Discounted books and autographed books are sold here. The far back of the store offers a variety of local artwork and handcrafted merchandise. The store is 100 percent solar powered with big solar panels covering the roof. I stopped here recently since I had a gift certificate to use. I picked up an autographed "NH" history book and a kids book during my visit to the store.

I carefully put my laptop, wallet, glasses, and clean paper wrapper containing the cafe's fresh veggie sandwich half, all on the broad counter for a moment, in the manner of Lucille Ball. I'm old enough that she was my mentor in a special graduate class on clowning, eons ago. But the bookstore clerk zeroed in on the sandwich. "Get your greasy sandwich off the counter. This is a bookstore." Who talks like this? Yes, the wrapped sandwich was anomalous there, matter out of place but for a moment. He had no right to sound this way, but I apologized. The purchase came to under twenty. He was so excitedly thrilled by this. "You can't have a book stamp because you didn't spend twenty today!" He bounced as he said it. New to the discount program because who cares, I quietly accepted this news. "See?" He went on, "Look. It says so right there, right on the bookmark!" I gave no reply to him. "But, of course, everyone just hates to read!" There was no humor going on. He was claiming the right to scold an old person for being nothing but that, in his eyes. I'm older and small in size. What a bully! I looked him in the face and said, "What is wrong with you?" Off balance, he said, "Nothing. This is just what's called having a sense of humor." He turned and sped off. There was no 'thank you' to complete the transaction. To me, a comic to the core, incivility is not humor at all. It's disrespect. It's a man Indulging in meanness towards an older woman because he can get away with it here and there. "Get your greasy sandwich off the counter," was so inappropriate to say, to anyone, the cruelness of it must have felt like free-flight. It was so absurdly rude he brought to mind Monty Python. I spend up to $400 a month on books. I find everyone else here at Toadstool polite, but similarly distracted and disinterested in the customers, except for the owner. But no one else is disrespectful except for this guy.

They had a staff's pick section which intrigued me. So the next day was raining and off I went. So great. The layout was perfect the staff including the owner who rang us up, were so kind and patient and helpful. My wife and I spent a couple of hours in the store and left with a couple of months of reading. If you love books and enjoy reading and happen to be near Nashua make a detour and go here. Extra plus to people not from the area no sales tax in NH!!!!

With a wonderful public library, and a wonderful college in town, New London also features Morgan Hill Bookstore as one of its cultural anchors. It is refreshing to enter the store. The store changed ownership to a wonderful couple in May and the new owners have been doing their best in reorganizing and putting their own signature on the place. Service is absolutely flawless. And variety is plentiful. From best sellers to sci-fi to cooking and As hard as it is to maintain a bookstore in the cyber age, three owners are doing it write well, with sales - they just recently had a sidewalk sale, providing for added value to the customer. One wonderful business in a great town.

You immediately get that smell of old books when you walk in. That leather bound scent that just doesn't exist in books that are made now in days. I always wonder about the people who previously owned these books, were they treasured? given by a loved one? These aren't thoughts I contemplate when I'm at Barnes and Nobles. (Don't get me wrong though; I live B&N) It's worth a visit, even if you don't end up buying anything.

The name I drew (again) asked for candles and since I'm 2800 miles from home I made the trek to Bernsrdston to see if I could score some something different from the offerings back in Nevada. The helpful and courteous staff was right there when I needed assistance. Lord of scents and styles for your candle shopping. Seriously, check out the clearance area. I was blown away by the great prices! I knocked out my Christmas shopping in one stop. Highly recommended.
