Love this place. I'm new in town, so I don't have anywhere to compare it to, but the the food is hot and fresh every time I go. Prices are great considering the quality of food and the huge portions. Wait time is short and there's free parking in the lot across the street. This is a great place to have a solo lunch but it's also family and pet friendly. Some camping tables are set up near the entrance, so you could stay and dine there or take some food to go. The chef is an authentic Scotsman with a lovely accent who knows how to give service with a smile. I've made this my go-to place for fish and chips. read more

The absolute best fish and chips i've had. No fuss or frills, just consistently good food. We always get the halibut. The market price pricy, but it's sooo tender with zero fishy smell. A splurge, but oh so good. The batter and fry is light and crisp, with great all around in texture and flavor. And the tarter sauce is well balanced and tastes homemade. We usually order one extra tarter sauce. I add malt vinegar for that umami factor, yum! And if you love potatoes, like i do, you'll love his thick chunked fries. Once, awhile back, my fries had a fishy oil taste, but no more, yay! For sometime now the fries have been fantastically freshly fried and satisfying. I'd like them salted a little more, but no biggy, as i typically enjoy more salt than most and it's easy to add as desired. I'd like a bigger serving of the complimentary side of yummy cole slaw, to help cleanse the palate more often, and bc it's challenging to share, but we make do. Excellent British style fish and chips. My wife who is Canadian loved the style. I think the Halibut was a little better than the haddock. Both great though. First time trying this place and we've been wanting to try it out for some time but we had difficulty finding it! The Frying Scotsman is in a relatively large food court area with lots of seating all around. It's hard to miss it with the Scottish flag! I heard lots of positive comments about this place and I was intrigued because people were saying they had the most authentic fish and chips in the PNW. Coming from Britain myself, I really had to try this out. I got a large battered cod fish and chips and a portion of fries. The fish and chips came with a small side of tartar sauce and coleslaw. I liked how crunchy and crisp the fish was and I loved the chunky, potatoey fries too. Just how we have our chips in the U.K! The coleslaw was very tasty and creamy and I wished there was more, haha! Tartar sauce was fresh and bursting with authentic flavor. The only thing that was a little weird to me was the hint of curry taste when I bit into my cod fish. I don't know if it was added intentionally, as a spice or seasoning, or if it was a mistake. The fish was also a little bit oily. The owner of the cart was nice and answered all of our questions about the food. He was absolutely right when he said the large was big enough for two people! It was plenty of food! We ordered the red snapper. I had fresh red snapper in Vietnam so I had no idea what to expect getting it fried. I haven't had decent fish and chips in this area so I was excited to try it. It was soo good. We were pleasantly surprised with how good the food was. The fish was crispy without being all crisp. It had plenty of meat on it. The chips were pretty good. They were big and thick like real British chips, not these thin ones that many places serve. They weren't twice-fried, but that's okay. Rain, rain, go away, but nothing some fish and chips can't fix! Saturday a little after 11:30a and it looks like a few people and I had the same idea. Ordering a regular 4 oz portion of the battered cod fish and chips sounded like the perfect remedy to the weather. After 7 minutes, the beautiful piece of cod was large and so fluffy! Getting ahead of myself, the order comes with a little side of tarter sauce and coleslaw. Both the outside batter was thin and crisp, so freshly fried that it was falling off the fish and didn't mind the contrasting textures of soft fish to the crisp fried batter. The tarter sauce was definitely different than the "canned stuff" from restaurants and really enjoyed it with the entree. The coleslaw too was light and added that crunch as a refresher. I added some HP sauce on the side as the entree isn't seasoned so you control everything once your order is out. The HP sauce reminded me of a thinner A1 sauce with a different little tang, real nice balance than just vinegar. Quite a lot of chips and they are in between a wedge and flat fry so it was great, fried perfectly. A definite stop at the food cartels! read more

He helped us decide on some items and we narrowed our order to: Halibut n chips, large order Haddock n chips, regular order Bangers (sausage) and chips, regular order 3 diet cokes The order came to $30 and change, and they were served piping hot. The next task was to find a place to eat. The Scotsman suggested going to the Courthouse Square, located 2 blocks to the left. It was a great place to enjoy our food cart lunch and people watch. The fish was excellent, but the fries (chips) not so much. He did have HP sauce, ketchup, vinegar, etc to add to your food, but you had to literally splash it before leaving. I probably could give it five stars but I don't have a comparison for some things. I was told by my friend that this was the best fish and chips he's ever had and most like the stuff in the uk. Well with that resounding endorsement how could I resist. I got the haddock which I think I regret. While it's the traditional way it had a slightly fishy taste that for whatever reason I just couldn't abide. The batter was without equal. Crispy and a little bit greasy but not too heavy. I could see myself going back to try the cod. I love cod. The chips were toothsome but a little too dense and heavy. No amount of salt or hp sauce seemed to penetrate them. I was warned they weren't seasoned though. I guess this is how they do it across the pond. The value was amazing. I'll take that deal any day. Overall I'd come back to try something else because haddock just wasn't for me. read more
