I may be doing everyone in the inner west a disservice by outing the whereabouts of this place.
Those of us who have recently discovered where, the previously nomadic tribe of the Grifters have put down roots, probably don't want it spoiled by hundreds of punters piling in on a Friday, Sat and Sunday for the limited days they open the "shopfront" for business.
It is a little den of Grifter beer happiness. From a wall behind the bar is a selection of 7 or 8, brewed on site beers that are a local taste like no other. One of my most favourite craft beers going around at the moment, I have to say I love this place with all my heart.
A cool and dark venue which leaks when it rains, the Grifter guys have set up a little tasting station where you can buy a $12 paddle of 4 Ponies to try all the flavours they make. Some limited editons, some standards, I recommend this to start off with so you can pick one you love.
At the moment they have "Serpent's Kiss" which is a Watermelon Pilsner. Side note: I recently tried a watermelon Pilsner at Murray's Brewery in Port Stephens locale, but this one here is far superior.
They have GB Bitter.- Extra special bitter ( Grifter Brewing Bitter) which I found superb, and way way better than good ol' bog standard VB.
Bright Eye, Pale Ale, PD Best Bitter, Big Sur which is a West coast IPA at a whopping 6.7%
Demon lungs - a collab between GB and LP's quality meats, where this dark ale is made with oatmeal and smoked malt. A percentage of the malt is smoked at LP's. It is very very delicious.
And Omen, an oatmeal stout, which tastes like chocolate and coffee, and was surprisingly easy to drink, for a stout, which doesn't usually float my boat.
Here's the 411 : The only food here are bar snacks. Wasabi peas, smoked Almonds and Jerky.
They are only open from 12pm- 9pm Friday and Saturday, and 12pm- 7pm Sunday.
There are no Schooners, only middies and ponies. ( Some kind of Brewery licensing clause no doubt)
You can buy take home refillable squealers in a fancy gold leaf bottle. Bottle $5, beer about $12 to refill.
You can buy some really rad, branded T shirts, which they had made by 10 buck Tees in Marrickville, for $30. You can also buy a cap or one of their branded Middy glasses.
Love the catch phrase thus emblazoned : You are a stranger here, but once.
I believe it is true, super friendly staff behind the bar who kept us entertained and our glasses full. read more
