down hill is the best way to describe the skiing and the restaurant. these guys ended up giving my son a huge medical emergency because for the second time they did not disclose nuts in things that wouldn't normally have nuts. walnuts the first time in leftover brunch batter which are irritation but not er worthy and then hazelnuts in bread which is er necessary. then theres the food. cold late and slow despite the fact that it wasn't near capacity. when redford sold this place he must have taken the recipes and qualified staff with him. oh who serves hot chocolate in a thin glass mug. im a local and i wont return to this overrated tumbling snow ball. ambience is great. read more

This place is fantastic. We've probably been here a dozen times. The wooden lodge interior is very cozy and inviting (wood-burning fire, nestled window views), but is also truly chic without the chintz of the latest trend on HGTV. Their meat and fish dishes and pizzas are excellent (I've never gone wrong here) and their tortilla soup is a must. Clear, fresh, and fragrant with large chunks of avocado. If you are looking for a fantasy mountain lodge meal, this is it! read more

I had lunch here and absolutely loved it. The ambiance, the service, and the food were all fantastic and this place is a real gem. I was staying in Park City and just visited Sundance for the day and am very happy to report it was worth the trip. I started with a Mountain Cooler ($5) - Ginger Beer, Agave Nectar, Lime, Fresh Mint that was spot on delicious. The bread and butter were also extremely high quality and tasty. There are lots of things on the menu that looked good, so I had a hard time deciding, but ultimately went with the Salmon fish sandwich ($16) - Cucumber, Sprouts, Tomato, Tartar Sauce, on Ciabatta that was one of the best I have ever had. In fact, even the french fries were delicious. I was too full for desert, but wish I tried the Dirt Cup ($6) - Chocolate Mousse, Oreo Crumbs, Fudge Sauce. Had the pork chops... although it was tasty and the sides were just out of this world good... the pork itself was super thin (less than 1/2") dry and a bit tough... taking away from what could be a perfect meal. My lady had the chicken... it was ridiculous good... moist flavorful and the glaze was just amazing... hands down the best chicken brest I've ever had. The sides were a bit lacking... especially the pancetta which was hard and dried out. Dessert was the sticky toffee pudding... wasn't a fan of the ice cream but it was delicious read more

It is always a treat to visit Sundance and even more of a treat when I can stop in for a bite to eat at the Foundry Grill. The menu is always great. This trip had added enjoyment as I was able to share the experience with some of our great customers. I had the Filet which was cooked perfectly. A nice cool pink center and the right amount of char on the outside. We shared a number of different sides, my favorites were the Scallops and the Spicy Muscles. They have a great wine list to pare with your meal. Always a crowd pleaser! read more

We have been to The Foundry Grill 4-5 times (it's too expensive to go more than a few times a year) and this visit was a mixed bag which was dosas considering we took friends who were visiting from out of state. The positives: *The location and atmosphere....The Alpine loop area is just beautiful with water and trees any way you look! *Our food was high quality, tasty (for the most part) and served hot. We especially loved the ribeye, squash side dish and cookie skillet Desert. *Our server checked in on us a couple times. The negatives: *Our server just seemed irritated the whole time we were there. From ordering to her bringing us the check, she never cracked a smile. She asked if we needed anything and when we asked for more ketchup and salt and pepper, she just walked off without saying anything. She did bring those items but even then, sat them on the table and walked away without a word. *The menu has several steak options but you have to order sides ala carte. Hubby got the ribeye which was delicious but on the smaller side. He ordered the squash with goat cheese on the side and it too was delicious. I had the burger from the bar area (not on the menu) because I remembered having it previously along with their garlic fries. Glad they accommodated that request because the other choices were limited. The waitress told us the burger had grilled onions but it came with raw red onions...She already seems irritated so I just pulled the raw onions but the toppings were nothing special. The burger itself was good but with only a dollop of mayo, seemed dry (hence, my request for more ketchup) *We don't mind the resort-style prices when we get resort-style service but last night felt more like an "Applebee's experience" .....it just doesn't warrant the price read more

Unbelievably disappointed in the recent changes to the menu. The quality of food was poor. Every dish was cold on delivery. Servers were unprofessional and not helpful. We love Sundance and have been going to the Foundry Grill since before it was called the Foundry Grill. That said, the last two time we have eaten there we have been so disappointed in the service. This morning we had brunch. Beautiful day and the hostess was kind enough to let us sneak in without a reservation. After my wife swept the crumbs from the previous guest off of her bench seat under the beautiful wild horses painting, the mediocre to poor service started immediately with a blah busser filling our water glasses without so much as a "hello," or "thank you for coming in this morning!" We got nothing but, "He will be with you in a minute." I'm wondering if "he" is our server or Robert Redford! The server came by a minute later to ask for our drink order. I was good with water and my wife asked if she could get a hot chocolate. He said he thought they could make her one and invited us to get going on the buffet. They always have great food at Sundance but I've noticed how a lot more of it seams to be coming out of a freezer vs. being handmade - especially the desserts. The raspberry rhubarb crisp seems like it was made from scratch tho and the fresh whipped cream was perfectly sweet. The crab eggs Benedict had been in the warmer long enough that they were sticking to the pan and the white onion on them was not my favorite. The smoked salmon was good but we had to wait for it as they didn't have any out during our first run on the buffet. The shrimp was really tasty as were the raviolis. They had prime rib that looked awesome and were making omelets to order but we didn't have them this time. The server never engaged with us the whole time we were there. Never a recommendation. Never a question about how we were enjoying the food. Never a question about what brought us to Sundance. Having waited tables at Sundance for a decade myself back in the day I know you have to work hard to make your value known (as appropriate) if you want a tip when waiting tables on a buffet. Otherwise you might get a measly 10%! This guy did nothing at all. Icing on the poorly made service cake is that he brought the bill and didn't clear our dirty dishes nor did he refill my empty water glass! Really? You have ONE job when you are a buffet server...keep the water full. Okay, you need to remove the dirty dishes too! TWO jobs! And for extra credit, engage the customer a little. It's not a hard job. The last time we ate at the Foundry Grill was in September 2019. We had friends from out of town and a table of 10. The server added a 20% gratuity after having provided some of the poorest service I've had in years. Our guest has to ask him three times for a fork after hers fell in the floor. We had to ask for our water and sodas to be refilled. Dirty dishes were left on the table after the server brought us the bill. One person's meal was served 10 minutes after the others were served. I had to ask for lemon for my water twice. No check back on the food or temperatures of our meat. The food was very good, but the service ruined it for us. I would have written the review right then but I had no cell coverage up there at the time. I would have complained to the manager but my wife would have banished me to the dog house for a week. Instead I pulled the server out into the hall and told him he should be embarrassed for gratting our table and then offering such crappy service. He stood there jaw agape, but no apology! He actually didn't say anything. I turned back to my friends and family and he walked away hoping that the hostess didn't hear the feedback I just gave him. $100 is a lot to pay for a buffet. That cost is partly because you're paying for the Sundance ambiance and partly because it's a resort and partly because they do some good food up there. When you pay that much, amazing service is expected - it's not something that is taken for granted. Especially when the server grats the table or when it's a buffet! Our last two experiences at The Foundry Grill have caused us to lose confidence in the service. The ambiance is great. Seasonally adjusted menu is awesome, but if you appreciate good service this place is hit and miss lately so temper your expectations and tip accordingly... read more

She told us on the phone that we were okay then after we drove all the way up there she said they hadn't heard from us and there policy is 15 minutes and unable to sit. You are paying a HEAVY surcharge for the location of this restaurant. It is in a stunning venue surrounded by beautiful mountains and the drive up the canyon is gorgeous. Having said that I found the food be very hit or miss and not a step above what you can get in many places in the valley below. The brussel sprouts were very good, the wedge salad fantastic. The entree itself which cost $50 was pretty bland. I had high hopes for a steak at a such a high end place but was really disappointed. There simply wasn't any flavor other than oil with the steak. I found myself searching for some salt or something to add to the flavor. We took home the coconut mango cake and it was just ok. The mango chutney was very good, the cake very average. Luckily this was for a work event and someone else was paying for it. I would have been sorely disappointed to have dished out over $100 for my meal alone to have such spotty results. The strawberry lemonade was also amazing but for $8 a glass I was surprised not to be offered a refill. Our server was very nice and the staff was very attentive. read more

Took a group of 5 here for dinner. Was recommended by someone at a local ski shop. Honesty for the prices they charge, we were pretty disappointed. It's Michelin food prices for just average fare. The best things on the menu were the appetizers. We ordered dirty fries, brussel sprouts and bread which were all pretty good but nothing spectacular. For entrees my wife, son and I ordered pasta dishes (wife ordered spaghetti squash balogna). My son's pasta dish added shrimp and it came to $42. Wife and mines were both around $30 each. Oldest two kids ordered pizzas. Total bill (5 entrees and 3 apps) came to around $250, with the added gratuity. No drinks were ordered. The lodgy atmosphere is the only thing propping this place up. That and the service was good. For what you pay I'd expect better food. All of our entrees we're just very average tasting. Standard pub type fare. read more

The ambiance is the best feature of the Grill at Sundance. Super rustic and beautiful surroundings. The food was ok however it is incredibly overpriced. We had the charcuterie (very small for the price) and brussel sprouts (very good). Biggest disappointment was the $100+ bone in New York strip steak. It was over cooked and not nearly as big as I was expecting. Service was fine - they offered to recook the steak but I didn't want to wait. I used to really like going to the Foundry Grill but my wife and I both agreed it's gone downhill and we probably won't be going back. read more

My family loves Sundance but the restaurants have gone down hill in recent years. We visited the Foundry Grill last night, probably for the last time. 1. The food. When you pay a lot for food, you expect good food. The presentation should be nice. The food should be hot. My meal, the halibut, was bland. And barely warm. My wife had the salmon and it was over cooked. Yet barely warm. 2. The service. Our waiter acted as if he was totally disinterested in giving us service. We waited 40 minutes for entrees. The restaurant was half full. And as noted, out food arrived cold. Desserts took another 30 minutes to arrive. That would be fine if they were prepared fresh but they aren't. During that 30 minute time period, we didn't see our waiter on the floor. He wasn't at any other tables and we had no idea what he was doing. All in, the night was disappointing and unacceptable. We spent $400+ on a meal that didn't satisfy anyone. We'll go somewhere else next time. read more

He said he will get it ready, there are still a few minutes left. Seriously? BTW, he was not busy at all. He was just standing there and chatted with the hostess. He saw my toddler boy with me. Horrible experience trying to reserve this place for our company Christmas party. I called countless times, left multiple messages, finally got ahold of them so they took down my name, phone number, reservation information (# of people, date I was hoping for) and I was promised many times that they would pass on my information to a manager who needed to confirm the reservation. Shockingly THEY NEVER RESPONDED! I even drove up to Sundance from SLC in hopes that scheduling in person would work better. HUGE WASTE OF MY TIME. Never heard back, it's been over a month, only time I hear from them is when I decide to call them again and they ask me the same couple of reservation questions and promise a manager will get back to me. I wish they would be honest and tell us they can't do our reservation if that's the case. I have a company party to plan and ran out of time waiting for Sundance to respond, so our company decided on something else. Sad because I've heard decent things about the food here... they lost some $$$$ on this one. Hope others are able to have a better experience in the future! read more

I've been to Foundry Grill twice and both times have been very different but both fabulous. The first time I went for a special occasion dinner with my visiting mom. We went for dinner and had an absolutely lovely time. The setting is GORGEOUS. Adorable, cozy little restaurant. We loved the oversized windows and fireplaces and the artwork is beautiful. We both were very pleased with the service and our food was DELICIOUS. I ordered a bison steak that was honestly one of the best meals I've had in Utah. The prices aren't cheap but I would say they are reasonable for a resort and the food was amazing so I can justify it. I stopped in this week for lunch and that too was amazing and more reasonably priced than dinner. Once again, the setting is perfect. I found it even more lovely in the daylight sitting by the window. They bring out complimentary bread that was a cranberry bread of some sort, it was delicious. I almost asked for more. I had the pappardelle which was a generous serving, very tasty, and the mushrooms were all prepared perfectly. My friend had the crab roll and we got a side of cauliflower. Everything was super tasty and around $20 / person which is very reasonable in my opinion. VERDICT: Eat here. Even if just for apps or drinks the atmosphere is too perfect to ignore. If you're on a budget, stick to lunch but if you do decide on dinner it is very worth it. This is one of my top spots for special dinners and to bring out-of-towners because a few hours at Sundance eating good food is ALWAYS worth it. read more

A well deserved upgrade. This is a rare five star review. It also gives me a chance to go overboard covering what is the best burger I've had in Utah. The restaurant has been getting better and better over the last few years. Today was sort of an anniversary meal. We took a very nice bottle of wine that was doing very well being a 14 year old CA Pinot that many would not think would age as well as it has. This atmosphere has always been a place where you could be comfortable in anything but the most casual of clothing. It's easy to forget what a great view sits outside the window. We started with the fried brussels sprouts. They were yet another preparation that even those who hate brussels sprouts should love. The wife had the salmon, cooked properly, and we got the grits. Both were excellent, but this review is all about the burger. They've done slightly different versions of the burger for years. It's been good, but never great. This was the first time I'd seen the meat update. It's advertised as Black Angus Wagyu burger. In order for this to be true, it's a mix of meat from both breeds. I was worried because Wagyu is more about being trendy than being flavorful. Those who know me know that, for me, it's all about beef that actually tastes like beef. Too many burger have bland tasting meat, and it's all about the toppings. They delivered it cooked medium rare to rare. That's just as I asked for. The grind on the beef was not overly fine. That gave it some texture. The flavor was the essence of beef. The Gold Creek white cheddar was perfectly melted. The toppings were on the side. All I cared about was adding some of the excellent pickled onion. That created a nice accent. The bun was good. The meat was nicely seasoned. Everything came together to create a burger that's as good as anything I've ever made, even when I'm grinding mixed cuts into my burger meat. That's a real testament to what is very close to the perfect burger. Now, the fries. They were the garlic fries. Delicious. This is no regular fry with a sprinkling of garlic powder, you can see, and taste the minced roasted garlic. I like that they didn't feel they had to supply some fancy locally prepared ketchup. It was obviously Heinz. That's the flavor we all grew up with, and it's what makes fries taste right. Well done. The service and pacing was perfect. The desert was good, but not as good as I hoped. We had a reservation at 7 p.m. for four people on a Monday. Even with that, we had to wait 15-ish minutes for our table to be ready. We received water quickly but I eventually had to call a table buser over to ask if she could locate our waitress. From the time we sat down to ordering our drinks was 30 minutes. Once our waitress did arrive, we were ready to order drinks and our entire meal because we'd had so much time with the menu. It was a good thing we ordered a charcuterie board and bread to share because the rest of our food took an hour -- and even then, only three of four entrees were ready. It was at least another 15 minutes for my friend's mac 'n cheese. The food was all delicious but the service was horrible and by 8 p.m., it didn't seem like a case of the restaurant being too busy. The waitress thanked us for our patience but to spend 60-85 minutes waiting for a late dinner is ridiculous especially with the prices at The Foundry. If the food wouldn't have been delicious, this would be a one-star review. My husband had steak with potatoes and broccolini; my friends ordered bucatini and mac 'n cheese; and I ordered the soup of the day (carrot curry). The next time we stay on property, we will exclusively make our own dinners or order in-room dining from The Deli. The wait and price wasn't worth it. read more

I hate to do this but the foundry really disappointed us last night. After raving about how amazing this place is, my husband surprised me with a valentines weekend dinner. Upon getting there, I quickly decided on the steak. The waiter convinced us to try their duck special, and with reluctance, we switched entrees. I tried the duck and was not impressed. My angel husband switched me with his entree, a spaghetti squash dish. It was inedible with how salty it was. At the end of the dinner, the waiter profusely apologized, did not have us pay for the spaghetti squash entree, and we left dissatisfied. This morning, both my husband and I woke up with horrible stomachaches. Related? Maybe. But regardless, I am so thankful for the customer service. We probably won't be back for a while though. This is one of those great places that you can come to over and over and always have a good meal. Important things to me are ambiance, food, prices.... so I will go over those. If ambiance is your thing, they do the "upscale rustic" that Sundance always does so well. Bring folks from out of town and see their reaction... sometimes you have to be reminded as to what an amazing place we live in, and if you see it through someone else's eyes, you will be reminded what a special place this is. Every season is a new experience and Sundance steps up. Rock fireplaces, wood floors, all with giant windows (that could have used a good washing, but I am not knocking off stars because of the food...). Add to the ambiance that Robert Redford was actually there in the restaurant (not eating... meeting with the employees), adds a little wink and a nod to the fact that he really does participate in this and doesn't just put his name on it. Food - wow. We really had a great meal. We split two different sandwiches. The Buffalo BBQ was amazing... moist and tasty. The Tri Tip was so-so, but add the garlic fries with that, and well, that was so amazing, I probably would just order that by itself in the future! The sweet potato fries were good too, but I will dream about the garlic fries for awhile. Price - yes, it does seem expensive, however for a resort meal, this is actually not bad. They ran about 16-18, included the fries (no upcharge for sweet potato or garlic) and if you dont want the fries, you can get soup or salad. They also serve a warm homemade bread with butter, had great quality service and all that was part of the "price" - It was worth it to us. In the future, we would probably just split the Buffalo BBQ as it was quite large. read more

Sundance is my all-season go to for a nice getaway. The air is clear and the ambiance is top notch. If you are lucky enough to score a table next to one of the fire places, you are in for a real treat. I love the charcuterie board! They try to bring in a unique combination of local meals, cheeses, jams and actual honeycomb! I do feel like here you get what you pay for as I have tried to scrimp and have left feeling a bit bummed. (For example, recently I ordered a Cobb salad with chicken. very small and so not worth the $17ish. The salmon and trout are good, as are the seasonal desserts. Ultimately, this is a fun, mountain meal experience so you are paying for the charm even more so than the food - though that is generally pretty good. read more

I try to approach each restaurant I visit with constructive criticism, but I honestly couldn't think of anything that I did not like about this place. My wife and I just spent 3 days and 2 nights at the Sundance Mountain Resort, and we ate at the Foundry Grill once for breakfast, once for dinner, and once for Sunday brunch. Each meal was a great experience. The staff members and servers were all very friendly and attentive. Even on a very busy night, our server made sure we were taken care of, and our food came out quickly. But more than just great service, the food here speaks for itself. Extremely fresh, with local sourcing, the menu is constantly changing with a wide variety that will surely satisfy any patron. As good as our dinner was, my favorite meals were our breakfast, and Sunday brunch. I got their traditional Eggs Benedict with a side of delicious bacon.
