Booked a 5 hour Salmon charter for 5 people. The captain was friendly but didn't seem experienced in catching fish. We caught nothing! The heater was broken in the cabin, so we spent 5 hours cold and wet and didn't catch any fish to bring home. Miserable experience and waste of money. Definitely would not recommend. Next time we'll book a river charter in the Kenai or a halibut charter. read more

We had an amazing day 7/26 thanks to Capt Kobe...who is the Kobe Bryan of fishing in Seward! Our morning started a little rough when there was a mix up on our "boarding ticket" which was a receipt with a stamp on it. The stamp instructed us to one boat and it was challenged by that capt...so we were basically turned away. Kobe made a call and clarified that someone must have stamped our receipt incorrectly. Fine, we will head out with this friendly chap. My brother was awfully seasick 95% of the time spent on the water...about 8.5 hrs. Kobe was determined to make it a great experience for everyone. Our first stop we pulled so many rock fish, we had to return some bcuz we met our limit. Second stop was a goldmine. Im so glad Capt Kobe was determined to find halibut. We found our limit! When we came in we had a massive haul, thx to Kobe. He was friendly, professional, and fun to get to know. We wish him and his family the very best!! Fished aboard the sportfisher Servent out of the Fish House in Seward Alaska Tues. 08-20-24. Two of us were on a scouting trip for our Las Vegas, NV. fishing club. I have been on almost 1k tuna, trout, striper, rockfish and salmon trips. This particular Seward Alaska trip was the BEST fishing day of my life!! Capt. Tom and mates Connor & Ronnie represented the entire State of Alaska as Ambassadors! Never seen such a polite, energetic and always ready atmosphere on a sportfisher. Somehow the crew even memorized our names! What I've never heard before but made me proud was when Capt. Tom gave his safety briefing. Said we're not gonna stop fishing from beginning to end but if another boat is in distress or we hear a MayDay we're gonna stop fishing and go help because they would do the same for us! That's True Alaska right there! Each and every stop Capt. Tom made produced fish! The Servant was exceptionally clean, plenty of indoor or outdoor seating. No rain on my trip but do recommend waterproof pants if you're going to sit outside. You're not going to believe it but all Halibut reels are the Gold Penn Internationals! Herring was bait and deckhands were always at the ready! Hooked up on a 112lber! Most importantly, Bring and keep a good vibrant exciting fishing attitude!! Can't say that enough. You're in Alaska, enjoy the ride, look to your right, that's the Kenai Fjords Glacier-Exit Glacier! Tip- BEFORE the boat stops at the 1st location, maybe 2hrs 30min go stand next to the fishing pole at the back corner of the boat either one, mine was the same side you board on. If you're too late 3rd and 4th best are the rear corners. Bait is always dropped back here. 2nd Halibut tip- when you drop and crank up a few let it sit and listen to your Capt and deck hands. Let the Halibut eat. When you begin to wind, be patient and not too fast. While waiting for fish to bite, If the line goes away from the boat, reel in a bit to get line to go straight up and down then drop and crank up a bit. Keep doing that to keep your bait in the chum line! Afterwards fish cleaning/fillet included! Be sure to tip your crew as I believe The Fish House keeps most of the fees. Tips: What we experienced booking Halibut & Rockfish combo. Call the Fish House directly to book and save $50 online fees(Thanks Adam!) Make your own P&B sammiches. Bring your own Panty Peeler beer! Cannot buy liquor in Alaska till 8 or 10am so buy night before. At the Fish House purchase a few #8 weighted treble hooks to legally snag fish after your trip! Go just down the street at the RV campground creek inlet. Bring your own 2piece spinner w/ 30-40lb test. Extra tips- We brought our own tape and scissors. Stayed at KRV lodge and vacuum sealed froze our own fish. Dropped off fish at Soldotna fish processor to freeze solid. Fred Meyer fish boxes $30. Just returned from our full day charter on the Perseverance with Captain Jake and deck hands Scott & Aidan, what great time had by all. We tagged out with our halibut and rockfish. Also, we were able to catch salmon and cod. Captain Jake did a great job of getting us on fish and we stayed a little later to ensure everyone on board caught something. Fish were filetted by the deckhands on the way back to the harbor, they were very through and efficient with processing 15 people's catch. Bad captain and service. They give you misinformation after catching the fish. we where 8 people. all of us were disappointed.

Let me begin this with context. I booked three fishing charters with two companies last week with the Fish House being my third trip. There was good weather all three days. I don't think the gentleman that took our group out was setup for success. There were no deck hands, which can always slow things down, and he "seemed" kind of new to halibut fishing. We were supposed to be on a larger boat with more folks out, but due to low booking, we were shifted to another setup. There was a large halibut lost as it was at the boats edge, and I believe it was due to the hook size being to small. It was a frustrating day. The other two days with a different company worked out very well, and I checked in with them when we returned from our trip with the Fish House, and they did quite well. read more

The whole experience was awesome from the initial call they were super helpful. Carla and Misty were at the counter to help when I came in to ask questions. The Fish House was referred to us by the Seward military resort and offered a military rate. Now the fishing! I was on the Servant with captain Tom and deck hands Ronnie & Jordan. The captain immediately made you feel safe with the brief then he put us on fish. The halibut hunting was awesome. I got my over 32 and everyone else did as well. Jordan and Ronnie were out there with everything we needed. The Captain worked around the boat making sure everyone was good and hooking fish. The best part was at the end there were two of us that needed an under 32 so we pulled and went to another spot to catch the last two fish. Everyone limited out! Ronnie and Jordan fileted the fish and bag it after photos of course. It was such a great trip that I'm back in the boat right now going for a second round! read more

Cpt Jeremy is very professional and down to earth and an outstanding captain, he is confident in his abilities as a captain, taking care of his clients, and making sure everyone goes home with as much fish as the regulations allow. he won't let you go home empty handed or upset at all whatsoever. his hospitality is unmatched and radiates confidence through many years of experience. the first hole we hit we all landed multiple hogs within minutes --even landing doubles at the same time and making it look effortless as he doesn't miss bringing your fish up into the boat and rigging you up in record time all while making sure all the other fishermen and women are taken care of. I will never use another captain again after going out with Cpt Jeremy Strickland. he's full service and hospitality and his number one priority is making sure everyone goes home with a cooler packed full of all the fish you desire to catch. he will not let you down! I spent a lot if time researching the different fishing charters out of Seward before booking our Halibut trip with The Fish House. My son and I wanted to go out in a smaller group so we were booked for the Harvester (Beautiful Osprey). When we boarded the boat, we were greeted by Captain Eric. Eric was a one-man show without a deckhand and worked his butt off to put us on the fish, keep the water chummed with a bait trail and kept refreshing our baits. He was absolutely fantastic and made sure we all had a great time! I will definitely book again with Captain Eric as soon as next month when the Halibut bite increases. Eric put us on 2 Halibut (75lb and 40lb) along with some big rock cod. The Fish House staff were so friendly to book with and kept us informed of weather problems and what to expect on the charter! Definitely reccomend this charter company as well as Captian Eric! read more

Took a full day Halibut charter from the Fish House and even with a semi rainy day and cold weather we had an absolute blast. Captain and the deckhand were friendly helpful and went out of their way to make sure my wife and I who have never done any fishing at all were comfortable. Make sure you wear layers and bring rain gear. Also make sure you have some kind of waterproof shoes. I want to really highlight how hard the crew worked to make sure everyone came back with something. We ended up pulling in an 80lb halibut and a 40lber, almost instantly, but some of the boat were running dry up until almost the end of day. Both the captain and deckhand were hustling between poles doing everything they could to get people on the fish and even stayed out 30 mins past the allotted time to make sure everyone caught something. Highly recommend if you're coming to Seward to do some fishing. read more

Eric continually put us on fish, gave great instruction, allowed us to use our own angling knowledge, kept our hooks baited, did a wonderful job filleting fish, and explained Alaskan wildlife well. 10/10 would recommend. I completed the online interest form, only to receive an email saying "Have you called? You should call." Oh so helpful. Most other places, you'll get a "Welcome! We have room on the date you asked for. Here's the cost. See you then!" And then they call you to get your credit card deets. Or something similar. But not the case with The Fish House. You gotta just call. So skip the completely pointless contact / book / interest form on the website. Once I did call, it was an easy and smooth process. They got me booked when I wanted, which was somewhat last minute. And charged for just half the cost. I paid the other half upon arrival. When I arrived, there was no one at the booth. Once the staffer arrived, I gave them my name, they gave me details on where the boat was. I paid the other half. And then I filled out the form to get my fishing license. A relatively easy and painless process. Upon arriving at the boat, there was more waiting around and little communication. No presenting of boarding passes or confirming of I was indeed supposed to be on that boat. Everyone standing around just climbed on. It seemed like too many people for the boat. Definitely not enough sitting room. And I noticed a sign on the boat indicating "Aurora Charters". So I guess The Fish House is just a booking agency and not a charter company? Or they book people on other charters when their charters are full? No clue. But whatever, besides the website form response, it was a fine experience dealing with The Fish House. We stopped at the Fish House to purchase fishing licenses for our fishing trip the next day. They were fairly busy at the registers with about eight of us seeking to buy licenses and another 3 or 4 making other purchases. They were really sloooow and the assistant manager was kind of rude. Also, note that they do not allow anyone to carry bags/backpacks past the entranceway. They stock a lot of fishing gear (rods, reels, lures, knives, tackle boxes, etc.), other outdoor gear, supplies and the standard Alaskan souvenirs. We went out for a full-day charter. Liz, in the office, told our group that we would be unable to fish for rock fish and halibut unless we paid a "combo" fee of $360 (for the 6 of us). Grudgingly, we agreed, only to realize once we were out that we had hit our halibut quota within the first two hours and our captain would have taken us for rock fishing without charging us. Very disingenuous in the office. No extras are provided or available -- not even water on the boat. At the end of your charter, you are handed a bag of filets and told where the nearest processing plant is. While our captain was a ok guy who warmed up some in the afternoon, he clearly did not want to be out fishing. Had no patience to nor to let us take a picture under the Seward sign with our fish-- apparently he must filet on the boat before coming in. Equally bad was the attitude of those in the office-- any question was treated as though they were doing us a favor and not that we had paid $2000 for the charter. As others have noted, staff here is rude (perhaps they are nicer to residents). In regards to parking, there are two Seward lots, both at $10 per day. Caught a decent amount of fish-- about 80 pounds filet between the 6 of us. read more

Other boats were bringing in loads of fish. The Alaskan Summer chartered by this company had a tiny half a wheel barrel for 6 people. Very disappointing. Clearly other guides knew where to go. The entire morning didn't catch anything. Expected salmon fishing as well and barely even tried. Asked about other companies because this one was a bust for a 400 dollar outing. The crew was nice but clearly not as experienced. Will be back b it not with this company and believe they should offer a partial refund. Went on a halibut fishing charter with this company. It was kind of a spontaneous decision to go, so we weren't totally prepared. They got us all set up the night before and made sure we knew exactly what to expect and were prepared for the trip the next day. When we showed up for the trip, the captain and crew were extremely professional and a whole lot of fun! On the ride out to the fishing spot, they took the time to learn everyone's names, ask about where we were all from, and made sure we were all completely comfortable. When the fishing started, they made sure that everyone knew how to set up their rig, alert the crew to possible bites/fish on, and the general rules for the boat. It could not have gone more smoothly! There were 12 people on this particular trip, and all but a couple limited out on halibut AND rockfish. When the fishing was all done, the crew cleaned and filleted the fish on the trip back. We were all extremely impressed at the way that they were able to get so much done in such a short amount of time, all while still making it seem like they were having fun and making us feel very welcome. Once the fish were cleaned and filleted, they had great recommendations on how to get everything ready for the freezer without breaking the bank. All said and done, I would absolutely recommend going on a halibut fishing charter with the fish house. Specifically, I would recommend asking for Captain Jimmy by name. He was obviously very knowledgeable and a blast to fish with. His crew, Eric and Jordan, were awesome as well and really made us feel like part of their crew. I had expectations that I would feel like a little bit of an outsider on this trip, but they really made an effort to make us feel like it was our boat as much as it was theirs. We booked 3 days of exclusive charters here after a last minute cancellation by the captain of another charter. The Fish House staff helped book our charters to make sure we were getting the same experience as the cancelled charter. Our captain, Eric, is the best captain and fishing guide I've ever had. His knowledge, patience, encouragement, generosity, hustle, and humor made each day amazing. Fishing is not predictable, but Eric made sure we were happy and having fun every minute. We had a great time on the servant going half-day salmon fishing at the end of the season. The captain and Boudreaux couldn't have been more professional. They both told us what to expect and how to conduct ourselves which was appreciated for our first salmon fishing experience ever. Our daughters, who weren't sure about the idea of fishing had an exceptional experience and we were so grateful that their first experience with fishing was so positive. Our group of eight had a terrific time going out, experiencing the nature around us (we had sea lions pointed out to us and saw puffins) on top of the fishing. Definitely a 5 * experience. Capt Skeeter was incredible! Southern accent, Southern sensibilities. He was knowledgable, friendly and extremely efficient. Skeeter taught the beginners how to fish with several different techniques, depending on the location, the species and the bait. The Fish House booking staff (also friendly and informative) warned us this was end-of-season fishing and they couldn't guarantee a good catch. However, we all pretty much came away with halibut and salmon limits. Skeeter worked his butt off to make the day an enjoyable success. He constantly was washing down the deck after catches - no slippery floors on his watch. At the end he lugged our catch to the dock (he refused our offers to help) and filleted it. The boats the Fish House run are reasonably modern and very clean (unlike a lot of the wrecks run out of SF Bay). Suggestion - if you get a capt like Skeeter, tip him well! read more

We were lucky enough to go out on a full-day halibut fishing excursion on the Servant (booked through the Fish House) out of the Seward harbor on May 24th, 2015. From Captain Tom to his two deckhands, Frank and Boudreaux, the experience my boyfriend and I had was flawless and incredibly memorable. The boat was full of a few experienced fishermen/women and some first timers like me, but the crew treated us all with respect and showed us the basics of fishing. We were blessed with calm seas and perfect weather and an awesome captain that knew the "hot spots" to catch the HUGE halibut and rockfish! I was especially impressed with the crew's efficiency and swiftness in helping (if we needed it) us to reel in our catch, taking it off the hook and immediately setting up more bait so we could continue fishing. I was equally impressed with Frank and Boudreaux's ability to clean and filet an incredible amount of fish WHILE the boat was swiftly moving back to shore. It was an awesome feat!!! I would wholly recommend this charter and this crew to anyone. It was an experience I will never forget!! read more

Less than 24 hours old Merchandise breaks from mfg defect. They don't care. Spent over $150 bucks and when I came back and politely asked for some help, they said "sorry wont help you" no refunds. Me and my family went out on the Servant yesterday. The captain and the deckhand were very abrupt and brief with their overall instructions. Their attitude, as far as catching any fishes was concerned, was very pessimistic. Not friendly before or during the entire trip. I asked the deckhand for assistant with helping me locate the sea bottom and he snapped 'NO.' He told me in a mean tone that I had been doing this 'all day and I should have had it figured out by now.' This was three hours into the trip. This was my first time doing this. He told me this in the presence of my family and five more members on the boat. Nothing will get me back on this boat again. Planning a Charter for Halibut/Salmon? I think NOT, beware of the Fish House! The store was not opened at 6am which was the time we were told to be there. They were 40 minutes late to the dock, it was cold and rainy; we were told that the captain was probably out getting fuel and that we just needed to wait there. The captain was rude and was unpleasant, he was in a bad mood the whole day. They have defective and old equipment, when we pullled up the biggest fish of the trip the leader broke before we could pull it into the boat. The captain was rushing us to fish and was upset anytime we wanted to throw the smaller ones back. We were told that when we paid for a full day charter we would fish for other fish on the way back (before we paid for the trip). That was not the case and we didn't find out until the captain bled our last halibut, his words were, "We aren't fishing for anything else, we're heading back to the dock." We should have known that the Fish House was a poor choice bc looking back, they only had two couples, ourselves and an older couple from out of state, that signed up for the charter for that day. That speaks volumes ppl. Before going to Seward, make sure you have EVERYTHING you need, do not shop at the Fish House, they are all so rude and unhappy. In my two trips to the Seward area I have found the Fish House a great place to shop. The attendants are always courteous and their goods are first rate. I have bought several Fish House logo jackets and I wear them proudly. Only wish they had an online presence for their jackets as I would love to buy another one.
