We stopped by The Dutchess in Ojai for a quick bite for breakfast and it did not disappoint! I ordered a Bloody Mary to drink while waiting in line. The line was long but moves quickly. I ordered a ham and cheese croissant served with a gherkin and everything was absolutely delicious. The croissant was perfectly flaky and buttery, the ham and cheese were flavorful, and the gherkin added the perfect tangy crunch. The Bloody Mary was well-balanced and refreshing but I wish it had celery. The atmosphere was charming, relaxed, and exactly what you'd hope for in Ojai. The staff was friendly and welcoming, making the whole experience even better. I can't wait to come back and try more from the menu. Highly recommend if you're looking for a great breakfast or brunch spot!

The food is not bad, but I wish the waitress was more knowledgeable about their food. We ordered tea leaf salad and crispy rice, both of them taste almost exactly the same, ingredients are the same except one has tea leaf and the other one has fried shallot at top. The crispy rice has a little minty taste compared to the tea leaf. The beef satay is just okay, but all the dishes I mentioned here are all on the sour side. The biriyani is interesting, it is topped with pie dough, the cucumber side accompanying the biriyani is way too sour for my taste. The mussel I think is the best, perfect balance with great sour dough bread and nice sauce. This place is nicely decorated, very spacious.

Really lovely experience stopping in the grab a pastry and coffee. I went with the plum almond cake and cold brew. Barista was very kind and friendly for how early it was and answered my questions without hesitation. Inside was very pretty and I sat at the bar since I wasn't doing full dine in. I will say they forgot my cold brew in the rush but once it came out everything was delicious! One of the best pastries I've had!

We came here for dinner at a colleague of my wife's recommendation. We did not have reservations, but they still sat us quickly at one of their outside/sidewalk tables. The sidewalk tables are comfortable and the ambiance casual. Service was efficient and friendly. They have an extensive wine list, but we stuck with water. It seems the menu is prepared daily, as the cover of the paper menu had today's date on it. Dishes were a combination of traditional and innovative, with many vegan and gluten free options. We chose the Coconut Chickpea Curry, Zuckerman Farms Asparagus & Snap Peas and Wok Fired Beef Satay. The dishes were visually appealing, served hot, and brought to our table as they came out of the kitchen. You can tell they use fresh, quality ingredients and combine them in a sophisticated way. All good... except that I found the Asparagus and Satay dish overbearingly salty. Unfortunately, the saltiness overpowered all flavors in these two dishes.

Hands down the best cappuccino I've ever had. I don't know if it was the espresso or the milk but it had the most delicious taste with just the homemade almond milk and without any sweeteners added. Also had the cutest ambiance inside - would love to come back to try the food!

Still great, but one fewer star because they no longer offer the Croque Madame on weekends. This is tragic!

It was my birthday weekend celebration with my friends and I chose The Dutchess after a client recommended it to me. It did not disappoint. The service was fantastic, the pastries were tempting and freshly baked and the brunch was perfect. I ended up getting 2 sunny-side eggs with a side of potatoes. The potatoes were seasoned with yellow curry where it wasn't too much but just enough to detect it. I also ordered an almond croissant which the waitress put a candle on for me. I tried a bite of the spicy chicken and waffle; woooo was that tasty too!

Stopped in for coffee and pastries while visiting Ojai. They do offer a full brunch with hostess seating, but the front and outdoor seating areas are available if you're just stopping in for coffee and pastries. Both very well decorated. Orders are placed at the register and pastries are given to you right away, and you'll receive a table tent so they can bring your coffee out. The pastries were really good, with a nice variety to choose from. The only thing that would have made them even better is if the savory pastries were heated. The coffee, however, took quite a while to arrive. We had already finished our pastries and our table was cleared before it finally came out. I went back to grab a few more pastries, and while I was away, a gnat flew into my coffee. I brought it back to the register, and they graciously replaced it without any issue. The second cup came out quickly and was noticeably hotter than the first. It seems like Saturdays can get pretty busy, so it might be a better experience to visit during the week if you can. There are several public parking lots nearby, along with street parking

This place was good. They bake everything fresh in house daily starting at 4am so it is always the best of the best. The food was great! The service in my opinion, could be better. There are a lot of employees but it just seemed like they were busy doing everything else and attending to customers seemed to be second priority. Just my experience. I will say they charge a 4% "health tax" to help pay for employee health care so just prepare yourself for that.

This place was so delicious!! We finished every bite of our breakfast plates. The potatoes were cooked perfect and seasoned so well. The bacon was really good paired with the eggs and bread. The bread was sooo good. The eggs were also cooked perfect I got mine sunny side up. If you ever want a good breakfast spot go here! The inside was spacious and the service was good. I'm excited to try their dinner one day.

We had such a fantastic experience at The Dutchess. My husband, my in-laws, my brother-in-law, and I came in for dinner, and from start to finish everything was exceptional. Our server, Gabriel, truly made the evening special. My father-in-law is vegan and my husband has allergies to cashews and pistachios, which can sometimes make dining out stressful. Gabriel handled everything with confidence, care, and attention to detail. He walked us through the menu, offered thoughtful recommendations, and made sure everyone at the table felt comfortable and taken care of. The ambiance was beautiful, warm, and inviting, and every dish we tried was outstanding. We started with the naan and the Weiser Farms crispy potatoes, both of which were fantastic. The crispy rice salad and tea leaf salad were fresh, vibrant, and packed with flavor. For entrées, the coconut chickpea curry was comforting and delicious, while the organic tandoori half chicken was perfectly cooked and incredibly flavorful. We also enjoyed the duck breast, which was beautifully prepared and a standout dish. Dessert was just as impressive. The mango lassi ice box pie was bright, refreshing, and unique. We also loved the sticky rice donuts, especially paired with the pink guava sorbet and sesame gelato. What stood out most was the level of service. Gabriel struck that perfect balance of professionalism, knowledge, and genuine hospitality. The entire experience felt elevated and effortless, honestly the kind of service you expect at a Michelin-starred restaurant. We'll absolutely be back and will be recommending The Dutchess to everyone we know.

    EXTREMELY SALTY congee
    Jocelyn S.

I really wanted to like this spot. It's so beautifully decorated and roomy. But the congee was inedible from how salty it was. I sent it back and they said they'd remake it without any salt. It came back just a tad less salty, still very salty. I finished it anyway with my cappuccino because their food is on the pricy side ($9 for a ham and cheese croissant). I'd stick to just the pastries next time.

Cafe turns into a Burmese restaurant at night. Atmosphere once you walk into the posterior part of the restaurant has a moody vibe. Crispy rice salad is an explosion of flavor. A lot of textures and crunch. The Biryani looks like a chicken pot pie on the outside but is all basmati rice with few pieces of lamb inside. Puri is duck liver with this sweet jam served with fried naan. It is nice in smaller amounts but she a few bites, it was a bit much for me. I think I'm used to naan not being sweet and the combo of sweet fried naan with sweet duck liver was too different than the usual savory I expect. The best dish in my opinion was the organic tandoori half chicken. The chicken is juicy, good portions, masala was flavorful but not too much. Although I didn't like the other dishes as much, they were nice to try. It's a lot of flavors going on, so still a pleasant experience.

They are wrapped in a fried and crispy shell and were so much lighter. The tea leaf salad was a must get as well. So many different textures between the pumpkin seeds, peanuts, and greens. We had to get our own water, and the only service provided was that the staff brought the food to our table. What made the experience even more uncomfortable was the checkout process. I handed my credit card to the server, and when he returned, he simply gave me the receipt without asking for my signature or explaining any additional charges. It was only after reviewing the receipt that I discovered a 15% gratuity had already been added automatically. For a dining experience that involved little more than food delivery to the table, I do not believe an automatic 15% gratuity is justified. More importantly, it was not clearly disclosed beforehand. Charging a mandatory 15% gratuity for a party of only three people feels more like a hidden fee than a fair charge based on the actual level of service provided.

There seems to only be one server so things can take some time but otherwise, the service is good! It's located in a small strip mall with relatively easy parking but some spots can be a bit tight. All the starters were delicious choices and, although the paratha was a little oily, it went super well with the peas and curry. The prawn curry was a flavor explosion with the prawns being perfectly cooked and the gravy rice was packed with veggies and a good amount of gravy. Some people in our party are vegetarian and everything besides the prawn curry were good choices for them. For desserts and drinks, we ordered RC Trio Delight, Smashed Strawberry Drink, and Rangoon Milk Tea. We actually went for ice cream afterwards to congratulate ourselves on getting through it. Jasmine has a lovely shaded patio. You place your order at the counter with a guy who's really nice. There are only two menus and the images are faded and extremely hard to read. The best dishes (but still not great) Potato samosas - nothing special Keema paratha - This bread, filled with ground chicken, was fine but not my kind of thing. Plain naan - unusual in that it was flakier than usual. Pan Thay Kwak Swe - thick wheat noodles with chicken drumsticks. This wasn't really anything special. Avoid Tea Leaf Salad. I've had lots of tea leaf salads but never any that I didn't want to eat any more of. The flavor was too pickled. It was also spicier than usual. (I don't mind spice but didn't love the flavor.) Pae Late (J's Special). This dish consists of thin lentil fried dough in broth with chicken. Unfortunately the dough was totally soggy which ruined this dish. I didn't like the flavor of the broth either. No one wanted more of this dish, nor did anyone want to take it home. It would be much better if the fried stuff was served on the side for the customer to add like when I have samosa soup. We've thought about going a few times, but something always came up, or it was Sunday when they're closed. We had a school event at our son's school, and we really didn't want more PTA pizza. Our son wanted McDonald's, but we asked him to try something new, and I'm so glad we did. He loved it so much and already wants to come back! I noticed there was a coupon available on Restaurant.com for Yoma Myanmar, but the owner informed me they are no longer accepting them and have already contacted the site to be removed. I was initially bummed because the coupon was a great deal and I'd already purchased it, but its always a good idea to double check before ordering. I'm certainly glad I did! I asked for recommendations, and the owner was wonderful - she explained the menu, which regions of Myanmar the dishes originated from, and what she thought we would enjoy. We decided to start off with some Fried Samusas ($14.99) and the Tea Leaf Salad ($16.99). For our entrees, we shared two mains: the Beef Curry ($19.99) and the Shan Noodle Soup ($15.99). The owner was so sweet; I think she felt bad about the coupon situation because she gave us some complimentary rice and a Coconut Jelly for dessert. The Fried Samusas were quite good and a perfect appetizer to share. I've always known Samusas to be of Indian origin, but the Burmese style is smaller and crispier, featuring a milder blend of spiced potatoes, onions and lentils. For those who enjoy a bit of heat, the dipping sauce served on the side is quite spicy and serves as a great complement to the samusas. The Tea Leaf Salad is a crunchy, savory Burmese dish made with fermented tea leaves, assorted nuts, toasted sesame seeds fried yellow split peas, fried garlic and chopped tomatoes. I loved the texture of this dish; it was highly addictive, and I couldn't stop eating it! The flavor profile is a wonderful mixture of savory, sour, and earthy notes. This is definitely a dish I recommend giving a try. The Beef Curry was smothered in a rich sauce was absolutely delicious - it was my wife's favorite dish. She even mentioned that she'd definitely come back for this dish alone. The meat was incredible tender and flavorful. Shan Noodles is a popular Burmese dish originating from the Shan State, made with rice noodles. The garnish includes toasted peanuts, sesame seeds, fried garlic, chopped cilantro, and green onions. We chose pork as our protein, and it was a solid dish that both my son and I really enjoyed. Because the noodles are served dry with the soup on the side, you can add the broth to tailor the dish exactly to your liking. This is a hidden gem in Monterey Park that is well worth visiting. We'll definitely be back to order these favorites again and explore more of the menu.
