We thought we'd try it, having been to the PitStop in Kilkeel just a few nights ago. The…read moredifferences are stark. Service here was lax, the seating wasn't comfy, the fish and chips were not as well-cooked and certainly not as crisp, hot and tasty, but the worst of all was that it was almost double the price when we factor in the fact that the Kilkeel deal includes a soft drink. I really dislike being ripped off. The price difference would cover the fuel cost for the extra 24 mile round trip. Far better fish bites, chips and a soft drink was £3 a head cheaper in PitStop Kilkeel. The plates here also had a small amount of salad which was incongruous on the plate given the fact we were eating deep-fried, battered food. If we had ordered a fish and chip meal deal we would have had tea, bread and butter. The addition of these nominal cost tea & bread would have required another fiver a head. In short and sadly it's poor value and it's also below average quality and we will not return. We were also the only sit in diners - quelle surprise.

The Genoa - Not very customer friendly - toilets apparently closed! Hope the food is good. We'll see but I won't be kind.

Oh good grief. At last, at long last, I've found pizza that's worth eating…read more The last time I had pizza this good at this price I was in Naples at one of the notoriously good family places that had cheerful queues outside. I had intended just ordering a couple of portions of fish & chips here because I'd been a few times and they do do this food very well indeed. They use cod and Maris Piper potatoes so with ingredients this good it's hard to go too far wrong but there are places that manage to go wrong. Then as I looked at the menu I decided on one portion of fish & chips and a pizza. The reason was that it had dawned on me as I stood reading the menu that this was the guy who made pizzas in Fusion, a great restaurant which is just across the street from here. Fusion does great food and I began to recall the previous owner Mark praising this guys pizzas to me a few times. Having experienced bad pizzas before not least the overpriced and grim Dominos and Pizza Hut I tended to stop listening when people told me that pizzas somewhere around are great. So I abandoned one of the two fish & chip portions and instead I had a goat's cheese with chilli jam & basil. I was tempted by the fish offering but once I saw no anchovy I abandoned the thought. I tried the 9 inch size at just under £6 and it was a real taste sensation. I'd made the right choice. Now that I know it's so very good for pizza it'll be the 12 inch next time and I'll experiment with some other offerings.

Super impressed by this relatively new Chinese takeaway in Warrenpoint town. We got a mix of food…read moreincluding a few salt & chilli chicken, chicken curries, three chicken fried rices, curry sauces, noodles, fried and boiled rice and boneless salt & chilli pork spare ribs. The prices are all high end at just over £7 for a main chicken dish if fried rice is chosen, and the food will need to stay very good as Chinese takeaway meal prices have risen unjustifiably in the last few years. The portions were generous and all the food was very tasty indeed. We spent just over £50 and got a portion of prawn crackers free with the order. As we waited for our food to be cooked in the open kitchen in front of us we thought just how very difficult it must be to find yourself newly opened in this trade with so many businesses all around you closing and instant mass unemployment through the fear of a killer virus that is sweeping the planet. It's only March 2020 and all schools here are now closed to September. We are in a crisis with mass unemployment, the prospect of the nationalisation of swathes of industry and a right wing set of political nutcases who have systematically starved our health service of resources and it will not as it cannot cope with what it's about to face. We were the only customers there. The phone didn't ring once for take out orders either. I hope they survive. I hope we survive and I hope that sense will start to prevail post this grave crisis and our people will stop voting for right wing nutcases as they'll be the death of us all.
