I came for the mimosas but the food was pretty good. We ordered a few things and the chicken was fire , the steak egg rolls were fire, the birria eggrolls were pretty dry so you will need the sauce but it's still pretty dry. The home fries includes sweet potato so beware. I did not know this when I ordered and wasn't exactly happy about it either. My friend ordered some kind of burrito that came with potatoes that ended up being sweet potatoes. I think they should warn people that their potatoes are of the sweet persuasion. Now to the good part, the mimosas bar was awesome! They give you a bracelet and they mark off when you go up to the bar to basically count your drinks. Our waiter, Matt was great. The restaurant was cool and chill and minus the sweet potato fiasco, it was a good time. I don't live in CT, but I know for next time. Had the potatoes been normal like golden or russet or something like that, this would have been a 5 star experience, hence the 4 stars.

Come here about once a month or so. Never have had a bad experience. The decor is cute with a monkey theme but not as overkill. The service has always been good. The food has always been well prepared, well cooked, well presented and enjoyed by all we dine with. Another thing I appreciate is that the owner is there. Greeting people as they come in and making rounds. He cares about his business and his customers and it shows. This night we had two orders of the aviator chicken, a burger and fries, a grilled chicken salad, and a carne asada salad. Cocktails are also always on point. There was live music and outdoor seating out back which was nice.

Went for happy hour or as they call it monkey hour and it was awesome! food was delish and came quick, drinks were great. Only thing is being seated at a high top near the bar it can feel crowded/cramped with folks at the bar, people walking back and forth etc. and it can get loud if there's loud music. But such a fun place and definitely will be coming back

I came here for brunch with some foodie friends and we had a great time. This was my first time coming to this establishment and the restaurant provided great vibes. During are brunch, many of my foodie friends ordered some food and I was able to decide what I wanted. I eat with my eyes and some of my foodie friends ordered the Chicken and Waffles and their famous Chicken Wings. Some of the people who ordered the Chicken and Waffles said the chicken was on the dry side and needed more seasoning. Also, I didn't like how the Waffles looked because they seemed like they were undercooked. So, I know I wasn't ordering that and I was able to try a wing from one of my foodie friends. The Chicken Wings were good but for me, I would like my chicken to be fried hard. I decided to go with the brunch burger that was on menu called the Top Burger. The Top Burger was okay. It wasn't out this world but it had good flavor and it was a decent sized burger. The customer service was great and staff were friendly, attentive, and helpful.

This was my first time here. The place is covered in monkey decorum which I absolutely love and if you have any monkey lovers in your life, bring them there. You can purchase monkeys at the door. The bathroom even has monkey themed wallpaper. Now to the food. The food was delicious. My daughter and I ordered a few of odds and ends. We ordered the Delta Donuts, Flying Monkey Wings 8ct Spicy Monkey flavored, Flying Monkey Wings 8ct BBQ, and two B-52 Burritos. We were so stuffed after eating the donuts and most of the wings that we took the burritos home. The burritos do reheat perfectly so they are good the next day. The BBQ flavor was your basic BBQ and the spicy monkey was an interesting flavor. I definitely liked it. The service there was really good. We were seated right away. Our waitress was funny and checked in on us periodically but didn't interrupt us if she noticed we were in depth chatting. We definitely recommend this place and I will be back to try the different flavors of wings and the other interesting items on the menu.

What a great place for brunch. While dining out with other Yelpers is always a great experience, this place definitely worth the visit. With its incredible food dishes and tasty cocktails, whether dining at the bar or with friends, you will definitely enjoy your experience. The server we had was super busy and was still on top of things with such a positive attitude. I love the cabin, rustic vibe and with it being winter in New England, it's a great to feel cozy in with a tasty cocktail and one of their very delicious items in the menu.

Recently went back after so many years to cela birthday . It was a Friday and it was packed. Going in circles trying to find to find parking and waiting for our table in which we had reservations for. They did have a live band on Friday which was cool but it's very busy in there so you might be able to hear some of it . Our server was wonderful..very good. Once we put in our order our food took almost an hour! Took long. We were so hungry! But everyone seem To love what they had ordered. My salad, carne asada was spicy for my taste. I think it was the pico de gallo sauce. If you don't like spicy just check about the sauce or have it on the side. Also very very few GF options. Overall it's a great place to celebrate but not a quiet ambiance. More of a chill and hang out and eat Not great for food allergies. But overall . My family had no left overs which was a good sign.

We had the best meal sitting outside in a beautiful night. Tatiana took great care of us and we all enjoyed our meal. The highlights were the bourbon honey salmon and scallop Cobb salad . They even let us bring g our own birthday cake with no plating charge . I can't forget to share the bourbon drink which everyone loved. It is not an inexpensive meal but when food service and ambiance are all perfect it was worth the price,

I stopped in for happy hour appetizers last evening. Luckily, Cathy, the best bartender on the planet, took great pains to keep me happy! The live band was absolutely phenomenal. Their music set got me moving on my barstool. I was totally dancing along! I tipped the band when I left. What a great night I had!

God we love this place. Wella carne fritas are excellent. Wanted a pistachio martini and the server was on point. Never a fail coming to this place. Owner is down to earth and humble!

This place looks amazing and the vibe and decor is nice. Not sure what was going on in the kitchen but the fact that a table of 4 had to wait an hour and a half for a meal is beyond belief. No apologies or explanations at all. The food on my plate arrived cold and the order was also taken incorrectly. Nothing was offered to meditate or correct the situation, and when brought up to the manager who I believe is named Joshua he seemed to have not cared at all and in a sarcastic unbothered tone gave a blank answer as well. MEDIOCRE SERVICE AND FOOD AT ITS WORST. BTW what server is told 2 extra eggs on the side and says okay, and brings you the two already included poached eggs on the side cold instead and soggy wet spinach that doused a muffin. LITERALLY THE MOST PRICEY WASTE OF TIME.

Ask the Community - The Flying Monkey Grill Bar

What has changed during COVID-19 time with their bottomless brunch on Sunday?

Do they take reservations for Sunday brunch?

I'm sorry, I do not know that answer.

Is this location closing or will the Berlin turnpike be a second location ? Thanks

It's a new location and it's on the Berlin turnpike! ☺️

    Is this place kid friendly?

Yes - I think so, more in the outside patio than in the bar, pending on your parental preferences and age of kid.

Don't let the outside of this place fool you because looks are definitely deceiving. We were cautious coming to this place due to the appearance of the outside, but once we were in it was so much fun. Agus, aka rawbartender, was Ah-mazing and truly made the night fun. He was truly such a vibe!! I ordered the SpongeBob, which was Goslings rum, pineapple spice, ginger, lime, angostura bitters. Especially with the show that was put on, my drink tasted even better. It was a Smokey, yet smooth and refreshing drink! We also got the Snow White, on the sweeter side made with Pear vodka, orgeat, pear juice, lemon juice, cinnamon. And of course, we can't forget our schooling in tequila and Mezcal from Agus. He was very informative of what he was serving and we tried a few different shots. He gave us the rundown of how you're actually supposed to taste tequila. And I have to say I've never had an experience like that before. I wish the party didn't stop and I will definitely be coming back specifically for Agus and of course the drinks!

The textured walls are gorgeous and give the space a style it was definitely missing before. As usual, the happy hour menu never disappoints. The Pomjito is a personal favorite.. refreshing, light, and not too sweet. We also got the oysters and mussels, both solid. The mussel sauce was unique compared to a typical tomato base, which we really appreciated. For my entrée, though, I was disappointed to see that the tuna salad I always order had completely changed. It used to be an arugula salad with Asian flavors and the tuna served on top. Now it It's a Niçoise salad, and the tuna is awkwardly placed on the side. Nothing about the tuna tasted like it did before. I'm usually a sucker for ahi tuna, but this was honestly one of the most disappointing ahi dishes I've ever had. It felt totally incohesive with the salad next to it. I really wish they didn't change the menu so frequently. Once I finally find an entrée I genuinely look forward to, it disappears. That said, we'll still be back for the great happy hour food and solid drinks. Now it's just a matter of finding a menu item I like... and hoping they keep it.

I chose The Laurel based on the great reviews, not knowing much more about this place. Upon arriving, the parking lot was packed. I also had a difficult time getting in when walking from the parking lot, which is behind the restaurant. The issue here (which is my only negative about the entire dining experience) is if I were with a person with disabilities (as I am at times) who doesn't walk fast and we walked to what we "thought" was the entrance, only to find a sign saying to use the front door, but no arrow as to where that is (and keep in mind, I don't know the area, this place, never been here before) and if it were raining - This would have been a horrible way to start the dinner. PLEASE post a sign on the door with an arrow showing which way to go. Also, the door says it's for disable folks, but it's locked. OK - My griping aside... Coming in, I was quickly greeted and seated. The staff here was GREAT! Very engaging and VERY helpful! The menu here is AMAZING! Good thing it's a joint that specializes in small plates and that I was part of a group of three, it gave us the ability to try a bunch of items; seven, in fact and that's not including dessert! The flavors from their vegetarian and vegan dishes were so darn good, you don't miss the meat! Everything was plated beautifully and perfectly! We also placed our entire order (not desserts) all at once and they brought them out as they were made, which worked perfectly with our timing too. They not only have a full bar here, they have a "craft cocktail" quality bar! Upon walking in, one of the first things I noticed was their yellow chartreuse! Of course, next to this was green. So, when I sat down I asked about it, and my server told me how they were able to get this and so I ordered a Last Word, which came out SPOT-ON PERFECT! When it came to the food, some favs of ours - Their Watermelon Crudo - This looked and had the texture of tuna - AMAZING!! The Vegan Empanadas had amazing flavor and texture! I also liked their Stuffed Peppers - The "Samosa Potatoes" in them really hit nicely as well as the sauce on top. Save room for dessert, they have some great options here! We couldn't decide, so the 3 of us ordered 4! We tried their crème Brûlée, their Unbirthday cake, Tres Leches Tiramisu, and their Brûléed Cornbread. The Unbirthday cake was nice - reminded me of what it looks like, Funfetti! But their Brûléed Cornbread was AWESOME! Loved the crispy edges of the cornbread and the entirety of flavors. It wasn't until mid-meal that we really had a talk with our server about the amazingness of the food, the artfulness of it, as well as the attention to detail and creativity of the menu and that's when we learned that the chef here recently won an award for best chef in Connecticut! Well, now it's obvious - Why the parking lot was packed and why everything was so very good! Highly recommend stopping in - but make reservations!

But it wasn't their fault, I didn't realize that there were olives (in some form or another) pretty much in every single dish I ordered and I don't love olives. As in, whatever I saw, say fish or duck with something I wanted, so I just ordered it without reading the fine details of what were in the dish. So that was my fault, I am sure they would have either suggested things without olives, or told me what things the olives could've been removed from. I knew the service was good and the food was beautifully plated, I just didn't love the things we ordered that time. I saw a post on Instagram that they had a French toast with Ube sauce and I knew I needed to go! I fell in love with Ube in Seattle a couple of years ago and now anytime I see it near me, I have to go get it. I saw the post on a Saturday morning and jumped online and made a brunch reservation for 11:45 the same day! Everything we had was fantastic, rather than wanting a basic sausage or bacon to go with the French toast sticks. I ordered the Bella Bella wings as my protein to go with my Ube French toast, and they were fantastic. I also had to start with the watermelon Crudo, which was interesting, the flavors were excellent, but the texture of the watermelon did not resemble watermelon so it could throw you off if you're not at least a mildly adventurous eater. My husband had the prawn and grits and said it was fabulous and that he would order it again. I did not try it because the portion is not that big and the French toast was filling me up so I let him enjoy his own meal, and did share a couple wings with him and he agreed they were really good. The service was great again, and as simple as it sounds, I loved how when we were seated the hostess asked what kind of water we wanted, we did not have to wait for any period of time for a server to come over and ask us. The attention is in the details and that is always important. The cocktails were great, though a little pricey, which is on par for things in CT. We enjoyed them both at brunch and on our first dinner visit. We will be back, and I actually already prepaid for a dinner experience coming up with Filipino food and I'm excited for it! I have friends that went to the first one and said it was epic! So, while we usually go to brunch only if there are bottomless mimosas, this is one exception that will stay in our rotation! The restaurant is cute, intimate and clean.
