    Our tour group dinner table

The bell guys were super friendly! They left an AMAZINGLY delicious platter with brownies and macaroons in our room for our wedding anniversary, which was greatly appreciated. The room was very nicely decorated and spacious. The only negatives were there was no extra TP so we had to call and ask and walls are thin so you could hear everything in the next room (have adjoining doors). The room had a fridge with free water and drinks/alcohol (for a charge), had heat & AC, turndown service with chocolates, washcloths, lots of lighting, and the bed was very comfortable, Brian in the bar was very nice! The entire hotel is 5 star & nice!! I loved the wooden room keys and the turndown mini chocolates! The Scotch egg & brownie we had at dinner was amazing.

I'm going to keep this review short and to the point. Is the Hotel Beautiful?, Yes. Are the rooms spacious and clean?, Yes. Are there staff members that stood out always going over and above?, Yes, specifically Brian who helped bandage up a broken toe my last night there. Now here is the awful side of this Hotel. Cian, the Hotels General Manager has absolutely no people skills. My two interactions with him were blunt and rude. Rude enough to make me certainly never go back. I have 70 hotel night booked between January and March. Certainly won't be staying here.

For my 350th Yelp, I have decided to review this lovely hotel. The Fitzwilliam... It is decorated in classic, modern elegance. A well run, beautiful property. We had a king room with a good view of Great Victoria street. We felt like we had the best seat in the house. Coming into this room, there is low background music playing on the stereo. You can cozy up and settle in quickly. I was impressed with the little touches. Having said that, this property is a perfect example of form over function. There are unsightly wires hanging out underneath the desk, and phone charging ports on one side of the bed [only]. The refrigerator is locked and you cannot even get into it without calling the front desk, so forget about keeping your drinks cold. We have to discuss these beds. The mattresses are a bit firm for my taste. Also the beds have very sharp, dangerous edges. My husband hurt his toe very badly. It was, bloody, then swollen black and blue. He had to limp around Belfast. They have a nice turn down service, with handmade chocolates. They have a full bathroom with a soaking tub, complete with showers, candles and a lovely suite of toiletries for the guests. I love the way all of the surfaces are mirrored. A word now about the staff. While they aren't rude, they certainly are not nice. Very cold and perfunctory. Only the ones who would get tips would show even a modicum of personality or warmth. The staff provided misinformation on two separate occasions, and no one apologized for it when we brought it to their attention. If they were to get better staff this could be a five star property! While it had its advantages and disadvantages , I probably would not stay there again.

    Our room

My husband and I spent two nights at this hotel as part of a tour. Our room was spacious. Each side of the bed had an independently operated reading light and a nice-sized bedside nightstand. The room had an upholstered desk chair and a long sofa. The decor was modern. The air conditioning definitely worked and chilled down our room quickly. We were particularly impressed with the excellent dinner we had in the hotel dining room. Other members of our group also praised the dinners they had at the hotel. The service was top notch. Staff made reservations for members of our group wanting to eat or drink in Belfast restaurants or bars. (For our second dinner in town the hotel got us a reservation at the Crown bar/restaurant across the street.) The hotel got our laundry done in a timely manner. The hotel repairman quickly fixed the room safe that a previous occupant had left in a locked position. If we return to Belfast, we would be happy to stay at this hot

    Executive king room.

The Fitzwilliam is pretty nice. There aren't a ton of hotel choices in Belfast (compared with other European cities at least) and this isn't a bad choice. The location is great and very close to everything in central Belfast. The room was spacious and the bathroom was huge. Staff was all friendly and accommodating. Phillip the concierge was especially helpful during our stay. They have turndown service at night. Now, it's not a flawless experience, especially for a hotel trying to compete in the luxury category. Aside from the lobby, the hotel feels dark and cold to me. The hallways are dark. Our guest room was dark. We had a corner room that only has a single window in the corner, but the view is obstructed by a huge heavy chair, that the room would be so much better without. Our TV also didn't work right. Either the signal was so weak that it just showed a "weak signal" error or the channel was pixelated and unwatchable. We only stayed for 2 nights and didn't watch much TV, otherwise I would have asked for someone to come fix it. But still, a working TV is pretty basic stuff. Overall, nice hotel with some room for improvement.

I'd say it's maybe got more of a three-star-hotel-with-some-makeup-on than a four star but it's still a lovely hotel. The staff made it for me - super accommodating and friendly. Makes a big difference when the receptionist remembers your name and room when you come down after checking in. Impressive too. The room was a good size and the bed was comfy. I found the black bathroom a bit overpowering, and I was on the floor with all the accessible bathrooms so it was all decked out in disabled gear which I guess I'd prefer not to have if possible. It's good value and a great location though, so I could still see myself staying here again.

Very good food and nice waiters, just understaffed. We enjoyed the cider here, I had a panini and calamari, salmon and chicken kabobs and they were fantastic.

I had some last minute special requests and they were right there for me. The clerk named Ashleigh even stayed after her shift to make sure it was carried out. Thanks Fitz Outstanding food and absolute incredible services offered.

This is probably one of the most central hotel's you could stay at in Belfast as it is situated right next door to the Grand Opera House. It has a wide range of rooms available for guests ranging from executive rooms right through to a Penthouse. Being a student, my knowledge of Penthouses is limited, to say the least, but this Penthouse boasts computer controlled lighting, your own bar, 2 bedrooms and even your own cinema. Furthermore you even get a private butler to be at your beck and call... a bit like my mother then! However to my girlfriend's disappointment we did not stay in the Penthouse but rather the Executive Room where price was about £105 a night. To top of the whole experience the restaurant is served by a Michelin Star Chef and although a bit pricey, the meal was fabulous. This Hotel is excellent and well worth a visit to mark a special occasion.

But it was such a small room the beds were too close together and we had to walk sideways in between the beds. There was no dresser so we had to live out of a suitcase on the floor for a week. The room overall appeared clean except for the phone cord had a thick layer of dust in between the loops. (You could clearly see it.) The bathroom. The walk in shower was nice with a rain shower and separate handheld. The water temperature was super hot. Way too hot and room would fog up. Because the shower is open to the door, the door had major water damage and was swollen and couldn't be closed all the way. The door jam was also had water damage. Aesthetically unappealing. The restaurant was very nice and the food was good. The staff were super nice about food orders. Enjoyed the meals. Some of the staff (front desk, restaurant and housekeeping) were very nice and others not as much. But overall the nice staff outweighed the not as nice staff. Location is close to City Hall and Donegall Square which is what I wanted. And it was centrally located within walking distance to a lot in the area.

It was SOOOOO nice and massive and beautiful. Only complaint is the room was dark AF with terrible lighting but it added to the medieval vibe I guess. Mal-administration perhaps? It came over as amateur but at £175 for an ok room for a night, amateur, delay and ineptitude have no place at this price. When we got to the room it was also irritating that the electronic access card didn't work. The dimly lit room was cosy warm with a comfy bed. In - room tea/coffee/kettle and a well stocked fridge were tucked into the wardrobe. Our room had one of the smallest showers I've ever been in, at about an ungenerous two feet wide. Having overcome check - in and delayed room entry malfunctions we headed down to a cramped bar area for wedding related refreshments. The coffee was lukewarm and watery. The tea was also poor tasting as the water wasn't hot enough. Tea leaves need fresh water just off the boil to maximise flavours. The tea and coffee were good quality but quality alone sometimes isn't enough. If you don't do it right then quality is wasted as was the case here. Not upscale more amateurism or laziness or perhaps the daft excuse: health & safety? The amuse-bouche were plentiful and served with smiles. They ranged in quality with my preferences in order being duck rillettes 10/10, salmon toast 9/10, goat cheese tartlet 5/10 as the pastry wasn't made with butter and they were dry through overcooking (or heating & reheating) and breadcrumbed mini fishcakes 3/10 made with cheap, pre frozen, pink salmon, little or no butter, no fresh herbs and an overpowering fishy taste. It was poor that the dip with the fishy fishcake was from a jar of mayonnaise: a cheap shortcut I didn't expect from a hotel positioning itself as upscale so yet evidence of style over substance. When I asked the server what fish was in the 'cake' she didn't know. It was also plain from her "I don't know' that she didn't much care either: maybe amateurism - you gotta walk the talk folks but if the server is on minimum wages I couldn't be critical of her malcontent malfunction. The wedding meal itself was pretty good for the most part, but not great. I had St Maure goat cheese with various salad leaves, sliced blood orange & pistachios to begin. My beef brisket main was very good and 7/10. It had great flavour served with a lightly fried perfect egg 10/10. I finished with what was alleged to be an artisan cheese plate. This was quite poor quality so 2/10. Maybe a Malfunction. Rather than artisan I got industrially made, mostly low grade cheeses, and none had any powerful cheese flavour. The worst thing of all about this was that this non-artisan cheese plate was served warm from the kitchen. So the hard cheeses sweated and the pasteurised Brie style cheese, that had already begun to sag when it reached the table, sank within a few moments into an unpleasant rind-topped oily cheese puddle. Later in the evening we were treated to delicious mini slider burgers that were ace 10/10 and barbecue style spicy chicken wings 6/10. I didn't try the bacon mini muffins or the chips. All cocktail drinks were exorbitantly priced. The dining room had about 80 wedding guests and was overfilled at that, to a point that was uncomfortable. There's another irritation to note. The in-room shower gel & shampoo tubes are labelled the best that you can steal. We've already paid for them so if we decide to take them and throw them in the bin that's our business and it certainly isn't theft. We could discuss daylight robbery style theft with Malmaison. So is it a wedding venue; certainly not for more than 50 in our view. Would we return here; well maybe but not anytime soon as we can stay for 3 nights half board in May in Malaga for less than £175. Our hotel there is right by the Mediterranean. I observed a fellow guest at check-in as we checked out. She was trying to pay for something. She tendered a paper £10 Bank of England note. She was told it could not be accepted. An upscale place would have been discreet rather than broadcast this non transaction for us to hear. More malfunction and maladministration. I imagine had she handed this £10 over as a tip it would have been a whole other story. Maybe he doesn't realise that customers make pay days. When a business in the service industry is charging £175 a night room only, £9 for a small glass of wine and upwards of £12 for badly mixed cocktails I expect every single aspect of customer delivery to be flawless. This consistently wasn't the case here.
