DRINKIES I LOVE Good Spirits Co...I've bought MANY pressies in there and a couple of things for myself!! ;) I went with my friend today, she was buying a present for her Mum...I remembered there was a check in deal, so I asked about it and the guy didn't know if it was still running...then he came over and I was given a lovely pressie! (See piccie!!) FREE!! He's now joined Yelp for the check in deals! Lol The service is always friendly and extremely helpful...the guys that work in there are very knowledgeable about their products, always good!! I'm noooot a big drinker, but I LOOOVE getting nifty gifties in there, and their selection is second to none in Glasgow! I'd DEFINITELY recommend (have done so!!) Great wee shop!! Ps. I know they're opening a second show around the corner soon-so EVEN MORE choice en route!!

I've been here many times but never felt like I'd actually participated in the customer experience of buying booze (I know, what restraint!) so hadn't popped up a review. But now I am a fully fledged customer of Good Spirits! I phoned to ask them about a particular cocktail I wanted to make but had little knowledge of, and wasn't sure which recipe to use from the 362,000 hits on google (if you can deduce the cocktail from that, you will receive some kind of amazing prize!) The guy on the end of the phone didn't laugh at my terrible pronunciation and confirmed they had the more unusual spirits I was looking for. I popped in later that day and was warmly greeted by a young guy (younger than me, anyway) who grabbed the spirits I needed and talked me through some options. He was even nice enough to write down the recipe for me, which he knew off the top of his head (he must be some kind of wizard!) I then decided to grab a little something for my husband as a gift, and again, the guy talked me through the rum options and explained the origins of a few. I went with one from Barbados seeing as that's where Mount Gay is from and even though it's not been opened yet, I know I picked a winner from the tears in my husband's eyes (ok, I made that part up). As you can see - service is second to none here. If you're like me, and don't know anything about how to make a cocktail because you spent too long drinking them, then you'll be well looked after. I wasn't made to feel stupid at any point, and the bill was pretty reasonable for 4 bottles of spirit. I am too often guilty of going for the easy option when buying booze (read: supermarket) but from now on I'll be looking to support these guys as much as I can. Tip: they can also refund bottles provided they aren't opened (obviously) if you find you've got the wrong thing!

The shop and its staff are a welcome change from the Victoria Wines and stack-em-high-sell-em-buckie offies of this world. It's not a place to buy bargain vodka and tooth-coating cola to drink in the park. It *is* a place to pick up a special bottle (or 3) for the discerning gin/whisky/rum-fiend in your life, and if that gin/whisky/rum fiend is yourself then all the better. A particular favourite are the tasting evenings, held on a regular basis in the tasting room at the back of the shop. These cost roundabout £10-£15 per session dependant upon the spirit, for which you get a couple of hours good chat, 6 or so samples, and usually some sort of discount on any bottles you buy of those samples you tasted. Good move. I swear to god though, the staff must have High Fidelity-esque "I will now sell 6 bottles of" competitions. and they're good at it too...

Let me state, for the record, that gin is my One True Love. Over the last few years I have transitioned from vodka and coke to gin and tonic to gin martini to building a gin lounge in my spare room, and there's only one place I would trust to provide me with the best quality spirits to stock it. That place is the Good Spirits Co. The store opened in the early summer of 2011 in a unit previously inhabited by 23rd Precinct. Tucked under Bath Street, the Former record shop has been transformed into a bright and inviting space, lined floor to ceiling with the best quality booze in town. Shelves to the left glow amber with whiskies, rum and cognac, and to the right behind the till you will find gin, vodka, tequila, cachaca and an intriguing selection of mysteriously labelled and coloured spirits, bitters and liqueurs that will no doubt bring out the latent Jerry Thomas in you. They also stock a neat range of beer, champagnes, and fortified wine (although I'm sure that this will grow once their new venture is up and running) and towards the back of the store is a walk in humidor. And then there's the tasting room. I don't remember my first visit to the GSC tasting room. This is no surprise because, as I recently tweeted, I never leave GSC entirely sober. Most times I bound up the stairs, new gin tucked under my arm, burnished with a tipsy gin glow. I have enjoyed many tastings here, most of them led by Matthew, who I must thank for always being eternally patient and gracious as I witter and enthuse and babble my way through each tasting. What a gentleman. Most of the tastings take the same shape- six gins, a cocktail, some tonic, some gin chat, some oatcakes, some purchases. And despite styling myself as somewhat if a gin expert, I always come away having learnt or tried or appreciated something new. The tastings are undoubtedly my favourite way to spend an evening in Glasgow. I have been with my husband, my friends, as a group, and as part of my hen do, and I never tire of it. For my hen my friend arranged a mid-afternoon private tasting led by Matthew with cocktails made by Aidan Bowie, then of the Blythswood, now of the Mondrian. On paper, an elegant affair. In reality...well, I'll let you judge by the photos, put together by my friend Miki, and perhaps you'll see why I consider Matthew to be such a gracious individual. In conclusion, my advice is simple. Visit the Good Spirits Co. Their knowledge in their field is unsurpassed, they are eternally patient and kind, they listen to the needs of their customers, and they're bloody lovely.

Almost a whole wall of whisky! (Some Rum sneaks in at the end!)

Fun fact: in Australia, we call them a bottle-o and there are even drive through ones. Anyway. This one is a typical Oddbins with its kind of rustic style and interesting selections. Sadly I picked poorly in my rosé as it wasn't the nicest but I don't blame Oddbins for that. They had a good beer range and I picked up some Fyne Ales Jarl & Sanda Blonde. All up it came to £17 which I was pretty happy with and the guy working was friendly and chatty. This is in a handy spot just off the motorway or if you're heading out for dinner around the area. While I wouldn't go out of my way to return here I would definitely pop in if I was in the area.

The also don't really do cheap bottles - nothing under the £6 or £7 mark but I'm happy to buy something in that price bracket anyway. They have a good selection of beers, ales and ciders, with a fair view available already chilling in the fridge. The staff have always been lovely and super helpful when I've been in, helping me choose items including a rather fab malt whisky for a presents. You can also pick up a small selection of crisps etc to eat with your carry out!

I'm already a massive fan of what Good Spirits do at their original location so it's great to see them expanding. This shop is quite small but they've managed to fit in a huge range of interesting beers and wines. I wasn't after anything particular so just did a bit of a random swoop of the store and grabbed 3 beers and a cider which came to about £10 which is totally reasonable. I'll definitely be back next time I'm in the city centre looking for some good beers as I can't think of any other great beer shop like this in town. Win.

Everything…read moreelse is exactly what I would hope for but I am disorganised and lazy and I've arrived at it's doors ten minutes too late too many times. I've been successful in arriving on time on two occasions. For the first I needed a bottle of wine. I like wine, but I don't really know much about it and my usual approach is to buy whatever's cheap-ish or on offer at the supermarket. On this occasion I decided to splash out and picked up a bottle of red for £13. Shock horror - I could have had three bottles for that price in Lidl! It turned out to be a mistake, not because the wine was unpleasant, quite the opposite. It turns out that expensive wine can be really, really good. So now I know I like expensive wine... which could be problematic. On the second occasion I needed beer. I chose three different bottles, based mostly on the fact that I liked the labels. The gentleman running the cash register grinned knowingly at me and informed me that I'd chosen three of his favourite beers. Good to know and, as it turns out, he and I have very similar tastes. He was also kind enough to help my partner choose a couple based on other beers my partner likes. Apparently they were also pretty great. There are a few good beer and wine shops in Glasgow now, but the city centre did need one quite badly and Good Spirits Wine & Beer has solved that problem perfectly.
