This is such an interesting place. I was intrigued by the walk in cooler of pick your own adventure beers, but had also seen pictures of the decor and knew this is a place I needed to see with my own eyes. Highly recommend popping in (at least once) if you are in the area. If you go the choose your own adventure beer route, you pay, they open the beer for you and then you can wander around. It's a fun place, I would go back. I'm not even a beer drinker anymore - but they have wine and selters too.

Cozy place to grab a beer or glass of wine in Carolina Beach. No food but a lot of places to sit and relax inside and outside. The patrons were friendly and inviting, wanting us to have a good experience. Within walking distance of the boardwalk and various restaurants and shops.

What a unique little dive! One of my favorite spots in Carolina Beach. Unlike anywhere else.

Walked in and was immediately greeted with friendly staff and patrons. The walk in cooler is a unique experience and they have an incredible variety of local, domestic, and foreign beer. Despite the cold weather, we sat outside in the fenced in patio where they had a fire going. Definitely worth the stop.

The Fat Pelican is a place we didn't even know about when we were in Wilmington. No one said anything about it other than we "should check it out." I'm so glad we did. It's kind of a hole in the wall-type bar and if you're just inside it feels a little underwhelming. Once you go into the beer fridge/freezer things amp up and once you step outside it all starts to make sense. A TON of alcohol selections in the fridge/freezer and there is a ton of space outside. Drinks were cheap AF considering how awesome the place was. 5/5 will definitely be going again without a doubt.

This is a true 'dive bar' where you walk into the beer cooler and choose your beers. They have an excellent selection of local beers and domestic beers. 16 oz PBRs for $2.50. Reminds me a little of The Salty Dog in Homer, AK. Memorabilia hanging everywhere, pictures of patrons, signatures of patrons...there's a lot to look at! Highly recommend a visit to this local dive bar!

This bar is one of the coolest and eccentric dive bars I've ever been to! They only serve beer and wine and have a beer cooler with a large selection of various beers including N/A. The bartenders were very friendly and fun. It's a must stop if you're vacationing in CB.

Such a cute dive. Smaller inside but a huge beer fridge to choose from. Lots of local selections and the outside back area is the best part. While narrow, there's a lot of seating and standing space. I went during the hurricane and spoke with the ladies who ran the place for a little- super sweet and hospitable

Y'all- this place is cool! I love that you can walk in and see all the drink options. You pick what you like and pay at the register. Everyone was so friendly, even though this is definitely a hot spot with locals. They have lots of options for seating and indoor arcade and board games as well. This is definitely a lil hole in the wall type joint but we loved it!

The second visit, however, came with a greeting I've never heard in my fifty‑plus years: "You've been out all day. I can't serve you because I'll be liable if you're over served." I've bartended before. I understand the responsibility. But I was never asked a single question about what I'd actually been doing. For clarity: we had lunch at Michael's Seafood before our first visit. I had one non‑alcoholic seltzer at Island Beverage, and my partner had a four‑flight sampler. After that, we went thrifting and shopping at Goodwill, Lowe's Foods, and Dollar Tree. No drinking. No bar‑hopping. Nothing even close. On our second visit, Geneva gave us water and let us charge a phone -- and I do appreciate that. But being told "you've been out all day" instead of "welcome back" was unnecessary, inaccurate, and frankly insulting. It was an assumption presented as fact, and it was embarrassing. What made it even more absurd was watching Geneva continue to serve patrons who were clearly intoxicated while I sat there with a glass of water. So here's the takeaway: Don't go in twice in one day. Apparently that alone is enough to get treated like you've been drinking all over town. After this experience, I won't be going in on any day. I hope the staff can handle situations like this with actual communication instead of jumping straight to conclusions.

They had a more than ample selection of local brews on tap, and all that we sampled were delish. They had a huge selection of wine and even served wine by the glass. There were a ton of games to play while you sip, which will be on our agenda next time. The bartender couldn't have been more friendly and welcoming to 2 non-locals! Next time we are bringing the rest of the crew!
