Like many community pubs it doesn't look like much from outside, but the place is fairly elaborate and its rough, dark wood décor exudes the atmosphere of real local history. The range of hand-pumped real ales is far above average for St. Ives, and unlike many other establishments in the town it is not affiliated with or owned by St. Austell Brewery. As a result the beer selection offers real variety. They offer live music events on a regular basis, and it is one of those places where locals and tourists mix. Recommended.

This is a pleasant little pub on the edge of the centre of St Ives. The pub serves a couple of real ales and is one of the few places in St Ives that has Sky Sports, so it is useful if you want to catch the sport. They serve foodand have a lot of choice including a take away pizza option. I'm afraid I'm not sure how good the food is. I have only sampled the carvery on Sundays and I'm not a big fan of carveries (is that the plural? AnywayI was with my familysometimes you have to bite the bulletor in this case copious amounts of meat). I would expect it to be quite good though. I will come here sometimes in winter or if I am watching sport, but the pub is very child friendly. In a place like St Ives with lots of holidaymakers people often have to bring their children to the pub if they want to go out. This can mean a few too many kids to bear..especially if you enjoy a quiet pint like I do.

Popular with locals and holidaymakers alike. Owners are nice, but not overly friendly despite eating and drinking in there normally every day during our holidays in St ives. Can be very busy in there, especially in high season, but not as busy as other places in town. Bar staff will do their best to accomodate you even if all the tables are showing a reserved sign. Well worth asking. Staff have no problem with children. I would recommend it, and can't wait to go in a few weeks time.

Luckily we were sat right under the specials board from that I instantly chose the fried haggis and then a ox cheek dish to follow. I also decided to sample a fire side cocktail which packed a punch of tequila. The fried haggis was sublime with it poached egg and was the perfect amount for a starter. Cream spinach was ordered to accompany my ox cheeks which turned out to be so tender! However it was so rich with the red wine sauce and mash that i struggled to finish. To complete the meal I opened the gin menu which was extensive. My friend had one that changed colour where I got a sake based one. Each one was carefully presented with delicate fruits .. That was annoying, but they've got a vibe here that makes it a pleasant place to hang out. Great location on the Wharf. Worth checking out, especially if coming in just for drinks on the pub side.

They instantly recognised that the ham had gone off and after my own research on the internet, I found a source also saying " If your meat is turning an unhealthy green, gray, or black colour that's a sure sign it's gone bad". Since they were too shy and polite to say anything, I told the barman/waiter about the problem. He then came to our table and offered another cut from the same piece of ham. Naturally, not wanting bad bellies, my mum and aunt refused. The barman then walked away and did not speak to us again during the whole time. We received no apology at all and were not offered anything else or even a partial refund. Not a word was said to us even as we left. This was our only meal out for our holiday here and we were really looking forward to it. We were mostly disappointed that we did not even receive an apology and there was no compassion at all. My best recommendation to all would be to AVOID this pub. However if you are happy with a bit of gone-off food and no compassion or understanding from the staff, this may be the pub for you! (Or perhaps not). I'm sure that this lack of compassion will be followed up via a comment from management, especially given the other comments given back on other customers' reviews.

We were starving and waited for a table for ages before being told the policy is to order the food - then you get a table. Very weird and non-standard, but the food I had made up for the wait. I had the lamb shank and my other half had the sausage and mash. The lamb was super tender and fell off the bone. The mash was ok - but the red wine sauce made up for it, and the veg was fresh. Tried a bit of the sausages and they were very tasty as well. Enjoyed dinner and ambiance here, would stop in again.

During day sessions we'd play on their pool table and at nights they have live bands on. In them days if you seven balled someone on the pool table you could have your name immortalised on the back of a tortoise and kept in a display case - they'd ran out of tortoises when I did it! The people who owned it then were very nice and the decor was very nice but filled with sport pictures and photos of staff and locals - and we happily wiled away the hours soaking it all in. Back again in 1997 and have some good memories in there from then also. Situated near the town centre it's quite convenient to pop in for a quick one - maybe when your missus pops into Boots over the road. People always flock to The Sloop because of the harbour views but it's always packed there and you can only just see the beach and harbour from there if you look through the throngs of turists and passed the big line of bins - better to pop in to The Queens for a more relaxing pint. I still go to St Ives alot but am not allowed to frequent the place as much now as we have kids but it's a lovely building and they always have nice flower boxes on the windows and special food boards on for lunches etc. Think I'll put my foot down and pay it a visit next time I'm passing.

Perhaps before advertising the match? I wish you could return your partially drunk pint for a full refund in such situations. It was often the emptiest bar to be found in the centre of St Ives. So expect this pub to be busy throughout the day and into the evenings, and not just during the summer months. If you intend to eat there with a group of friends of family in the evening, a reservation is surely in order. As a single traveller you should always be able to secure a spot. The food is superior grub, and the menu streamlined as The Lifeboat Inn is part of a chain. However, on the upside you'll know what to expect.

It is not a complicated drink so don't understand why they would say that unless they don't want you watching when they put it together. It has TWO ingredients?! Secondly when it came I was confused because I only got about half a glass of sparkling wine - could have had Chambord added or could have been rose sparkling wine. Who knows. We paid £9 for half a glass of wine which, as I said above, was a rip-off and certainly NOT worth £9. I won't be going back. Ever - you are paying over the odds for the view. I can have the view anytime I want and I don't need to ever pay £9 for half a glass of wine.
