My most vivid memory of French Baker is not of the breads I buy to go, but of eating their soup on a bread bowl. Honestly, it's one of the best simple yet ingenious food creations - they carve out a large crispy round bread, then put the soup of the day there. You sip the soup and you can slowly tear off chunks of the bread as you do. The crispy bread is easily softened by the soup, and by the time you have finished your soup, the bread will be softer (with soup flavor!) and easier to eat. At less than P150, it's a filling and complete meal in itself.
French Baker also serves pastas, pizzas, salads, and rice meals, but it's really the soup on a bread bowl that I sit down for.
Of course I am also one of the usual customers who buy bread to go. And at Southmall, you can't miss French Baker as it's right there when you go inside from the main entrance. My favorite are the danishes, especially the blueberry danish. Not only do they look good, they also taste good. It's basically sweet blueberry on a flat croissant-like bread. read more
