I came on a Tuesday before noon there was no wait and the place was half empty. We were seated quickly but waited a long time for our food. We started with the cheesy tater tots. They were good. 4 to an order is kind of small but they tasted good. The cheese sauce was reminiscent of velveeta. For mains we got the gochujang chicken sandwich and the pastrami sandwich. The chicken sandwich was cooked well and large in size but underwhelming in flavor. The pastrami sandwich was spicy but had a lot of flavor going on but wasn't memorable. The waffle fries were hot and crisp with a nice seasoning to them. Served with a big half sour pickle. I would go back and try other things. While on a short stay in Boston (to see Chris Brown ofc) we stopped by here for brunch. Overall, the place is spacious and clean. It has a dive vibe. Very retro and in a good way. The food was average. I had the classic breakfast- bacon, scrambled eggs, home fries and toast. My friend had a similar breakfast with the flight and a pancake on the side. The home fries were seasoned but did not come with onions or peppers. In NY, we are used to that but maybe it's not a thing in Boston. Would I come back? Eh. There's a chain of the friendly toast that I had never been to one. I was in the Chestnut Hill Boston area and my kids and I stopped here for brunch. I started off with a champagne flight and they were very refreshing and satisfying. We had the tater tot appetizer, which was really very cheesy and yummy. My daughter had the breakfast burrito, my son had the Monster pancake breakfast, and I had the Monte Madame, which was out of this world. I wish they had one of these establishments in Rhode Island, but it's only an hour away, so I'm definitely going to be back, and you should definitely go as well if there's one in your area. The customer service was also phenomenal in the interior was very eclectic and Pretty we played I Spy due to all the interesting decor on the walls and counters, which was also very entertaining lol. Need brunch and don't want to fight for parking-- decided to try ou tthis location of the Friendly Toast. Adorable comic book sci fi design vibe (mid century modern booths with metal edged formica and sparkly naughehyde vinyl). Everything we ate was tasty as hell, and I didn't have to stress the parking. Also we could go shopping after and not have to move the car or fill a meter. Excellent friendly and adorable staff. We weren't drinking alcohol but this could be a fun place for friends if you were. Personally, I love Friendly Toast and I think it's a fun spot to bring friends from out of town to. They got some unique food options like the gochujang burger and some fun seasonal drinks, and I love their breakfast tacos. The location is convenient and right inside the mall. The service and waitstaff are kind and attentive, but the food leaves much to be desired. I've really tried to give this place a try but something just cannot be replicated by the magic that is their original and whacky decorated Cambridge location. They seem to have done a good job with the decor and menu but I'm not sure if there's different ingredients or the way food is prepared, but it's a completely different dining experience at this location. We've had food that was over cooked, greasy, or under seasoned (eg omelette, avocado toast, eggs Benedict). This is a full blown restaurant with a hostess; they seat everybody. I was alone so I figured I would miss the line and sit as the bar. Yes a breakfast place with a bar. It is located in a mall so lots of parking and I am sure a hefty rent. That would account for the higher prices. There was a line to get in so that tells me something about the quality . Even though they had plenty of seating, the place filled right up. The serving size was average. I was stlll hungry afterwards. The omelet looked like two eggs. If it was three eggs, they must be from a small chicken. The home fries were diced potatoes, cooked but not dripping with oil. I could have had more. I could taste the pepper used for seasoning. I had a vegetable omelette with spinach, tomatoes, mushroom, broccoli and goat cheese. Yum. They must have pre-cooked the broccoli in order for the el dente texture. I had the Eggs Benny, a perfect 10 on the Hollandaise, which is the real point of enjoying any Benny dish, not too creamy or loose with the exact subtle amount of lemon in this recipe. English muffin was a little chewy and next time I'll request the egg yolks to be over easy. My good friend had the cinnamon swirl French toast. She loved the fresh maple butter sandwiched in the center of the 2 thick slices, good touch with the individual bottle of maple syrup. My girlfriend and I tried the coffee crunch cereal drink and it was fine, a bit more bitter than we thought. Our food was amazing though! The first thing I would suggest is to make a reservation even if you're just going for breakfast. The place is busy! I took a friend from out of town and honestly I was embarrassed about the food and the service. The got a standard breakfast with eggs and corn beef hash. The eggs and potatoes were mid and the hash looked like brains. No hash you've ever seen in New England! I immediately slid them off my plate and into a napkin. My friend half way through her meal which was a rice bowl found what looked to be dental floss in her food - 2 long strings. Later we thought it could've been a string of a wrapper of some sort because of its texture but it definitely wasn't just a regular string. On top of that the waiter was rude and inexperienced. Neither of us ate more than 1/3 of our food if that and left to go to the Cheesecake Factory instead. We did get an apology and gift card from the manager which was a nice gesture. Friendly Toast restaurants exude a large amount of "breakfast gravity" on me; it's hard to turn down a chance to eat at one when I'm near one. With this visit, I experienced a couple of firsts. First 1 - it was quiet and only maybe one-quarter occupied. That was probably because it was lunchtime on a weekday at a restaurant in a strip mall. I suspect it's much busier during breakfast and brunch hours on weekends. First 2 - Instead of breakfast, I ordered from the lunch choices for the first time ever. There were lots of interesting hand-held, salad, and sandwich options, but I chose their fried chicken sandwich, because that's sort-of my test sandwich someplace. I'm not aware of anyplace else that claims a Rice Krispies influenced batter. Coffee (they use Peet's) came out quickly, though ever so lightly lukewarm instead of hot, though the refill, which came at the right time, was warmer. The sandwich comes with a reasonable amount of waffle-cut fries and one of the most delicious garlic dill pickles I've had in a long time - if they sell jars of these, I'm so buying some. The sandwich was perhaps more minimally garnished than similar sandwiches at other restaurants - pickled red onion, slices of dill pickle, a sauce. But minimal isn't bad, and in fact this relatively simple construction was quite satisfying. I received very good service. Besides my waitress, I was checked on at regular times by other staff as they passed by. Decor is, as always, eclectic and one of the things that makes dining at a Friendly Toast enjoyable. We usually go the the one at Legacy Place in Dedham with the family and although very busy the food it very good. This time we went to the one at the Mall at Chestnut Hill. We did not have a good experience although the waitress was very nice. The hash brown potatoes were extremely hard and we sent them back but the replacements were not much better. Switched meals with my wife because they did not have any sugar free syrup which I use because I am a diabetic. We decided to take everything to go and will stay with the one at the Legacy Place. If possible, can you add the sugar free syrup which we find available at the other restaurants we go to for breakfast or brunch. read more

The highway strawberry was great but in my opinion, it was too sweet for me. The toast was really soft and delightful. The strawberries were sweet in a good way. For a local brunch chain, they've got some pretty good bites, friendly staff, and a good ol' somewhat retro atmosphere. As this location is located within the Chestnut Hill Mall, there's plenty of places to park and a handful of places to shop at before and after filling your belly up When it comes to the food, their apps were pretty savory and not terribly heavy, especially for their breakfast eggrolls and their jumbo tots. As for their chicken and waffles, their portion seems pretty generous with how large everything seems. Though their burgers are tasty, I probably wouldn't get it again since it wasn't as filling as I'd prefer (as I'm more of a big eater, but that's just my personal problem). As for drinks, they do have a pretty cute cocktail menu, but unfortunately, I haven't had the opportunity to try them today... so that'll definitely be a goal for next time. It has been a brunch staple for me since 2018. I was so excited when I saw they opened a location in Chestnut Hill. My husband and I either eat here or get delivery through DoorDash several times per month. My go to is the pancake monster breakfast. I also love their breakfast burritos.
