I have to admit that I am somewhat impressed with their evolution over time, namely in regards to the beers that are available, and the fact that they have raised the concept of a sports bar to a new level, namely that they feel much better to sit down with a drink, and a lot less sleazy, that others. Of course, one of the main things that sets them apart is the fact that they pretty much has no pokies.

The fitout of this sports bar didn't do a lot for me. A bit grey and dull, I reckon. The scotches on offer were a bit pedestrian. I chose a Glenfiddich which was ok but as always no standout performer. Service was just ok here without any real warmth or human interest. I actually prefer the pokies pub up the road - and I momentarily forget its name - despite the fact that I detest pokies. The atmosphere is better there. The staff have been lovely there when I've visited. Tim E's review encourages me to discount thoughts of ever eating at the Sporting Club. In the end the only thing I really liked was the name of the place although a person I trust likes this place. Such is life. PS - I later remembered the name of the pub up the road. It's called The Vine. The front bar is called The Vineyard. In all of Melbourne there's not a place that looks less like a vineyard.

I'm sure some people like this pub, but as it turns out I'm not really one of those people. Then…read moreagain that probably does have a lot to do with it being an Irish Pub, and I certainly have got sick of them quite quickly, namely because they simply seem like they are everywhere, and really have very little to offer, which includes beers on tap. Oh, this place is also pretty small, which means that it does get quite crowded on a regular basis. Honestly, there are better places to go to in the city.

That's all my mind could think of. I could name some ideal venues, but my aim was to stay CBD close. After some failed attempts, The Irish Times caught my eye, and I soon found myself settling down in a cozy private booth for one. The specials going on were burgers and a pint, but I wasn't down for anything too heavy, it was still not even midday. So I went for the lamb chops starter, it's comes with three, which was plenty for me. And I accompanied my meal with a pint of Kilkenny. All in all, it satisfied my want, which was a vague food and beer. And that's exactly what I got. Nothing culinary exciting, and no beer to rave about. But The Irish Times served it's purpose, and I am grateful.

However I know how much fun this is! I drag people along and they fall in love! It's so much fun. You order at the bar, best value is the 3L beer tap, gets brought to your table and glasses always filled up for $48 or make it a spirit for $68. It's great for a group of 4 or 5 to share. And then from there it's $2 per person per game. Now that's just amazing for the sake of $10 you got yourself a good few hours in this place! If your looking for something to do in the city I promise you'll love it here, take some friends down see them give you a weird look until you get in and start playing! Let the fun begin.

Five minutes later we had a lit up beer tap and a board ready for us to play! Talk about efficiency! The games uses only coins, you can exchange notes for coins at the bar. There's a whole variety of different types of IDarts games. We took turns, one team vs another. The darts are made from strong plastic and once thrown it attaches itself to one of the many holes on the dart board. That's only if you dart it strong enough onto the board. The game has camera technology, so if you missed a shot, it can detect it. It's a lot of fun and you learn more about the intricacies of darting!
