Well, before I caught the train I ducked in here for a drink, something that I really needed because, well, it was a stinking hot day, almost like an Australian summer day as opposed to an English summer day. Friendly staff and good food. Nice ambiance and atmosphere. A little too loud on the music to have a conversation without shouting. Burgers were great. The slaw was unique and tasty. The fries are good also. The drink variety is decent. I would recommend this for a pub in neighborhood. read more

Went for bottomless brunch last week and it was an overall great experience. you do have to make a reservation online but it was super easy and had lots of availability. You cant make the reservation day of, but the computer let me so even with a bit of miscommunication when we got there they were very accommodating! food was classic pub food and did the trick, bottomless drinks kept coming for 2 hours. pretty good deal for 33£ ended up having an entree, 3 mixed drinks each, and shared a bottle of prosecco. super chill vibes in there with the soccer games on, nobody bothered us and was easy to get staff attention when we wanted more drinks! read more

It sounds like a cool place but honestly I was a bit disappointed. When it comes to food and booze you will find your standard pub grub. And if you want to watch a game they have TVs everywhere. The reason I'm giving it a lower score is the booths are really uncomfortable. The benches are really high so that only the tall can touch the floor. Plus they are far apart so that with the loud music you can't lean back and have a conversation with the person across from you. Okay, I had to go in and have a pint at The Famous Cock. Who wouldn't? It's a pretty standard place, other than the rather cheeky name. Very nicely located right next to the Highbury & Islington Tube station. Perfect for that after-work libation before heading the rest of the way home. No football on today, which is just as well because I'm an American and I think football needs to be played in pads and helmets with a break for a commercial every 30 seconds. Went for lunch during a weekday. Restaurant was pretty empty, there were only two other tables with patrons. The service was very slow which was unexpected since it really wasn't busy at all. The fish and chips we ordered were quite oily and we had to ask for dipping sauce. The booth we sat in wasn't too clean and had greasy finger prints on the chair. Walked by here plenty later after work and it seemed to be a lot more popular. Maybe just people getting a pint before heading home. Overall it was just ok compared to other pubs we've been to. read more

The Famous Cock Tavern is our go to pub when we are getting off at Highbury Islington tube stop, want a drink and don't feel like going to a pub closer to home. The pub is fun and inviting. It's a great place to watch a sports event. It does get crowded but I never feel squished. Normally when we arrive we order a few drinks, find a table and just chill. The pub is a great space for that. If you want a snack the nachos and chips are great, they offer other standard pub fare. I like the Famous Cock Tavern; it definitely has its own identity as far as pubs go. If you want a standard pub with a slightly different feel, you should check it out. read more

The Famous Cock Tavern. Famous for what? I've been here a couple of times. The only reason that I chose to come here was as a meeting point to go somewhere else. It's location is ideal being situated right next to Highbury and Islington station. That is all that I can think that has any drawing power to this place. In fairness, it's not a bad pub, it's just that there are so many good drinking places in the area, that this pub has no pulling power. The interior is okay, if a littlle bit tired, The staff are friendly and efficient. Okay selection of beers. It lacks a little atmosphere. I would come here again, but just as a meeting point before moving on to somewhere else. It is not a pub I could see myself having a social night in though. read more

Whenever I get off at the Highbury and Islington tube stop it still makes me smile like I am in on an inside joke. The pub itself is suitable. It's nothing special, but it makes for a good meeting space. and they have a beer garden, and the bartenders are usually quite young and friendly, and have a tendency to make some good music choices. There is a good tv for sports watching (if you are into that sort of thing). Downstairs they have a venue and if you are lucky you can hear the music while sitting upstairs. FREE MUSIC! haha. Say what you will about the Famous Cock but you must say that it has a fantastic name. Other than that, it's a big standard pub, which is frequent by Gooners before and after the football (like me!). They don't let in opposing teams so the atmosphere is friendly, unless we lose and then it's miserable. But miserable together! They have a big TV, plenty of different whiskeys and a variety of decent beers. They also have a decent little garden area. Not pretty but useful. Much like this pub. read more

It is a great place to watch football, and as it is in the heart of Arsenal territory the atmosphere is lively. There are plenty of seats, plus there are screens dotted about the venue should your view be obscured by taller patrons. A word of warning though, don't support Spurs too loudly if they beat Arsenal. read more

The service is slow and the bouncer is very rude to put it politely. My friends and I were there on Friday 1st November. When it was closing time, my girl friend had to go to the toilet and we waited inside the bar for her. If you didn't manage to score a ticket to the game, you can relax here in the warmth indoors of this large old fashioned tavern. There are several TV screens and a large projector, so you don't miss a single shot. The food is pretty good and reasonably priced, with nachos, chips, burgers, sandwiches and steak on offer. Selection is always tough however after talking to the bartender about beer selection and tasting two of them, we both selected the Doombar (£7.90 for 2). I just can't help it, I love the famous cock! Even though it has been refurbished recently, and it looks so much better, there is still a slightly dirty edge to this pub. And that is what's great about it. Cheap drinks (I mean, CHEAP), bargain basic pub food, a smoking area and a few rough types. It all adds up to the perfect night out in Highbury as far as I'm concerned. Not really fussed about the football, but if Arsenal are playing, this is another one of those local pubs which is packed to rafters, which suits it rather well. Went to the Famous Cock (well who wouldn't) to meet some friends who live locally (I am from Leicester) to watch the rugby last weekend for the Ireland - England Grand Slam game. Pub was very busy with all screens on the game. We had a seating booth next to some French dudes would didn't seem that interested in the game. The atmosphere was very cordial with many England supporters (naturally) and some Irish followers too. Pity about the result but the game was nail biting right to the end. I was very taken when not watching the game, with a pretty young blonde sitting at a middle high table between the bar and the French dudes in the booth next to ours. She was wearing jeans and a white thin sweater top and had a beautiful full smile, a small button nose and bright sparkling eyes. Can not have been more than 5 foot 3 inches tall. What a babe! I would have approached her if I hadn't been drinking beer (boozy breath never impresses) and that the high table she was at was occupied by about 7 blokes of around here age or a little older, one could have been her bro, one I think was her boyfriend wearing an England shirt. He pulled her towards him now and again and whilst she smiles her dazzling smile I am sure she seems a little put out by the handling. Would love to know if I was wrong and she is not dating - but being so gorgeous I doubt that very much - as I would love to meet her for a drink and chat to see if I could catch her attention. I stumbled across this boozer just coming out of Highbury & Islington Tube Station, and fooled into thinking it was a Wetherspoons pub, "BOY WAS I WRONG!!!" inside it has that traditional style Wetherspoon's style decor inside with plenty of seating area, atmosphere I would say was chilled and quiet, and even the Bar had that Wetherspoon's kinder look to it, but that's where it ends, when I bought 2 drinks in there the guy charge me over £8 hmmm!! perhaps this little boozer is a little on the pricey side for me, would I recommend it! if you got lots cash in your wallet or purse I guess you can try it as for me nah!! there is lots more boozers out there with a better more value for your (££££!!) pound I think.. read more
