it!! A good sleep, breakfast in our room, and then it was on to Ainsworth Hot Springs the next morning -- with fond memories of our stay in Nakusp!!

We came in mid November and it was not crazy busy at all. We could actually hang out in the little…read moreparts of the cave to ourselves except for a couple spots where people sat and never seemed to leave. I think a guy must have been meditating there. Sometimes it's hard to see people in the caves and I actually thought this guy was a statue. The main pool feels like Luke warm water and the cold plunge is only big enough for maybe 4 people at a time. The caves are really the most desirable place to be if you like it hot. This place was overall much smaller than I expected though. We soaked for over and hour or so and then got ready for our dinner reservations and dinner was really great! It was about $150 for four of us to eat up there in USD. We grabbed some ice cream bars from downstairs as well for dessert. I liked this place and one night was enough. We arrived around 4:30pm, had dinner at 7pm and were in bed by 9pm. The next morning was a soak and then get ready and go. Great trip and lovely customer service.

Nothing worse…read morethan taking a shower where it was hard to control the hot and cold faucets during cold weather. I do like this place. It is quiet and tranquil with a gorgeous view of Kootenay Lake. There is a BBQ which can be used by guests in the outdoor common dining area on the upper level. There is a small play area with swings and a tree house. Adirondack chairs are scattered around, mostly towards the direction of the lake. The suites are mostly 1 and 2 bedrooms and they are spacious, with a living room (sofa bed) and small kitchen. The rooms are clean and each one have a different look. It is definitely not a cookie cutter,nondescript room. It is family run and the owners are friendly and ready with suggestions on dining places and activities. It is just 10-15 minutes drive away from downtown Nelson, so it is quite convenient to get around. It is also near Ainsworth Hot Springs and Kokanee Glacier Provincial Park. I will stay here again if I am ever in Nelson.
