Decent food but service is hit and miss and main restaurant gets very stuffy during warmer days.

The food was always decent but the menu didn't ever seem to change: even the "specials" were the same every time. A refurbishment was long overdue and I was interested to see how much had changed since the last time I visited. We turned up at 6:30 on a Saturday evening with no reservation. The restaurant was pretty busy because of their "family hour" promotion--20% off selected menu items between 5:00 and 6:30. They found us a table on condition that we leave at 8. No-one has ever suggested to me that I need to leave the restaurant at a given time and this seemed really unprofessional. No-one offered to take our coats until I asked if they had a cloak room. Perhaps people prefer to keep their coats with them? The room was fairly noisy because of the large number of kids. The walls are very dark, plenty of mirrors, the lighting is very low. The overall effect might be dramatic, romantic, or pretentious depending on your point of view. The lighting was so low that both my mother and my brother had trouble reading the menus. The menu is quite extensive although not very adventurous. The wine list similarly unexciting and the choice of wines by the glass is limited to red, white, or rose. I thought the food was pretty good but the service was negligent. We seem to have been seated at the "forgotten table", right by the door. It was not at all clear who was our waiter and we spoke to at least three different waiters during the course of our visit. Not bad, not great. Still plenty of room for improvement.

Nothing was too much and happiness radiated from them with an addictive vibe. I ordered the antipasti plate as my starter, which was a selection of meats with bruschetta and chopped tomatoes. The meats were a little oily, but I understand that is the traditional way, and the bruschetta was to die for. When mixed together in one mouthful it was an explosion of taste... Juicy fresh tomatoes, the bite of garlic, the crunch of bruschetta and the smooth texture of the meat. Excellent starter, highly recommended. For my main I had a dish off of the specials board which was filet steak, in peppercorn sauce, with potatoes and vegetables. The vegetable came to share with the other guest on the table and it included Brussels, green beans, carrots and onions (unfortunately I didn't get a picture quick enough). The steak was cooked perfectly to medium rare and the texture melted in my mouth like every good steak should. 100% perfect. The peppercorn sauce was creamy and also had the perfect bite of pepper. The potatoes were roasted to perfection. Also, a delicious bottle of wine, served very professionally topped off the whole meal. We had a party of 3 and everyone had a starter, a main and we ordered two beers and a bottle of wine. The total was £80 and it was worth every penny. The only downside was the noise as the walls bounced it off from every direction with the room being an open space. But you can't complain too much because it's expected for such a popular restaurant, and good on them to fill up with so many people. I hear every night is extremely full and we have previously tried to walk in another time to find that they had no tables available unless we waited quite a while. So make sure you reserve a table in advance so you don't end up disappointed. You won't regret it! Best restaurant in Cottingham right now.

We ordered two pizzas marguerita and meat feast. Both were delicious. All pizzas are 12" bases, freshly made in the way that 'proper' pizzas should be very thin! The tomato sauce was very good, & didnt drown the rest of the flavours. The cheese was very plentiful, and the meat pizza had a generous helping of pepperoni, ham and chicken. We also ordered lasagne. Oh my word, it was mouthwatering. Perfectly cooked, tender beef, a very good tomato sauce, lots of cheese! A generous portion that would easily keep two people happy, if you added side dishes Which we did standard takeaway chips that were hot and crispy, with a generous sprinking of good old chip spice. Also ordered coleslaw, which was again prretty much standard, but accompanied the main dishes very well. We collected our food on this occasion (all of above came to around £22) but Ciao do offer FREE delivery in the local area (Willerby, Kirkella, Anlaby etc) I highly recommend this place for its authentic, tasty and well priced food.
