BEEEEEER!
We hit up The Draft House on a recent Friday night for happy hour and some casual dinner. Good choice, and since I walk by this secret strip development every day -- I was happy to finally see these spots opening their doors! (along with Bone Daddies, Enoteca de Luca, etc).
I'm going to hold my comment on the "Mexi-Cali" fare. I'm sorry England, no. It just isn't right. It was passable at best, and we had drunk a lot of beer, but otherwise the food was a bit lacking according to each person at our table (5). I get the beer pairing (Lagunitas) and really striving for some Mexican fare, but it just wasn't what any of us were feeling.
Besides that -- ALL GOOD! The beer is great, the service was excellent! I made a booking that same day, and it was accommodated via email (and good thing, as it was pretty crowded with Euros on, Friday night, etc). We enjoyed some pickle backs, beer samplers...all around, beer is their thing, and beer they do very well.
Space is great, I like this tucked in location off Old Street! Plenty of room, and the split level keeps it feeling really spacious.
The last bit that I have to mention, as I was paying (with my UK bank card, Santander) -- the server asked me if I wanted a VAT receipt. I kind of laughed, I've lived here for 4 years...and was paying in GBP on a UK bank card. I guess my accent finally gave me away! Funny, it's the first time it's ever happened! I appreciate the gesture and will forgive the insinuation that I was acting like a tourist (I wasn't!). Maybe she felt my lack of enthusiasm for the "Mexican" food. Note the quotes.
Solid spot for some beer indulgence! read more
