I'm writing this review with a heavy heart. I grew up in Hubbard, Ohio, and for as long as I can remember, my family has used The Gentry for catering. It's always been a part of our family gatherings, holidays, and special occasions--especially their gentry chicken. So when I started planning my wedding reception, even though I now live in California, there was no question in my mind: I wanted Gentry chicken. Unfortunately, the experience I just had was beyond disappointing. When I called to let them know I no longer needed the pans of chicken--because the price had jumped from $85 to $150 in just two weeks--I was met with nothing but attitude. Mary Beth, the person who returned my call, had one of the worst tones I've ever experienced in customer service. No understanding, no courtesy, just condescension. I wasn't asking for a discount or arguing the increase--I simply couldn't justify the price hike and made other arrangements. But instead of professionalism or grace, I got unnecessary attitude. After decades of loyalty, this is how a longtime customer is treated? For anyone else considering catering chicken from The Gentry, I want to share this: you can get the exact same chicken--called Laura's Chicken--from Mr. D's for just $87 a pan. Same taste, drastically better price, and much better customer service. I never thought I'd say this, but after this experience, I won't be using The Gentry again. It's sad to see a place I grew up loving lose touch with its loyal customers. read more

We recently held a 60th anniversary party for our organization, and we hired The Gentry to do the catering. I worked with Mary Beth there to make all the arrangements. She is awesome! Everything was handled perfectly. They came to our site and set up the tables with tablecloths and cloth napkins. (They have many colors to choose from, so we asked for white tablecloths and napkins in different bright colors.). We were very pleased with the high quality of their food, and the service they provided to us. After the celebration was over, they packed up everything quietly and promptly. I called Mary Beth as we were interested in having our wedding reception here. We picked 3 entrees and bought the cakes from Mr. D's instead of spending a bunch of money. Mary Beth coordinated the bartender and security guard. Every single person said how good the food was, the service was excellent and Mary Beth was exceptional and answered all of our questions. We highly recommend The Gentry! We will definitely be back with family gatherings. read more

We have had the pleasure of working with Mary Beth on two important occasions, a baby shower and a wedding reception. The space was decorated beautifully both times, and the food was DELICIOUS!! The wedding reception just occurred, and, once she saw we had small children there, she called her husband, who came and played Santa Claus!:). We were told by everyone attending, to a person, that the food was delightful, the space very warm and pretty, and that they had the best time they'd had at a reception. We will ABSOLUTELY have more events here, especially considering how incredibly reasonably priced her buffets are. We can't say enough positive things about her and her wonderful staff! I've been to many catered events in my lifetime, and this place is a definite winner. It was extremely well organized, clean, tasty, well served, and efficient! This is not an easy task for a large group of hungry mourners. The food was delicious; best green beans in a long time! Not only was it good, it remained hot, not just warm, throughout the buffet line. The servers were attentive, friendly, and non-stop, answering questions, refilling beverages, and taking away used plates from tables as we continued to talk. They catered 2 events I went to and the food was delish. I will use them for any future family events I may have. I have been to various catered events and havent found any come close to the food I have had here - I was looking them up hoping they were having their fish fry this year. I'm giving them 1 star and I'm not even sure they earned that. I agree with Zena S's review about this place. I was here to attend a baby shower for my sister in law. We ate food, which was fine but nothing to really write home about, then had cake. Just as we finished our cake one of the servers came over and said "I just want to let you know that we have a funeral coming in at 2pm for this space. I'm not trying to rush you though." We were supposed to have the space from 11-2pm. I found the staff rude. We felt rushed even though she told us "not to rush" and then when we had all the gifts opened and we were just about finished up the staff brings out the bill and asks who it goes to with a room full of people. They charged us for 32 people because supposedly they put out 40plates and that's how many were missing at the end. They were not very nice in discussing the questions about the bill. I will NOT be suggesting this place to anyone and I won't be coming back. read more

First time for me at The Gentry, and I'm planning on using them for my upcoming party! All the food was delicious, the staff was attentive and pleasant, and the venue was a lovely place. Horrible service horrible food. My food was an HOUR and 10 mins late coming out. I had guest's arrive with a gift and had to leave early, and left without eating. DO NOT HAVE your event here. Disappointed is an understatement! read more

So disappointed! This place was highly recommended to me to use for a party. I called a month in advance about take out ordering. I was told call a week before you want your order. Well I called a week ahead of time my party is this Saturday and I have STILL had no return call. My party is for my daughter who is in Florida and needed to know if there was a charge for last minute cancellation. Well needless to say I had to go to plan B because these people can not call me back!! How do you run a business this way? The first time I called I had to wait as well.
