Quite disappointing experience. I should first start off stating the food is the only reason why this place didn't get a 1 star. The rating is simply the service. We came here for the tasting menu and it was about 10 courses. We were immediately rushed. Right when we sat down, we were asked if they could start appetizers when we haven't even ordered cocktails. The first few appetizers were placed one after the other and the server rushed through her explanation of the courses talking really fast and in a monotone. I didn't understand why the rush. We had to ask her to slow down so we weren't quickly finishing our bite before the next course. Secondly, I know this may sound snooty but if I'm paying for tasting menu, ($125 pp party of 4) I expect the utensils and plates to be changed out so the sauces and spices doesn't interfere with the next dish. To be fair, for the most part the dishes were changed out by the hostess and server but a few times they weren't and it was due to the manager. He didn't seem like a regular server. The tables were incredibly close together. The place was just small and intimate. As for the food, it's okay. Some dishes were too salty but it's okay. Corn tamale, kingfish, and chicken were tasty. I'm not quite sure if I would recommend to be honest. The food didn't wow us. It was just decent.

Small intimate venue. Easy online booking. Service was friendly. Food is good, but nothing to rave about. We shared the sando, radicchio salad and a pork chop. The best part was the pork chop. The salad was on the bland side. The sando was too small and would not recommend.

The yellowtail was the best. The whole dish worked well so together. We also tried the the sourdough bread with leek green garlic spread, the pasta dish, the rice balls, and the orange yogurt rhubarb dessert. To say everything was perfect would be an understatement.

The food here is really tasty!! We were both pleasantly surprised by how much flavour both our dishes had. The kale salad was so refreshing and the red cabbage schnitzel was really satisfying. Also the bread with the grape/nigella butter is BOMB. Ate it before taking a picture! Resto vibe is nice too - small and cozy. There's an open kitchen which is fun to watch. Definitely recommend!

The food here was amazing and delightful. Our waitress gave fantastic suggestion and we followed her lead. Be prepared for robust flavors that you don't always think will go well together, they'll surprise you. Everything about this restaurant was spectacular.

First time here and we tried their 6 course tasting menu on Valentine's Day. Great portion and execution on most of them. I love the salmon dish with citrus dressing, very refreshing and flavourful. Duck breast was moist and skin was super crispy, sign of kitchen actually rendered the fat well! This dish is on their main menu too. Our server was attentive and polite. The only small thing we didnt know is that the tables are very close to each other. This means that most likely your neighbors will get all your jokes. Other than that, I must say I am a big eater but I left very well fed.

Honestly this was the best lunch I have had in years. We made reservations for 1ish on a Tuesday but it was only 1/2 full so no fear if no reservations are in hand for at least the early week lunchtime. Close to Cheesecake Etc, the location is convenient and the interior is light and welcoming. An open kitchen lets you see the chefs in action, and the waiter was friendly and unobtrusively attentive. Ordered the 3 course set menu which lets you choose 1 from each of the selection of 3 small (appetizers), 3 large (entrées) and 2 desserts. My wife had the roasted squash and burdock to start, followed by the monkfish and for dessert the apple crisp. She has a small appetite so this was quite filling, I had to volunteer to help with the appie and the dessert, life is tough sometimes.. My order was the carrot soup that came with a delicious rustic sourdough bread and butter, the monkfish and the apple crisp. Monkfish was nicely proportioned and served with some roasted potatoes. Seasoning was spot on, could not have done better myself! At $40/person the set menu is on the pricy side for lunch but it was well worth the price and made for a great lunch date. We were so full we could only have a light supper.

Fresh, flavourful food served in a cozy restaurant space. The menu rotates frequently but you can check online before you go if you're picky. Ingredients are all top quality. We split the smoked Berkshire-Tamworth ham, and pulled pork meals. The house-fermented mustard was unreal. Sprouted lentils: delicious and not something I could easily reproduce at home. Oh and both meats were tender, not overcooked, seasoned and garnished very well. The space is cozy and deceivingly large, particularly with the patio open. There isn't a ton of space between the tables, so don't expect much privacy. Other guests were friendly though :) Service was warm and friendly. I was seated before my friend arrived, and they offered me a blanket for the patio and took my drink order. Prices were reasonable for the amount and quality of food. If you're a big eater, you'll probably need an appetizer or bread as well. Overall, fantastic brunch spot!

Came here for happy hour. They have happy hour from 3:30 to 5pm on Fridays and Saturdays. We had the bottled daily cocktail which was delicious. It had calamansi and grapefruit soda. Would definitely recommend it if you want something light and refreshing. For snacks we had the blistered padrons and cauliflower. The blistered padrons went really well with the horseradish aoili. They were very smokey and meaty. Strangely addicting. The crunch of the almonds paired really well with everything and balanced out the bitterness of the padrons. The roasted cauliflower with the walnut muhammara was equally as delicious. They cooked the cauliflower so that it made it somewhat meaty and gave it some bite. Both snacks were great and paired well with the drinks. The service was also great. We sat for around 1.5 hours and weren't rushed out or anything as the dinner reservations started to come in. Would definitely recommend them for food and drinks. The place isn't very big so make reservations or come early

Been here a couple of times now. The menu always changes so it will be different when you go. They create their menu for the day or the whole weekend ( brunch ), depending on the ingredients they get. I had the mushrooms on brioche, poached eggs and salad. It was light, flavourful and well balanced. Just perfect after a cardio class. They don't put a lot of sauces so you can really taste the food/ingredients. If you like to add sauces, then you may not like this place. Also the portions are okay size, they focus more on the food, than size of their dishes. If you want to get stuffed, then this place isn't for you. If you want to have great food, then come and enjoy. They have a small patio to enjoy the sun.

Some hits and misses here tonight! My friend and I started out with the bread and a kohlrabi dish - picture ravioli made of thinly sliced kohlrabi, with some sort of cream cheese inside. (Sounds weird right? It was.) My main though was excellent - duck confit with beets, farro, fig, and arugula. Loved that the richness of the duck was balanced out with some more summery ingredients; they all worked together fabulously. The service was not amazing. Throughout the evening we had two servers, which in itself was a little confusing, and neither of them were super warm or friendly which was a little disappointing. The restaurant is lovely and cozy with a nice atmosphere. Overall a nice evening out with my friend but a few things could have been a little better.

I was hoping that The Farmer's Apprentice would be the highlight during my Week in Vancouver as it was recommended by a local friend and several food bloggers, but I was just so disappointed. It might went down in my "travel to eat" memoir as One of the Top 10 worst set menu meals I ever had. Booking via Bookenda was easy and we got an instant confirmation. I already knew there are only set menu options with "omnivore" $55 and "herbivore" $50. Since there were 2 of us, we ended up ordering both to share. All I had to say that the chef worked too hard trying to bring different flavours and elements together without any balance in taste. I really appreciate how local and seasonal ingredients are used to create each dish. But the bottom line, the food has to taste good. I think the portion was fine as a taster menu as too much mediocre food just means too much food. During the meal, we just kept asking ourselves why? why we paying for these? why we ended up eating here? Did the chef taste the food? Maybe we just not have the sophistication to understand? The only thing we enjoyed was our dessert.... Beewax Ice Cream, Mutsu Apple, Milk was just so clean tasting and refreshing! Service was attentive and I love the small cozy vibe here. I just wish the food taste better.

I read some reviews were pretty good and foods were great, however, my experience was totally nay! I tried to find out the menu on the website, however, it didn't seem like update after July. In addition, the menu items are so limited. I still like to check it out. We went there for brunch on Sun and our disappointment started right we arrived. The waitress told us around 20 mins wait and eventually we waited for 50 mins! Our coffee was disgusting! Any gas station coffee would be better than them! I had steak n eggs, the steak was cold and chewy. My hubby got pulled pork with poached eggs which shoddy! Pork benny so dry and tasteless! They indicated local farm support and care of quality of food on website, however, I didn't see it on our food. Probably won't coming back again!

If you have an appetite, avoid this place. I like the food here, but the portions are so small that I go away hungry.

Dwenjang jjigae had an interesting twist. It was lighter and more radish-forward than the traditional version, which I didn't mind, but it felt a bit unusual to call it dwenjang jjigae. It came with mushrooms, radish, tofu, and thin slices of beef. Overall, it was light and very enjoyable. Soondae was different from the typical version I'm used to. Here, it's made with an innards casing and the filling was also different, like meaty with less noodles. It had a strong flavor and aroma that I didn't prefer but the texture was soft, not chewy, and it paired nicely with kimchi and radish. It was fine to try but I probably wouldn't order it again. We ordered a small, and couldn't finish. Side dishes were limited to three varieties (fish cake, kimchi, bean sprouts) and served in small portions. With the richness of the bossam and strong taste of the soondae, we needed more kimchi and pickled radish but it was hard to get our server's attention, likely because she was busy attending to all the tables. We enjoyed the warm ambiance, and it seemed like many diners were enjoying the army stew. We'll be back to try more items and for the bossam.
