The lobster roll at this place is huge and delicious! I highly recommend the Big Bang shrimp where it's friend and lightly coated with honey. I will definitely get these two dishes again when I return. The tuna tartare poke bowl did not live up to my expectations as it was just rice, Aurugula, cucumber, beans and some seaweed salad, tuna tossed together in a bowl $18 and I personally would not get it again. It should be noted that the Gloucester House is closed during the summer months for indoor dining and operates outside as Blue Collar Lobster on the adjacent dock. I am giving it 4 stars because of the amazing clam chowder! I actually got it there 2 days in a row because it was so good. I opted for the cold lobster roll, which was loaded with lobster meat and lightly dressed with mayo, but unfortunately lacked flavor/seasoning and I was continually adding salt & pepper. The lobster roll was served with French fries, which were crisp and delicious. It was probably due to the fact that I ordered a cup of their rich and creamy New England clam chowder that caused me to not be able to finish the $40 lobster roll, but I don't regret getting that delicious chowder. There is a rented area with tables for shade as well as high top tables with umbrellas. Parking is at one of the 3 lots next door where you pay to park. During the summer months the lots fill up quick and the lunch line can be long, but moves quickly. I would definitely return the next time I am in Gloucester. read more

You sit wherever you want to...and there is tons of seating, inside and out. Waterfront seating. Before we arrived I was thinking lobster salad over greens. When I saw the prices for the whole steamed lobsters...I quickly changed gear! Market price, whole steamed lobsters here are sold by the count. Steamed, dressed, finished with lemon and melted butter. Prices were as follows: Single (about 1 and 1/4 pound: $25 Double: $40 (additional for 15) Triple: $50 (additional for 10) Quad: $60 (additional for 10)...that works out to just $15 a lobster! Lobster roll $40 Lobster salad $40! Sides of fresh raw oysters, corn chowder, corn, other sides available. And super delicious. We stopped in on a Sunday. The place was packed! They have live bands on Sunday's that play in the back bar area. It's huge and was packed. The noise level being a full house and the band was at "yell to the person across the table". The on tap margueritas were pretty good. I do have family I was visiting and they said it's not usually soooo busy. There's two separate bar areas an outdoor area and covered porches. So, you can find a quieter spot and we fid. First time at Blue Collar was a pleasant experience. Went for lunch on a Monday mid-noon with visiting family from Texas that wanted to experience a typical New England meal. The lady that took our order explained that meals were ala-carte but sandwiches came with chips. We ordered twin 1 1/4 lb steamed lobsters, hotdogs for the kids, clam chowder, side of fries and onion rings. The lobsters were fresh and tasty when dipped in melted butter. After our whale watching excursion, we wanted to check out a local seafood spot. My cousin decided that we would try Blue Collar. It was nearby, by the water, and had outdoor seating. The menu had good options. I really wanted fried shrimp, and figured you couldn't go wrong with it. The service was quick and efficient. The seating area was nice as well and right by the water. We were able to order and get our food rather quickly. We were all really disappointed with the food. The fish was fresh, but the batter on the shrimp and onion rings was so bland...absolutely no flavor whatsoever. Not even salt! The coleslaw and fries were just as bad, unfortunately. Probably one of the top 10 places I've ever dined! I'm a lover of seafood, but a Midwest dweller, so it's not often I get to enjoy fresh lobster. Blue Collar is as fresh as you can get - fishing boats literally pull up and unload right into the restaurant. The outdoor area has a tiki-ish vibe, with picnic tables, umbrellas, and a great view of the water. We went as soon as we arrived on Gloucster, on a Saturday night, and there was live music outside. You can order food outside, but they only have beer. We went inside to the bar to order cocktails. Once back outside, we ordered whole lobsters, peel and eat shrimp, and oysters. Best. Oysters. I've ever had. Period. Our experience was so amazing, we went back the next day (before a dinner reservation somewhere else) for more oysters and shrimp. We ended up at Blue Collar by default when our first choice couldn't accommodate our large party. This was a total win for all. It was early on a holiday Monday and they were just starting to get busy. We had 13 people in our group including six kids. It is walk up service and you order from the window and pickup from the same. Seating is first come first serve but we managed to get three high tops to fit us all which was amazing. They have a waitress that took drink orders from the bar but the food is a window service strictly. Menu is mostly seafood but they did have chicken fingers for the kids. The food comes quick and is super fresh and delicious. I ordered the Bing Bang shrimp and it was a good portion and super tasty with a nice mix of sweet and spice. Also ordered a dozen of the raw oysters that were Briny, big and super clean. My wife got the fried clams which were full belly clams cooked perfectly and served with fries. By 1pm the line was super long but they were moving people through at a good pace. Ice cold beers from the bar as well as great scenery of the water added to the experience. Off street parking was key because the town can be busy this time of year. Prices were a bit on higher side but well worth it for quality and quantity. TL;DR: food is five stars, removed a star due to service Food: we ordered 4 raw oysters ($2.50 each), a hot lobster roll (my first ever! $37), blackened haddock tacos ($17), and a pint of clam chowder ($10) for two people to split. It was a lot of food for ~$80, but delicious! Oysters were sweet and fresh, lobster chunks were plentiful and also sweet / buttery. The blackened haddock was seasoned well, the filet of fish was huge, and the tortilla shell held out and didn't fall apart even though it was eaten last. It also came with guacamole, sour cream, and an orange sauce that was slightly spicy. The clam chowder was creamy and slightly salty thanks to the bacon. While the food is delicious, there are no substitutes for dishes that include fries. Service: Orders are placed at one window and picked up at another window. Tables are self serve and you clear the table yourself into trash, food compost, and recyclable bins. The older woman taking our order was abrupt and seemed like she was laughing at us with a coworker when the credit card was removed too early (though we only did so because we heard her say to remove it even though the screen didn't look like it was done). Disappointed to be made felt unwelcome as Asian Americans in 2021 and to feel singled out. Location / environment: Tucked away behind another restaurant and business, but signage is visible from the street. Free parking was a nice perk to find! Outdoor dining was plentiful and tables turned over at a good pace such that around 1:20p there was enough seating still. The bacon in the chowder really made a difference. Nothing really stood out from the Fisherman's platter, it was crispy and hot though, and we dipped it in Tartar sauce. Despite it being walk up service, it is not inexpensive by any means. You are paying for the dockside ambience. A lobster at $25, was more expensive than at Roy Moore's, and Roy throws in the cole slaw, which we purchased separately here. But it was the fried clams - whole clams with bellies -- that broke the bank at $45. I think the high price was due to the environmental factors at present, but still. I might have abstained, but as a New Yorker, I cannot visit New England without this indulgence - for some reason proper fried clams do not make it west of New Haven. Blue Collar's were beauties, but the portion size was somewhat disappointing as they arrived on a mound of french fries. Good fries though they were. read more
