It's fast approaching that time of the year where everything feels so hectic. Yes, it's Christmas…read more Well, soon it will be. So the next few weeks will mainly consist of writing lists, choosing gifts, spending money, eating rich food and drinking lots of wine.. (I know I'm not alone here?!) The hustle and bustle slowly intensifies with the crescendo on December 25th when the big man himself makes an appearance. Then. We. Can. Relax. It's difficult at Christmas to keep the stress at bay, with so many things to do before the big deadline day so make sure you take some time out to look after yourself. Whether it's between now and Christmas, or soon after when you begin to wind down, I have the perfect thing in mind for you. A little coach house in Chorlton is home to The Buddha Beauty Company, a tranquil hideaway that welcomes all. Down a small cobbled street on Beech Road this quaint salon owned and managed by Llewelyn Thomas brings your own mini experience of an exotic getaway in the Far East. That is where Llewelyn found most inspiration during his decade of world travel which he has used to stretch his skills far wider than you would expect from a small town salon. Leave your stresses and strains at the door The staff here have such a warm welcome and cater for everyone's needs. There is a 'open door policy' inviting everyone in, even if you don't have a treatment booked. You are more than welcome to sit in the soothing environment of the salon and choose from a list of speciality teas to sip your troubles away with nothing but the sound of pan pipes to ease your mind. Got the dog? No problem, fido is welcome too. With a water bowl, some treats, toys and pet friendly staff your canine buddy will leave The Buddha Beauty Company just as relaxed as you are. (I *love* this) All of the products used and sold here are completely homemade and organic. It's only when you see the enormity of the range that you will truly realise just how much work goes into each and every product. That's true love isn't it? The Buddha Beauty Company pride themselves in bring you great products at great prices with an aromatherapy full body massage only costing £45, and I can assure you that would be £45 well spent! There's plenty more on offer too, here are just some of the treatments they offer: Deep cleansing facial - £30 Luxury manicure/pedicure - £20/£25 Eyebrow re-shape - £8 Full leg waxing - £20 Reiki - £40 Vortex Healing - £40 Pregnancy massage - £40 Reflexology - £40 Indian head massage -£30 And many more... The Buddha Beauty Company describes themselves as 'a spa without the water' and it's completely true, your experience here will feel similar to that of a larger spa, but of course a lot more personal. Call 0161 971 3468 to book your appointment today. They are open between Monday & Saturday 10am - 6pm, with Thursday as their late night until 8pm. The regeneration of Hulme in the late'80's and early '90's brought many invaluable businesses to…read morethis area and facing Hulme market, Afro World is one of them. I am a curly girl with tresses which vary from sleek and shiny on a good day, to a frizzy halo- depending on the weather. Although certain high street chains and chemists have woken up to the fact that yes, we are a multicultural Britain with a diverse population who have individual needs, their range of products for people of colour can be very limited. This is not a political rant, it is a cold, hard, consumer fact. Afro World is a saving grace and "limited" is not a word that applies here. Having entered its hallowed doors, you have never seen so many hair and skin products in your life! There are rows and rows stocking brands such as Soft n Free, Dark n Lovely, Ultra Sheen and Pink, to name but a few- seriously the shop sells hundreds of them. The name of this store is a tad misleading as this mecca also sells makes for European and Asian hair types. You can buy a good quality real hair wig for only £29, extensions, and curly or straight pony tails line the shelves and offer you the ability to alter your appearance every day of the week. Handy for Geminis or international spies. The owners really know their stock inside and out. This is an incredible talent, considering how many lines are sold there, and they are always on hand to give you help and advice. Not many men ( with the obvious exception of hairdressers) are able to discuss with you whether you suit a wavy weave or a head full of corn rows in a truly macho fashion. Afro World also sells a good range of make-up for Asian and Afro-Caribbean skin and various hair accessories . It is open Mon-Sat 9am-6pm and on Sunday from 11am-5pm. Be aware that the shop is closed for prayer on Fridays from 1.30-2.30pm. So if you fancy a wicked weave, exceptional extensions or just need to stock up on your Kirby grips then this shop has it all.
