Graham came to my house and immediately came up with a solution to a significant outdoor dilemma. (I am a designer and couldn't figure it out)! Graham drew the design on the spot and presented it to me as an option. I couldn't believe it. He then scheduled me in with his crew and they were on time, thorough and efficient. This review is incredibly delayed but I wanted to make sure to praise the work that Graham and rest of the staff of the Great Outdoors did. This is the second time that we have used the company and both of our experiences were fantastic. For the first project, they installed several wooden retaining walls around the front of our property. The work was done quickly and affordably, and the quality was excellent. The walls are still in great shape several years later. Last summer (2016) we hired the Great Outdoors to install a new flagstone patio and stone retaining wall around the back and side of our home. We were somewhat hesitant to commit to the project because the work would be so extensive but Graham took the time to meet with us, answer our questions, and provide suggestions on what could be done to improve the existing space while still keeping the cost within our budget. In addition to the patio, they also made some alterations to our front walk to accommodate a nearby tree. The walk is now safer and the tree was undisturbed. As with the first project, they were very efficient, completing the project in just under a week, and did a wonderful job. As a result of this project, my wife and I now spend considerably more time enjoying our backyard. On a side note, all of the staff for the Great Outdoors are incredibly friendly and polite, making them enjoyable to work with. The company also has an ecological mentality to their work, trying to utilize local plants in their landscaping, which was appealing to my wife and me. We had a great experience with Graham and his crew who removed numerous 30 year old junipers with deep and tangled branches and replaced with new. They also removed other shrubs, did extensive pruning and installed topsoil, mulch and grass seed. Our yard looks lovely! Graham was prompt in scheduling and delivery of both the estimate and services. He is professional and knowledgeable and works well with his crew. Great Outdoors designed landscaping for the front and rear of our home. Graham asked us to complete a questionnaire so he could get a sense of what we wanted, what our goals were, etc. He then presented us with a design which incorporated some of the existing plantings, such as large trees. We reviewed the design with him to ensure that we would be getting what we want. This was a big job which included installation of a slate patio, slate walkway, stone steps, raised beds for vegetables, as well as planting of shrubs, perennials and trees. The results are amazing - I only wish we had taken "before" pictures so we could remember what it used to look like. The old landscaping was about 10 years old and was overgrown and unattractive. The new design incorporates all the requests we had, such as deer and drought resistant plantings. Graham and his crew dug up and removed the old shrubbery and installed the new items per the plan. We requested a change to the design once they were underway which he accommodated without issue. His team was courteous, professional and hard-working. Since the installation was completed neighbors have stopped by to comment on how great everything looks - and what an improvement it is over the old plantings. read more

Great Outdoors completed a major foundational landscape project for me, including design and build of retaining walls, landscape design, fence, trees and shrubs installation. Graham and his crew were always on time, kept their worksite orderly and cleaned up at the end of the day. They were also polite and professional, and very kind to the dogs who shared the yard with them. They also made sure the yard gate remained closed so no escapes. Graham designed the project, communicating with me as well as my general contractor and then coordinated with the arborist, irrigation and other subs. He listened to my ideas, asking appropriate questions and when he suggested an alternative, gave reasons and recommendations. When we had to make a quick change to the placement of the fence, the work was done carefully and quickly, without complaint. I highly recommend The Great Outdoors and will have them back to work, without question. read more
