I suggest the Red Line as it passes most of the major sites. Ride the loop once first to get your bearings and decide what you want to see when. I suggest getting off at Edinburgh Castle, take the Castle Tour, then start exploring the shops/restaurants/whiskey sellers along the Royal Mile so you're walking downhill :).

Our first stop was Rosslyn Chapel where we heard its history and had ample time to tour inside and out, which included the short hike down the hill to Rosslyn Castle. From there we made our way to Melrose for lunch and a tour of Melrose Abbey. We weren't able to tour inside since it's currently undergoing restoration but we were able to see the burial site of Robert the Bruce's' heart and walk the grounds. Next we made the drive to Hadrian's Wall and were able to walk along the wall where Roman soldiers stood in 122 AD; incredible! Finally we made a stop at the borders where we were able to be in the two countries at once. We had a fantastic day and loved Angela!

This week I book a private tour to the Highlands, Loch Ness, Fort William to show my sister how beautiful Scotland is. Our driver/guide Arina picked us up from the hotel in Edinburgh and for the next 12 hours kept us entertained with historical facts, beautiful sceneries, nice music. Then a couple of days later, we took another tour and this time Mike was our guide. We visited the Dunfermline Abbey, Sterling Castle and Rosslyn Chapel. I researched tours for several days and couldn't…read moredecide, but finally decided on this one since it takes you to the Greyfriars Cemetery and the Underground Vaults. It's approx 2 hours long and our tour guide Lou was great! I was a bit nervous with there being 30 or so people on the tour that it would be to large of a group but it never felt like I couldn't hear. We went to the cemetery in the daytime to walk around and I'm glad we did. We got the lay of the land and saw some graves in the light that would have been a bit harder to see during the tour. But then at night the cemetery tour was just the added info to add to the visit. There was lots of talking about spirits and things previous tours saw, but I never experienced anything. Did that take away from my tour? No. I was there for the history and atmosphere. A ghost encounter would have been a bonus.

However, if you're looking for a frightening experience, I wouldn't get my hopes up on this one. Although we spent a considerable amount of time in a cemetry, trekked down questionable staircases under the city on a guided tour that started at midnight, I don't remember a time when I was close to being terrified. That being said, it was a fantastic experience, as quite a few sites were squeezed into the programme! Our guide was extremely competent, and I have to say he was a very talented storyteller. I wish I knew his name so I could mention it here! Our group was also quite sizeable, which may have reduced the fright-factor considerably. It was also quite amusing to see the Spanish language tour, which was taking place almost simultaneously to ours. Looking through my pictures from that night, it seems I was quite fascinated by headstones. My best memories ofcourse were of waiting for complete silence and sneaking up on my friends! I would definitely recommend you do that, specifically in the cemetry!

The suites are too small and not suitable for day travel unless you are sleeping, the result being, the observation car is tightly packed barely able to accommodate the passengers. The food was good but the nightly entertainment was ghastly. All in all, a very mediocre experience not up to Belmond's standards!

First trip to Edinburgh Scotland! My friend booked us a tour at The Choclatarium, and I have to say…read morethe tour was so great! Carina the tour guide was informative with a great personality. She imparted her knowledge with enthusiasm and some humor sprinkled in. We arrived a little late for the tour we booked and we're not made to feel bad about it. We were asked if we had any dietary restrictions and I told her I was vegan. The woman that checked us in let the tour guide know. Every part of the tasting, I was provided with vegan version. It was all so delicious! We were given drinking chocolate when we arrived, it was made with oat milk. Warm, rich and creamy..so good! After a talk, we were led into a room where we sampled chocolate and then made our own chocolate bars. I was provided with dark chocolate, vegan marshmallows and I added a pinch of red pepper flakes. I poured into a mold shaped like a castle. Best chocolate bar ever! While we waited for our chocolate bars to set. We listened to some history of the cocoa beans and the guide made a drink that we all toasted to. She explained the ingredients the Aztecs used as she mixed it up, minus the blood of a human sacrifice. This was an amazing experience, I would highly recommend!
