It's not just huge, but also astonishingly varied. ANY person who loves pottery must go there when in England! On top of this, the museum also offers a fine art gallery - frankly, that one's not so special (hence, -1 star). The collection is limited, but you will find half a dozen paintings by the noted Manchester-based artist LS Lowry. The focus is on 19th and early 20th century British art. This is a "general purpose" museum, so it also covers local history and archaeology. The entry to the permanent collection is *free*, and you can take photos. There are a few lockers available on the ground floor (30p) and you will find a rather nice little café in the basement. During my visit there was a nice temporary exhibit on the history of Superheroes, which came with a UKP 5 charge. Great museum shop, too. The Potteries Museum and Art Gallery is, literally, the only real attraction in all of Stoke though, if you discount the parks.

This is the factory shop for the Moorcroft compnay and is on the same site as the factory and the…read moremuseum. It is the place to visit for all Moorcroft collectors and enthusiasts as it has a wide range of porducts on sale. There are the range of lamps on sale along with shades in all different designs. There are then various pots, vases, dishes and jars in either limited edition designs or general range. The shop also always has a good range of slight seconds which are below normal price. You can join the Moorcroft club and enjoy a 10% discount on items at the shop and this is also the place to visit for the factory tours which occur during the week. In the shop is one of the old bottle kilns which were used to fire the pottery. It is preserved for all to see and you can look inside it to see how it operated. A great place to visit for a very special gift.

The section that goes through the history of the toilet even has accompanying smells. There's a train station nearby or you can take advantage of the car park if you fancy a drive. Overall, Gladstone Pottery Museum provides an interesting day out that will give you plenty to talk about and enhance your appreciation of your loo!
