'I had hiiiigh hopes, hiiiiigh hopes, high apple pie. In the sky hopes.'
Alas, they were dashed.
We discovered the Green Room Cafe in lovely Stoke Newington as we were ambling about looking for a place to have coffee. Keep that in mind for this review, I was looking for coffee.
Outside it's a florist, with plants and flowers spilling out onto the sidewalk. I stopped to smell the roses, literally, and saw a sign advertising pancakes. The florist standing outside urged us to go in and check it out.
Inside it's lovely and airy, with wooden floors and high ceilings. Out the back, they have a really nice, large garden seating area. So that's where we sat. We asked if we should order inside but were told no, they had table service. In retrospect, we should've ordered inside. My mother always says if you want something done right, do it yourself.
Eventually we got menus. In the meantime, a waiter had come to the table and we asked for two coffees. Another waitress came back and we ordered breakfast and a burger. They have a whole host of breakfast dishes, pancakes, and benedicts on the menu. I ordered the veggie breakfast as I was feeling virtuous, my friend the chicken burger.
And we waited. And waited. Eventually we prompted for our coffee, having already asked for it.
The food came after a long wait. With no cutlery. Or coffee. I went in search of cutlery myself. Then asked for my coffee and some butter.
We waited. No coffee. No butter. The veggie breakfast with dry toast was just disappointing and the veggie sausage was vile.
Eventually we got up to pay. The server said to my friend 'oh sorry you never got your coffee'.
So you did realise we were waiting for the coffee, therefore I can only assume you were just fkkking with us, for your own amusement.
I'd never go back. read more
