This is a lovely little traditional pub, old wooden tables, mismatched chairs and amusing beer related posters on the walls. It has a good atmosphere, but this has unfortunately declined rapidly since the smoking ban came into force and the number of customers seemed to halve overnight. They do pretty nice food that is very reasonably priced traditional pub fare, excellent portion sizes, but I believe now only until 5pm which can be a bit limiting if you work! Meals are still popular in there at lunchtime though and rightly so. They have a regularly changing specials board too if you fancy something a bit different. The staff are always friendly and there is often a guest ale or two to keep you occupied, but unfortunately the prices in there have been going up and up and up, quite out of proportion to the type of place it is. Whatever you do, don't order wine or a spirit and mixer in there, you'll need to remortgage. This is a real shame because the globe is one of the coolest pubs in Leicester as it's so relaxed, but now it's just pricing itself out of the market, I'd rather go to the Criterion and get my pints for nearly £1 less!!

My first impressions were not so great. I like my pubs a bit quieter than this, but then what do I…read moreexpect if I insist on going out on a weekend? My initial uncertainty soon evaporatedand not just because we managed to get a table. What an amazing selection of beers this pub has! Not just all the the Locales (local alesgeddit) that you can get from the pump, but also the amazing blurred selection of bottles in the fridges (the blurring, my own fault for being too vain to wear my glasses out on a Saturday nightI'll have to come back with them on) and perry (called perry) on tap. They even have my favourite smoked beerbut were out of it during my visit. Luckily there were many other as yet untried options for me to consider. I had a couple of very decent ales. I didn't realize that this pub had received so many CAMRA awards until I was actually sitting there, enjoying my pint and reading the local CAMRA pamphlet. Good work, because the pub doesn't look like much from the outside. Dodgy, ugly, wornare all adjectives I could imagine being used to describe its external appearance, but then appearances can most definitely be deceptive. There are a couple of separate bar rooms and a small outside area (very empty in the driving rain that night). The do gigs here too.

Real ale pub aficionados in leicester need search no further. This place has 6 on every night…read more(mostly) and the owner knows how to treat his beer with care and attention. Miss it at your peril.
