Highlights of the tour were some of the art and presentations they have on the history and making of Scotch. I also really enjoyed how they gave you a sheet that shows examples of some common tasting notes you can expect from each region. I learned that Islay Whiskey was my favorite region to sip from just because of how smoky their Whiskey can be. I had a great time. After the tour they give you an example of each region so you can compare and contrast. On top of everything, the people working there were very enthusiastic and friendly. If we ever came back to Edinburgh I might even want to go again just because of the fun experience.

The new state of the art space is absolutely enormous, very modern and sleek, multi-leveled with enormous windows to let in loads of natural light (and, artistically I imagine, to allow visuals of the city to spill into the room with you), and has a lot going on. As of writing this, you can do a: 1. Classic Tour & Tasting (75 minutes, £28 per person) 2. Gin & Chocolate Pairing (90 minutes, £35 per person) 3. Mix & Muddle Cocktail Class (120 minutes, £50 per person) 4. Gin Making Experience (3 hours, £140 per person) I can't speak to any of them at this point, but whichever you choose BOOK IN ADVANCE. You can also stop by to simply pick-up a bottle at their shop or have a drink at their bar which is open to the public (in nicer weather, enjoy their rooftop terrace). I was lucky enough to be here on their opening weekend, and was allowed a private tasting (still not entirely sure how that happened). The Rhubarb & Ginger gin is lovely and well rounded, the Orange & Basil is a little too basil forward for me, the Raspberry Gin is good but I think Stirling Distillery has them beat there, all of the liqueurs are somehow fantastic, but most importantly: if it's available, you have to get the tiramisu gin. It's one of the most unique things I've ever tasted!!! This is my favorite gin in the world; we always have a bottle of Seaside on hand! Getting to this place is a big task though, and the bigger and more difficult task is getting out of there if you have don't have your own car. We reached the spot using Uber but we couldn't find any Uber or taxi service to get out and into the city. There is a bus stop right opposite and the bus did not stop. We tried asking the security guard for some help as the staff left and no one were in there, but he kinda shooed us away. That was very rude. Then, we had to walk a lot to reach a train station.

This is a live distillery so it was fantastic to experience a functioning business and the steps and history behind the production of this mellow whiskey. My only complaint is that machines are very loud so it was difficult at times to hear our tour guide so be sure to get up close to him/her, they won't be creeped out or maybe they will be who cares you have paid for the experience. At the end of the tour we got to relax in the bar and have a whiskey, it really was a lovely end to a great week in a very cool city!

Yes, I had some difficulty understanding the Scottish accent, but it's okay. The tour started with a quick coffee break at Calendar. Then we stopped at Trossachs Woollen Mill- This is possibly the most easiest way to spot highland cows in Scotland. The second stop was somewhere in the Scottish Highlands: beautiful surroundings, so soothing. Then we stopped at Commando Memorial, Fort Augustus Locks, and Loch Ness View Point, Fort Augustus. Each stop was a 15-45 min stop, depending on how big that attraction was. Loch Ness (Fort Augustus) was 2 hrs+ stop, as a few folks had to go on a boat tour. The bus was comfortable, and the guide kept telling us about stories of the highlands, Game of Thrones, Harry Potter, and stuff. Overall, it was a tiring but fun day, knowing many facts, stories, and visiting such a beautiful part of the world.

The tour director, a pleasant German man I can't remember his name said, taxi? Hell no. I'm getting off in 15 minutes and I drive right past there on my way home. He directed us to wait in the cafe and brought us two drams of Kingsbarns flagship whiskey called Doocot to sip while he locked up. He chatted about his love for whiskey distilling all the way to our drop off. He loves his job no doubt. An amazing experience from start to finish and I highly recommend you visit here. We got to sample 4 of their different small-batch gins, learn about their flavor profiles, the history of gin, and what they pair best with. My friend and I had such a good time at Gary's new gin tasting session, we got a gin and tonic on…read morearrival and then got to taste a large selection of gins of different categories (which meant there was something for everyone) that Gary makes himself, with his own recipes on bespoke copper stills! At the end you even get to choose between loads of different gins he's made as a wee extra. I tasted the chilli chocolate orange gin, as well as the raspberry and ginger one. They were both fab!! All the gins we tasted were Gary's, but all around the room were lots of other scottish gins on display, and Gary would answer any questions we had about them. Gary was so informative and friendly and made the whole experience so much more enjoyable, and it felt so much more personal as it was a nice small group in a small distillery that is there to provide a fun experience rather than just make money! Overall it was a fantastic experience and I would love to come back again and try the other experiences such as the one where i can make my own gin and take it away with me at the Sip Antics Gin School!! Short TLDR version: From first email to when Michael dropped us off at our hotel after our tour, everything was perfect. Everything. Do not hesitate to book With Drams Scotland, they will take care of you. Read on below if you want more details. We are a demanding group of Americans and we wanted to see Scotland and drink Whiskey, a lot of whiskey. I emailed with 4-5 tour companies asking about options for travel and distillery visits and to be fair, several companies seemed like they would have worked out. What stood out about Drams was Ann Marie seemed to innately know what we wanted, and her proposed itinerary blew the competition out of the water. Drams does many different kinds of tours. Spending time chatting with Michael, our tour guide and drunk wrangler, he told us about the many different kinds of tours they offer. I saw on Yelp that many reviews are for one or two day trips, and thats cool, but we did a 5 day trip and I honestly wish it could have been longer. If you are looking for a Highlander tour, they do that. Want to see Loch Ness? They do that too. You and 300 other Americans will be there taking pictures of a large body of water, brilliant. If you want to see Scotland the real, American way, well they have that tour nailed down and I highly recommend it. Whiskey! 5 days, no mercy. 12+ distilleries, private tastings, private dinners, local pubs, sheep, great B&B's, great sites, hikes to castles, trips to the coast, two drunken ferry rides, more sheep, scary small local roads, fish and chips (get the cod), pies (the meat kind), pints and pints of beer, cool towns, and the best part, avoiding other tourists. You know whats better than snootily sipping whiskey in an overpriced bar in America? Drinking it strait out of the cask in Scotland. You seriously do this at several distilleries. To really be able to see the great distilleries you need a good guide. We were able to tour Balvenie, a truly amazing and very private tour, because Michael has to connections to get you in there. We were drinking 50 year old Lagavulin at 930am in their barrel house cause we wanted to start our day off right. We played pool with the locals in the town pub till they closed the bar, while the tourists ate at their tourist trap hotels. We saw the castle from Monty Python, some sheep, where they filmed Braveheart (do not discuss Braveheart with Michael, he will tell you the truth about William Wallace and try to convince you that Robert the Bruce was the real hero), hiked to a cool castle that I do not remember the name of, learned many local sayings that I arrogantly use at home now, and laughed so hard the whole time our faces hurt. And whiskey. If you are thinking of booking a Whiskey tour, do it, and do it with Drams Scotland, you will not be disappointed.
