Two words: Bed Bugs. Two more words: Horrific service. Last two words: NOT safe. Save your money & go elsewhere. We checked in & performed a routine check & within 20 minutes found: -Bedbugs crawling on the mattress -the bolt-lock on the door unscrewed & tampered with -the peephole pushed out of the door (you could see straight in from the hall) -A staff member staring into our room as we walked in, concerning given the locks being tampered with -Dirty Footprints in the shower When we checked out twenty minutes later, requesting a refund, speaking to the front desk-manager and his manager was about as productive as calling the White House and asking to speak to the President. This hotel must be some sort of tourist scam, given that they refused to refund us, refused to produce us a receipt, refused to give us a copy of policies (stating they "only had one copy), and refused to give us any manager contact information, then lied and said they gave us one, but it was the front desk number when we called to check. Let's begin by the cold greeting of this indian lady confronting me about how she tried to call me but there's no answer. We checked in late because we were driving in the dark with poor visibility and we had to take our time. She began talking in a robotic monotone of where everything is. The bathroom smells like mold and mildew. Possibly to the obviously unchanged shower curtain. The bottom of the shower all around was covered with rust and mold. The corners of the carpet are visibly dusty. The ice machine is nowhere to be found. Honestly though, i think you get what you paid for. This hotel is a roadside motel at best. The rooms look nothing like the online pictures. There's an overwhelmingly gross smell in the hallways and rooms that's like they're trying to cover cigarettes with air freshener. The parking lot was repaved while we stayed and instead of letting us know at check in so we could move our car, they waited a few hours and then banged on our door to tell us. The room was dark and dirty. Missing basic amenities like a hair dryer and an in room safe. There was a police presence when we came back to the hotel in the evening which was unsettling, made moreso by someone trying to get into our room around 11:30pm. We basically waited until the sun came up (to avoid whatever the hell was going down in the parking lot) and hauled ass out of there a night early. read more

When a hotel property is attached to an elite collection of a hotel brand, you'd expect a certain style or sophistication. I failed to see such an expectation. I found the Freeport hotel here In Freeport, Maine on hotels.com while researching the area on where to stay. It was about a 15 minute drive from where I needed to be, but my friend decided to stay here and I booked this hotel too. We were on a 4 state binge to run marathons in New England and Maine was state 2. Initially though that the Ascend Collection brand of hotels was defined luxury, but as it turns out, it's not. Seems sophisticated and upscale, but not. With that said, my friend and I stayed here at the Freeport hotel (separate rooms). I opted for the king sized bed, naturally, since I usually get a good night's sleep while traveling. We arrived at the hotel around 4:45pm to get checked in. We arrived to find a hotel that's more like a motel in design, but it was more or less satisfactory for us. Just a clean and safe place to rest and sleep before heading out to 26.2 again. That's the basics of what hotels will offer. Anything else would be a treat for me. Pools and other amenities are nice and adds incentive to stay there, but that's not the reason why. Still, my stay here at the Freeport hotel was adequate. I got my 8 hours in before having to wake up at 4:30am to shuttle myself and my friend down to Portland, ME. The overall experience here at the Freeport hotel in Freeport, ME was good and typical. It was your typical hotel / motel combo that was cheap enough, but comfortable and clean enough to meet my expectations at least for one night. While I didn't partake in the complimentary breakfast, it would have been nice to have, but I was out the door at around 4:30am. The check in and out process was fast and friendly. The service here was good and friendly too. Everything was on point during my stay and didn't have high expectations anywhere. You really do get what you pay for, when it comes to hotel room stays. The hotel is basically a one story building that looks like a series of connected houses with one central walkway connecting. The hotel is not bad, but I guess I wanted to like it more. I've stayed at places that have seen better days to the moderately upscale. The Freeport hotel is decidedly on the lower end of the hotel spectrum, but definitely not at the bottom. The room was nice and basic. Main thing it was clean and the bed specs were as advertised for use. I know the bed was good enough and it was comfortable to be able to just lay there after a day in the car. If you are in the area and needing that rest, consider the Freeport hotel in Freeport, Maine for your accommodations of choice. The Freeport hotel is located in Freeport, Maine. It's physical address is 506 US Hwy 1. The hotel is attached to the Choice Hotels hotel branding as well, so you can get your loyalty points from them, if you decide to stay here too. There is a pretty big sign out in front of the hotel, so you probably won't miss it. Even if you do, you can always find an area to turn around and return. As far as parking goes, they have a generous space for everyone and anyone who decides to stay here. Free parking is always awesome! As far as public transport goes, I believe there is none. Although Amtrak has a station here, that's basically it. The closest airport would be in Portland, Maine. However you get here, best thing to do is to rent a car elsewhere and come here. Not sure how viable Uber/Lyft is, but do check the service area before committing to that service, if you choose to. Freeport, ME is decidedly rural terrain. Make your next jumping off point for Maine lobster at the Freeport hotel. 4.0 stars for the overall experience. 4.0 stars for the location and service. 3.5 stars for the room rate, but 4.5 stars for the room comfort. Nope. No. Nope. Just no. Our room reeked of a mold/mildew/rotting rodents stew. We told the clerk (wasn't surprised - hint) & changed rooms only to discover the stench was everywhere that was carpeted, the hallways AND rooms. Toxic Carpet adhesive rotting? Whatever, It made me retch. Choice Hotels are private equity owned. They must have sucked every penny of "equity" out of this place and left it to die a slow, painful death. Let me start by saying our family stayed here one night. The "hotel" lobby was very nice, however that was the highlight of this place. It's nothing more than a cheaply updated motel - quite disappointing since we paid over $160 for one night. Let me get to the specifics.. - Rooms were extremely small. Only one person could pass by the beds at a time, making getting ready in the morning incredibly frustrating. - Sheets had stains on them - Hotel room was cheaply updated. The lobby misrepresents this "hotel" - Bathroom only had two towels, although there were three of us staying in a double room We checked out early the next morning, so I have no opinion to offer on the breakfast that is complimentary with the stay. read more

not good AT ALL!! got checked in and went to the room. the floor was disgusting- looked like it hadn't been vacuumed in weeks. the toilet was horrible- scummy at the bottom of the bowl, the bottom of the toilet near the floor was filthy. there were ants crawling on the bathroom floor. the little mirror was dirty, opened the refrigerator and almost gaged- ALOT of black mold in it. went to call the office to report this and ask the guy to come see the disgusting mess. the phone had no cords connecting it to the wall or phone jack. went over to the office and tild him we wanted our money back, that the room was so gross. wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy!! read more

I reserved a room before reading the reviews, which for the most part are very bad. I tried to cancel the reservation but was given the run around by the hotel manager, Amrit Singh, and by Choice. I finally got Choice to call the hotel and the desk clerk gave them authorization to cancel. Do NOT stay at this hotel. I'm uncertain of the actual quality but this experience makes me never want to use this chain of hotels and especially this one. read more

I stayed in this hotel for 2 nights while on a trip with my family. The staff was very friendly upon check in. The hotel room was clean but needed some repair and updates. It has a continental breakfast which was not great but it was at least something. It's reasonably priced and comfortable so would probably stay here again. read more

it reeks of weed we got a room that was mid-clean so we had to wait for it to be done room smells moldy and musty bathroom fan doesnt work found a random pill on the ground (obviously the cleaning service missed it) door doesnt shut unless you apply extensive force to it the carpet and the bed feel moist wifi was terrible i think the only positive thing was that the staff was extremely nice read more

We stayed at the Freeport Hotel during a recent trip to Maine. This hotel was economically priced and offered a very small room that was fine for us as we spent most of our time outdoors and just needed a place to sleep. Positives: Great location that allowed easy access to Portland as well as sights to the north. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Convenient to local restaurants, supermarkets and shopping. Right across the street from Maine Brewing Co. (make reservations). Negatives: If you want anything from your hotel besides a small, clean place to stay, look elsewhere. The rooms in back face the highway and some people complained about highway noise, but honestly it wasn't an issue for me. I marked this down a star because Choice Hotels lists this as part of its Ascend collection, and that implies a higher standard of room and service than what was offered. I would NEVER recommend this glorified Motel. Even though I booked through a third party and got a slightly better rate, they still have the nerve to charge upwards of $300 a night (which includes taxes). For one, The motel smells like cigarettes! I had to switch rooms three times because two of the rooms didn't even have locks on the doors. By the time I got into the final room it reeked of bad perfume that just seemed like it was trying cover up more cigarette smell. The floor and carpets were gross (wouldn't walk around barefoot even in the rom). And unfortunately for me right outside my room was the trash can that everyone dumped in and hung out in front of and smoked even more butts! In the morning there was trash spewed everywhere with seagulls picking at it and not one cleaning person around to deal with it. There was still someone else's hair in my shower so clearly it wasn't cleaned very well! The breakfast that they serve looked old and reheated and didn't even start until 8! Many of the ceiling tiles had water stains and mold. And being a constant traveler having a hotel that has certain things for sale like very standard medications like Tylenol or Tums is important, something that this motel just did not offer. Also, they had a patio area that just had chairs kind of thrown everywhere and in no order and a fire pit that didn't work. The only positive was that the bed was actually comfortable, so I have to assume they just got new mattresses. I would save my money! I would rather have stayed at the Econo Lodge across the street that looked better taken care of than this place. Don't let the photos fool you. This place is awful! read more

I only stayed here for one night to break up a long road trip, but I was so grateful for the clean, comfortable room. I saw another review talking about how the room faced a highway, but mine faced a little fire pit sitting area and was nice and quiet. The bathroom was clean (no cigarette smell), the bed was big and comfy, and the person who checked me in could not have been nicer. Plus, I was able to park right in front off the entrance, which was great since it was pouring outside when I arrived. The next morning, I stayed long enough to enjoy the free continental breakfast and get some work done on my laptop in their little dining area, and I was on my way, but I'm glad I stopped to stay here. The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because it is a basic, no-frills kind of hotel, but that was just what I needed. read more

This was the worst hotel I have ever checked into. I was in the room for maybe 10 minutes before going down to the office and demanding a refund. For starters, there was mold on the tile when I walked in. I put my stuff down and checked the bathroom. Mold in the toilet, in the sink, in the shower, and on the curtain. Yuck. I checked the bed and there were stains on the pillows, lampshades, and curtains. It looked like the last person left and housekeeping just made the bed instead of cleaning it. The room wreaked of cigarette smoke. There was no lock on the door. It was loud and right on the highway. You'd think a hotel that is in such a large tourist area would be at LEAST a comfortable stay. You're better off staying at the Hampton inn down the street...or even your car for that matter. Rooms were very small and curtains were stained. Bed mattress sank. Furnitures were old. Office chair was broken and sunk near the floor. It's a typical 1-2 star motel but rooms could use a deep cleaning and some fresh coat of paint. 3 stars for location... 20 minutes drive to Portland, 5 minutes to Freeport outlet, 1 hour to Boothbay Harbor and Popham Beach. Breakfast is nothing great...bagels, cereal, toast, pre-made frozen egg patties and sausage. We opted to eat out instead. read more
