93 year old elderly woman asked to wait outside in humid August heat! My Mother and I were exploring the store when she felt tired and needed to sit down. She said she would go to the chair near the window and sit. 5 minutes later, she wasn't there and I went to the front desk and asked the two men working if they had seen my Mother. One man said, yes, pointed to a man helping a customer at the register and said, "He told her to wait in the outside chairs." I went outside and asked Mom, "Why are you sitting outside in the heat and humidity and not inside where it's air-conditioned?" She replied that she had been directed to sit outside. I went in and asked the man why he made my 93 year old mother wait outside in the hot August heat/humidity and he said, "because that is where the chairs are." I should call County Social Services and report him for ELDER ABUSE. Insensitive, rude, inconsiderate and totally ignorant of what the heat does to older individuals. Unkind. Has the potential of a decent antique store. However, as we are traveling through the area last year, upon entering a couple leaving was clearly upset over the elderly lady working. I over heard how she was so rude and grumpy. Fast forward to us a year later. Again traveling through the area we stopped in. All we heard was this same lady complaining. Then, as my husband was on his phone comparing an item for verification she was loudly talking to a coworker we were taking pictures. I am sorry, but if we are about to spend $100's we are going to confirm what we are buying is authentic. Needless to say we did purchase the item, but next time through we will skip this location. This place was interesting to say the least. Located right off of US 20 going east towards Rockford and Chicago, it was very convenient to just stop right in on the way home from Galena. This place is FILLED with antiques of all sorts ranging from authentic Civil War bullets found near Atlanta, GA to Pez dispensers to creepy looking vintage dolls and old travel brochures. Some things were fairly priced though. I picked up a cool vintage pennant from Canada for a mere $2 to hang up on my wall. However, it was disappointing that their "vintage" signs were clearly replicas and were priced anywhere from $15 to $30 when they were worth no more than $5 a piece because they were replicas--not real antique signs. Prices were non-negotiable too, so don't bother making an offer. Also, the old man at the check-out seemed to seriously dislike anyone who didn't buy pricey items. He also thought my boyfriend and I were stealing merchandise because he didn't see the mini Buddha that my boyfriend put at the counter right in front of his face. They also don't take credit cards, so if you want to buy an expensive painting or something, be prepared by having $100 dollar bills in your wallet prior to coming here. Last thing. Their cash register consists of a simple calculator and apparently if you want to buy a bottle of pop or water, you have to do a separate transaction for some reason. Be prepared to wait at least 5 minutes at the check out line because your simple purchase can turn out to be one of the most complicated transactions of your life. This place is pretty cool overall and is filled with pretty awesome merchandise, but the staff presence was lacking and the unfriendliness was a huge turn-off in the end. read more

I love this store and enjoy the collections offered by in each of the different booths. I was in line waiting to pay for four things I found and loved when I noticed their sign saying "cash or check only". This seemed short-sighted to me. I was happy and ready to spend $100. - $125. without a second thought. I would have given one item to a dear friend for a housewarming present. She would have truly loved it. The other three items would have been kept in our home. I planned to put one of the items on my desk where I only keep my favorite things. But, I couldn't buy any of them because I don't carry cash. As in, I never carry cash. Further, there is a subtle judgment to your customers in stating that you are upset that the world has changed against small business owners. Unfortunately, it has. I own my own business as well. Advice: don't try to "educate" your customers through your quiet protests. You just upset them and lose them. Instead, look for solutions. I understand the potential for losing money to false claims of fraudulent charges. So, then only accept Debit charges. The requirements to successfully file a fraudulent claim are far more stringent than with the credit companies. I understand you don't want to pay the credit fees. Illinois law allows you to pass the fees on to your customers. All you have to do is replace your current sign with a notification. I would gladly pay the fee because I know I am paying it everywhere else. Other businesses are just working their fee into their marked prices. Lastly, I would guess you think your customers can just go down the road to an ATM. What I want to share with you is that I won't. I don't think I should have to work so hard to spend my money and will just give it to the next business who doesn't think I should. read more

I stopped in last Sunday and its a breath of fresh air from what I saw in Galena. The prices were much more fair and I saw lots of great items. They had some beautiful glasswear and serving dishes, statement piece lamps, old medical displays, odd and unusual taxidermy and tons more to list. I also had a bad experience with this place, from a crotchety old man and nasty old woman behind the counter, who I'm thinking own the business because no one in their right mind would hire this pair to operate a business. I was spending $150 and asked if they could contact the owner of the item and see if they'll come down 20%. The old man actually started yelling and carrying on, and insisted they'll give 10% and not a dime more. I wanted the item so took it anyway. Then they said it would now have to be paid for in CASH!!!! ,because that's the rule if they give you a discount. Although there wasn't a sign stating this anywhere. Something VERY fishy about a business wanting only CASH sales...... Anyway people I'm advising you to STAY AWAY until this pair is replaced with civil people who know how to treat people that are spending their hard earned money at this establishment. read more

I like Dana B recieved a unfriendly vibe from the senior citizen behind the counter. Dana sounds much younger than I am because I think I could have matched to old guy behind the counter. My husband who has never met an unfriendly person in his life (he is a social butterfly) was not detered and managed to find $129 worth of merchandise to buy. I on the other hand wojuld have left without buying anything if it had been my choice. In my lifetime I worked many years in customer sales/service and always treated my customers like the most important customer of the day, irregardless of out much they spent. They need to get their act together - there is an antique store around every corner and the door swings both ways. read more

This place has it all. I was pleasantly greeted when I walked in and throughout my hour that I spent there, there was always someone available to carry items to the counter to purchase. I especially liked the variety of goods. True antiques, primitives, vintage, collectibles, repurposed items, farm finds, architectural...you name they have it. And yes there is new items-unique items and the such!! Fun place to shop. They took cash, check or credit card. Like all antique malls if you receive a discounted price the form of payment has to be in cash or check. I am so glad I stopped there! read more
