When we arrived, we had a cup of tea and some lunch in the bar. The food was lovely and extremely reasonably priced. I had a chicken ciabatta sandwich and tea which only came to €10 and the sandwich was lovely. The staff were extremely friendly and attentive. After our leisurely lunch, my friend went to have her brows done while the other two of us used the leisure facilities. Steam room, sauna, Jacuzzi, pool and all the work out equipment you could dream of. It wasn't too crowded which was also a bonus. After a few hours relaxing, we went back to the bar and sat out on their lovely patio and enjoyed a few drinks. The afternoon ran into the evening and we made our way to the hotel's restaurant for a 3 course meal, included with our stay. The minute I laid eyes on the menu, I was in heaven. Too many choices and all good choices. I opted for the mushroom risotto, sea bass and lemon tart for dessert. Everything was so perfect from the vibe and ambiance of the restaurant to the service and most of all, THE FOOD. Everyone at the table got something different and there was not a complaint in the house. We left with full bellies and a bottle of wine. After dinner we strolled back into the bar where they had a live band. Our stay was perfect and relaxing which was exactly what we were looking for. The service was spot on, the food was even better and the location was great. Only an hour and a half from Dublin and about 2 km outside of Cavan city centre, you could not ask for a better hotel or a better location. I will certainly be back for another girls weekend!

And Bellingham Castle was the chosen venue and boy it exceeded all expectations. I even got to stay here for one night and they had such a pleasant hospitality. We ended up getting the "Kevin" room, which had a balcony view of the garden and patches of greenery that stretched as far as the eye could see. The place was really peaceful and my New York State of mind was completely gone, although temporarily. I really felt like a little kid when I went on to explore the different rooms in the castle. The furnishings and designs are things you would expect to see in films. My favorite rooms were probably the Bottlery (wine room) and The Buttery (the kitchen). Their castle dog, Ri, was super adorable and roamed around as if he owns the place. Some castles can feel intimidating but this place felt very intimate and homey. If only I could live there forever....

I ate the potato mash and cabbage; the portion of each was mean. It's old folks home standard on an alright day that we queued for. I got some Cajun pepper sauce from another Bain Marie container (the gravy looked unappealing) and it's obviously not made from fresh in house - factory made maybe even a packet mix requiring no skill or food knowledge only water. The English mustard too is poor quality it's oil based, cheap and in a tube where it stayed. Just nasty rubbish served intentionally. The cappuccino is grim and for this there's no excuse either. Management may rebut my opinion and the opinion of my wife and our host but this has been our experience time and again over many years. It's been a long time since we last dined here. Very comfortable bed, soft & firm pillows, excellent shower and perfect water pressure. Nice complimentary toiletries and even had a nice hairdryer. It didn't matter how many questions we asked or how many times we bothered them , they always responded kindly and professionally. The food was quite good, but another £1 has been added to the cost (now £12) for a main course - probably to cover for the extra costs arising from Covid - and at £4.20 for a pint of Guinness and the VAT relief until January next - they might do well but price hikes are risky as customers may feel sore. A second lock down though would be disastrous. I hope now with Covid that the owners will very soon find a plumber to re - introduce hot water in the wash rooms and find an electrician to turn up the heat on the air hand driers. They might even have a word with the lady who dishes out the vegetables to be a little less mean with the portions, particularly with another quid being eked out as she's been tight fisted for a very long time now as I recall noting this in a review a year or more ago. The service was ace especially the staff who tend the tables they are all really a brilliant bunch. The servers make it 5 star, the food quality is three star, the extra £1 hasn't brought about any higher quality and the vegetable portions are two star so about 4 star on balance.

We were presenting a drink amenity and advised the bar was still open... nice touch. Our aromatherapy spray wasn't in the room. Not a huge deal, but I didn't bring any with me, since the room included it and we really liked the provided one on our last stay. The room was clean, well-appointed and spacious. Breakfast was plentiful. The croissants alone were worth the additional cost. I could have eaten them all day, every day. There is cereal, fruit, eggs, black & white pudding, ham (bacon), deli meats and cheeses, assorted breads & pastries, a gluten-free station and... did I mention the croissants? Check-out was painless. We owed a small additional amount for taxes. The gent working the desk called up to make sure we got breakfast pre-departure, when he found out we hadn't yet eaten and were flying out. On his insistence, we went up for breakfast before going to the airport. I owe him one. We would not have had time to eat. The lines were crazy. Those small touches make a huge difference and will keep us coming back. Another great stay.

The front desk manager went out of his way to make me a cup of coffee one morning as it was early and breakfast wasn't starting for a few hours. The restaurant on the 13th floor is a great breakfast venue and again the staff are very helpful- making a mocha or Americano or providing extra pancakes for my 8 year old. Rooms are big and clean and the showers are great. Anything I needed was attended to without delay. Well done and I will plan on staying here again on my next trip to Dundalk
