We visited The Great Escape Room for a fun escape room date night and ended up staying for two games- Haunted Hotel and President's Bunker! This escape room is located in Downtown Orlando, so you will likely need to pay to park. It's located up a steep flight of stairs, so accessibility may be an issue. There's a waiting area with a couple of couches and some small warm up games if you have a few minutes to kill before your game starts, as well as a bathroom if needed. Overall, it's a small space but the escape rooms really make the most of the area. Our game master, Rule, was very helpful and made our experience even more enjoyable. Our favorite of the two rooms we played was Haunted Hotel, and we're looking forward to coming back to play Mountain Top. read more

We came to The Great Escape room on 7-27-19 with a group of five. I guess they can accommodate groups as large as 14! We had a great time finding our way out of the Moriarty's Game room (beginner level). Alyssa was our guide and she was wonderful. This was my first time going to an escape room and it was a blast but more difficult than expected. Definitely a group effort and be sure to go with people you get along with. What a GREAT experience!!!! I'm a big fan of Sherlock and mystery movies, so I was stoked to get into the locked room and figure my way out. We were a group of 10 individuals, most of whom had never met before. In the end we did manage did get out (we were the first group to be able to escape in the 1 hour allotted time!) and more importantly, we got to work as a team. I'm going to try and not give anything away, but suffice it to say this would be a FABULOUS team building exercise for a work retreat. Things I LOVED: - Working with people of all backgrounds whom I would probably never have had a chance to talk to, let alone work alongside. Also, ages ranged from 19 - 32 and I'm sure it will get even more diverse as more people find out about it. - The location is KEY! It is at 23 1/2 Magnolia (very Sherlock-esque) and is located in Downtown Orlando as opposed to I-Drive or some equally touristy area. Downtown Orlando is packed and it's wonderful and encouraging to see unusual businesses like this one popping up in neat little spots around the city. - How much ridiculous fun this was! I haven't had a night where I just let go and felt like a giddy kid in a long time and this was one of those nights! - I LOVE how open the team is to feedback after the challenge- they have you rate your experience and ask for any suggestions you may have. A few suggestions I would make to enhance an already awesome experience: - Have all of the staff dressed in something specific- possibly all black? And have them in character throughout the challenge. - Include a reason why we need to get out of the room (there might have been a reason, but the intro recording malfunctioned for our group). Maybe there's a bomb in the room that will go off in an hour? Maybe zombies are banging against the door, slowly breaking their way in (as suggested by one of my team members tonight!)? This would add a heightened sense of urgency and would feel more like we're in a real life movie. I can't wait until there are more rooms so that I can go back. BUT, in the meantime, I'll be recommending this to ALL of my friends!! read more

Had a fun experience here with a group of five friends but not sure this type of game is for me. Would like to try a The Great Escape Room again maybe at a time when I am more relaxed, like a Saturday night. I really appreciate the staff staying with us in the room and guiding our group through the rules and instructions. The staff was great! I spent most of my time at the event room trying to solve a visual puzzle and I think I missed out on some of the more fun activities, like collecting clues everywhere, and I mean *everywhere*. Don't be shy when looking for clues! Overall this was a positive experience, but here are some suggestions: I feel like the room is a little low tech and hopefully over time the owners will be able to make it look a little more professional and grown up. My first impression when entering the room was that I felt like I was in an elementary classroom setting, so it didn't quite meet my mental expectations of what the challenge would look like. I think some mood lighting in the room and hallway areas would help make it feel like an atmosphere where guests are getting ready to embark on a mysterious quest. There needs to be a theme or more atmosphere to get the guests into the mood to "escape". Overall I liked it and I would try it again, just think a bigger group would be better (we had five) to find all the clues and interact for more teamwork. This was a fun challenge to try and our group almost made it out of the room in time. The staff took some fun photos of our group at the end and there were cute props provided for photos. I took my nephews to the Great Escape Room as a last minute trip a year ago around Thanksgiving. The 3 of us joined a family of 4 in The President's Bunker. It's always a challenge when you're working with people you don't know, and they were kinda set on working within their family. However, The President's Bunker is designed for large groups with multiple puzzles being completed simultaneously. Even though we didn't all work together directly, we escaped the room working together indirectly in a "divide-and-conquer" manner. Overall, the puzzles were pretty good. One of the employees was in the room the entire time, which was a first for us. This does change the dynamic of the game because he was watching each of us at different points and offering subtle hints. I suppose it is difficult to simply be a wallflower when you see others struggle. My nephews and I did consider that the room could have been more challenging in a fun way had he not gratuitously offered minor clues, though. Would we return to The Great Escape Room to try other rooms? Absolutely. Even if this wasn't my favourite escape room experience, I'm sure the other rooms here have better flow. read more

This was such an amazing time !!! I highly recommend this for groups of students, co workers, friends, date night, basically for anybody!! You get an hour to try and solve your way out of the room that your locked in. We were a large group, 11 of us, so we got the pleasure to try the library which is their hardest room. Apparently only 19% have escaped it, sadly we did not escape but we were so close!! The puzzles were very challenging and worth while! The instructions were great throughout the whole game, they have an employee in the room with you who you can ask for clues if you find specific items. Overall such an amazing time!!! The person in charge of monitoring the room, and the people in it, during the game has clues also, and the group collectively gets three free clues of they choose to use them. This was super helpful because there were a couple parts of the game we just couldn't figure out and there was one clue we couldn't find in the room. Only about 20% of groups make it out of the room before the sixty minutes is up! & we made it!!! But, don't ask me where the clues are because I will never tell! I have to be honest with my review. This was room 46 for me. The employees were super cool and welcoming. The problem was the room. Decoration was on point but mechanical issues ruined the game. I decided to write this review because I believe that is the responsibility of the Game Master. The GM needs to make sure that everything is in working order "or" activate remotely the "props" if there is a technical hiccup. After an extended period of time trying to figure out what we need to do next, the team decided to ask for a clue. It was at that time that the Game Master realized that a door didn't opened. Door was opened remotely but plenty of time was wasted. Then it happened again with a phone without a tone. To be fair the second failure was corrected after a minute or two. We pay for the experience and malfunctions like these ruins the experience and kills the room flow. We played many rooms before. This is definitely not the first room to have mechanical failure BUT good room monitoring can mitigate the impact of the game. A good host identifies these issues and remotely triggers the necessary reactions. It's a shame because it was good room with smart and logic puzzles. It added a really cool element to our adventure! We did the Infirmary & it was fantastic. $32 is a bit steep, but it's worth the 1-1.5 hours. They have water & candy in the waiting room, which you can bring into the Escape room. There are also fun props to play w/in the waiting room. Come 15 min early because you have to sign a waiver, and it takes a few extra min to load on the tablets. I think it's more fun if you get a group of friends together, but it still could be fun w/just two or random people if they sign up for your room. The Escape room space is a lot larger than what you would think, but the rooms get hot after a few min w/so many people in it. There is a steep flight of stairs to climb to get to the waiting room. Bonus points for the location being wedged between Harp & Celt and Magnolia bar. You are literally flanked by bars (Harp & Celt also has food). You can have a celebratory (hopefully) or pity drink afterwards. hahaha Would I do it again? Yes. Would I do it every month? No. I would spend my $32 on food & booze. This was a rather unique experience even with not being a puzzle and problem solving person. I came here with 4 girlfriends on a rainy Friday evening...It's a rather nondescript location..no big, flashing signs. But it is next to an Irish bar if that helps you. When you walk in, there are a set of stairs that lead you upstairs to the set of rooms. We were invited to play some ping pong to help relax and loosen up. They had some snacks sitting out that they offered but it looked kinda picked over. We were given nametags to wear and filled out liability agreements. As far as the Great Escape Room goes, we all placed our purses and belongings in a bin as we walked into the room since phones were not allowed. We listened to a prerecorded tape welcoming us along with general instructions. Once the tape was finished, the timer was set for an hour so that 4 puzzles could be solved which also involved searching and finding clues. We were so timid at first but eventually took the moderators' advice(there are 2 in the room with you) and really took things apart! In a nutshell, it was a cool thing to do but my strength was definitely more along the lines of searching and finding clues since I'm not a puzzle person. With only 5 girls total, our moderators did say we were one of the fastest and closest to finish. I did like that the moderators were inside with us to kind of guide and provide clues. I do think that they should have rooms with different difficulty levels: easy, medium and hard. Maybe prizes for those who "escape" the difficult room within an hour? After our hour was up, we got to take fun photos with signs and props so that was cool. I did like that they invited us to give our feedback to help improve the experience and to let them know what their strengths were. Overall, friendly moderators and fun experience. Just finished my second game with the Great Escape Room and I have to say this is my type of entertainment. I LOVE solving puzzles and I LOVE games so I was super excited when they started bringing these types of games to USA (these are very popular in Europe!) It's also a great team building exercise for co-workers, family and friends. You find out people's strengths and weaknesses very quickly. The puzzles aren't easy so try and have a big group with you. Make sure you have people that are good at math! lol The only down side is that there are only two rooms offered right now and it doesn't look like they have much room for growth in the future. I have to say I've been here twice, and did not really enjoy either experience at The Great Escape Room. Such a disappointment, too, because I love escape rooms. First, I love the location, and that there are several options for challenges. It's a really cute space and set up. But I have to be honest, the rooms I chose on both locations were so friggin' difficult they weren't even fun. In fact, I have a hard believing anyone ever solves all of the clues in under an hour. I've been to other escape rooms in Orlando, and while challenging they are still entertaining. This was not. It was seriously so difficult that even after the full hour and we didn't complete, the hostess spent 20 minutes walking us through the remainder. Seriously? I typically will give anything two shots (restaurant, service, shop, etc.), but I think this last time will definitely be my last time. I went with a friend on a saturday night and had a blast. Lost one star because of location and there only being two (2) rooms to choose from. About the location: It may be hard to find, so give yourself plenty of time to find the right door. Since its in an unassuming location, there are no signs to point you in the right direction. The bar next door will tell which door to go through. We had fun in that we were with a family of 7 and worked well with each other. Imagine 9 people turning a room completely upside-down and trying to figure out clues, puzzle, and codes. The hour truly goes by REALLY fast. Since we've done the first mystery room, I want to do the 2nd room. I hope they'll come up with another room, as I'm now determined to get all the clues and ESCAPE! Customer service at the Great Escape Room was on point. Melinda was our Surgical Assistant for our room and was nice and helpful as well. We nearly escaped (we needed just 1 more minute)! Where I give this only 3 stars is the very big difference between other escape rooms in the area. This is the only one I have been to where the employee is sitting in the corner of the room with you to give you hints. It's the only one where we've been locked in a single room (usually it's room after room after room). It's the only one that had color coding to tell you what pieces went with what puzzle. Having to do that made it seem like the puzzles wouldn't make logical sense on their own, you had to know "this is part of the red puzzle, which must be solved before the pink puzzle", etc. to get through it. There were puzzle pieces that were a bit of a stretch and one that was just really, really time consuming to piece out and put together. The room we were in was pretty small for 8 people + an employee, you couldn't move without stepping on one another. Some of the items were tiny and hidden very, very well, so much so that even when we found them we didn't realize it was something that was a part of a puzzle. It's in an easy to get to location Downtown, so it makes it easy to go before/after heading out to a restaurant/bar/club too. read more

I absolutely love going to escape rooms, so my friends and I decided to give The Great Escape Room a try! The only room that was available when we went to book online was The Infirmary, which is an 18% escape rate, so the four of us knew what we were up against. The location is a little difficult to find because you have to park in the parking garage, since it's downtown Orlando and then you have to locate the door in one of the buildings which then takes you up a flight of stairs to where the escape rooms are located. The staff was very friendly and the set-up outside the escape rooms was nice as well. Although we did not escape The Infirmary, my friends and I had an absolute blast! The room was very well designed with some cool gadgets. Throughout my experiences with many escape rooms at different places, I admit that I do not like having one of the attendants inside the room with us - I prefer having a game-master either phone us or write on a screen when we need a clue or help. I feel like when the attendant is in the room with us, it's a little awkward and when we ask for a clue, it takes too long to explain and time is of the essence! If you are like me and prefer the attendant not in the room, then you may want to think twice about choosing The Great Escape Room for your next adventure. It is just a personal preference for me, but nonetheless I had a blast and am glad that the attendant let us finish the escape room (since we were so close to finishing), even though our time was up! read more

Super fun! My group unfortunately did not "escape"- we were so close, but just ran out of time. We did solve each puzzle though. This would be a great team-building or birthday outing, the more people the better. Maybe. I wonder if we had more people if we would have solved it sooner or if it would've just been more chaotic. But you should try to go with a group, although they will put you with others who book for the same time if you can't get a gang together. I don't want to give too much away, so I will keep this very basic. The session is an hour long. You are required to show up early so they can get you set up. While you wait you are in a lobby area with a ping pong table, so you can mentally exercise for the game. For those with fears of being locked in a room for that long- it is a large, well-lit room, and you are with two staffers who kinda supervise and give clues. They really encourage you to tear the room apart while you look for clues for your puzzles. Our group was very timid at first, but once we got the hang of it, we started ripping things apart. This was such an exciting experience from the click of the door lock to the actual escape itself! I almost didn't get to go due to scheduling, but I knew I needed to make time for this unique activity! I arrived a little before my registered time and I was already one of the last ones to arrive in my slot. Everyone else was surrounding the ping pong table while my bf and I checked in and signed waivers. Once the last of my group arrived, the fun began! We walked into the room and once we were all inside, then the hostess locked the door behind us. As I stared bewilderingly at my surroundings; rules were being dictated. Only when I realized the game was starting did I ask questions about what were we doing. Yep, I was that person. LOL! Anyway, once the timer started our group of 10 started rummaging for clues. I really enjoyed the feeling of making a mess to find a clue without the pending duty of cleanup! As time wore on, people naturally gravitated toward the puzzles that they were drawn to. Side note, no matter how insane an idea, theory, or suggestion; just try it out! In the end, my group was able to escape with minutes to spare. Talk about a close call! I really enjoyed my time here. It definitely was a great date activity too! My bf is really great at puzzles and games so this was up his alley. My only slight concerns were the price and cleanliness. $30 p/p is pretty hefty; thank goodness for my coupon! My other issue was some areas of the room were pretty dusty. If I didn't have friends already there and on the phone with me, I probably never would have found it. And walking up the stairs and sitting in the basic waiting room with a ping pong table, I kind of wondered if it would live up to what I was expecting. It totally did! Basically, you get locked in this room for 1 hour. There are several different puzzles you have to figure out and clues to find. It was tough. You can have groups of up to 10 people but my group only had 5. Sadly, we didn't make it out in time (although we were soooo close! We kinda figured it out right after). I think having 10 people would help since you would have more people helping, although one friend said that might make it too hectic. I love love love doing puzzles so this was right up my alley. The guides helping us were super nice and helpful without giving anything away. I thought it would be awkward with them in there with us but I ended up being really glad that they were end there.
