The Grocery is a Homewood staple, but an odd vibe. They have some fun punching bag games, dart boards, and pool tables. Sometimes they have live music. I come here usually when some big sports game is on, and they have some good TVs around for watching with friends. They have draft beers, high noons, well cocktails, nothing particularly special in terms of drink or food, just bar food. Service is relatively quick and you order up at the bar, no table service. I must confess, this is not my favorite spot in town. The one time I've been here later at night, security was eerily tight for suburban Homewood. Like they searched my purse and had security inside. Eerie, indeed. Bathrooms can get kinda gross, wet floors. This space has so much potential for hosting larger events! It's huge when you open it up to the back, which they rarely do. I stopped by because I saw a post about The Grocery Brewpub and decided to check it out. I was expecting a pub that brews its own beer. They don't brew their own, but they do have some beer on tap: Coors, Modelo, and other national brands, as well as some microbrews such as Yellowhammer and Sweetwater. They have a full bar as well. This is a regular neighborhood sports bar. Parking availability is limited, but with it being in front of a neighborhood, I'd guess a lot of people just walk from home. read more

After a very long hiatus, we went back to The Grocery. No longer a brewery, they serve outside beers and spirits. The space formerly occupied by brewing equipment is empty, creating tons of space for events with large numbers of people. On a slow night, all that extra space makes the bar feel very, very empty. We went for Wednesday night trivia which was scheduled to start at 7 but didn't get going until almost 8. A couple of tables bailed before it started leaving only 3 teams. It was fun, the bartender and host were great but it was a bit lame with so few people. (who knew Tom Cruise dated Cher?). I can't stress enough just how nice the bartender was. She was a pleasure to chat with and clearly makes an attempt to connect with customers. We did food and everything was good. The burger was huge and had a great flavor. The wings with mango habanero sauce were nicely cooked but didn't have any heat. I tend to love extremely spicy food and these were just sweet. The quesadilla was good, but on the oily side. The Grocery is in an upscale neighborhood, but the place has the look and feel of a college bar. That's not necessarily a bad thing, it's just not my vibe. The bathrooms were 100% like a college bar with plywood walls, no mirrors and graffiti everywhere. The plywood was clearly a crude fix, screwed on the previous drywall. The toilets were clean but clearly have seen some very rough treatment. If you're into watching big games with others, The Grocery should be on your list. It's big, casual and has enough TVs to scratch your itch. read more

This is a great venue. Parking is a bit iffy during busy times, but that doesn't take away from the fun times at the pub. Always busy and a good selection of beer. Fun atmosphere and definitely a place to go for a beer or two. read more

The smash burger was decent, the chicken on the quesadilla was excellent, loved that. Beer cheese and pretzels was alright, probably can skip on that. They have a pretty decent selection of beer to choose from, and the building has a lot of space to spread out in. There was a football game going on so there was no more parking in the lot, and we had to park further away. There's lots of TVs, a golf simulator, drinks, and food. I really enjoyed this place.. I went in for happy hour today with some friends. The area: the restaurant area is a open concept with garage doors, for kind of an indoor outdoor entertaining type place. They don't have a ton of tables, there is a lot of standing-room. It's super spacious. The bar: you have to order at the bar. They have lots of beer and drink options. I asked the cashier if they had a happy hour and she said no. However, when I called I was told that they do... not sure what happened there. I ordered a sour patch beer which was 7.50 for the glass. Food: they do not serve food and do not have a functional kitchen. Off The Hook food truck was there when we went. I ordered the salmon salad for $12.50. It was pretty good. I'd definitely go back to try other menu items. The waitress did mention that they plan to have a kitchen within the next year. Temp/noise: because the garage doors were open the temp inside was the temp outside... today was comfortable. They do have a band that plays. The natural volume/noise in the place was loud but not uncomfortable. Its family friendly. Oh pets were there, too! read more

A good establishment for a relaxed night. Pool tables are convenient and plenty of tv's to watch sports games. Drinks are also well priced. However, they have the worst bathroom situation I have seen in a long time. The urinal has been flooded and out of order for weeks and the stall door have been broken for months and is always disgusting. They need to get a portable bathroom outside and redo their entire bathrooms, it is simply unacceptable. read more

This is a great concept! They have big garage doors on the front of the building that were open, so it's like being outside and inside at the same time, which I love. It's like a brewery in the fact that they make their own beer, but they also serve many other local beers, wine and cocktails. My two favorites were the Bushwacker (add a rum topper) and the Jalapeno Margarita. The margarita was just spicy enough, without being too overpowering. I asked them to add a splash of pineapple juice and it reminded me a lot of Five's Jalapeno-Pineapple Margarita, which I love. We went during an Alabama football game, and it was packed. We stood for a long time before a table opened up, but that's to be expected during a big game. They have ample seating, which isn't common for a bar/brewery, and plenty of TV's, so it was a good place to watch football. While they don't have a kitchen that serves food, they have a permanent food truck out front that you order from at the bar and they will deliver to you, just like a normal restaurant. We didn't eat, but everything looked good. My main complaint was that there were no COVID restrictions in place at the bar, etc. I kept my distance from others while ordering, but most did not. However, we will be back, hopefully when it's less crowded. read more

Absolutely great neighborhood bar! Went with friends for popsicles next door but ended up walking over to partake in cocktails and pool instead. Now, it's a great atmosphere with the open garage doors and one big fan to circulate the air... but I will enjoy this place a lot more in the fall because the heat was a lot while enjoying a jalapeno margarita. The drink was great but the two different heats did a number on my system! Maybe if they strategically place another fan near the pool tables... I don't know. Anyway, the server/bartender made really great drinks and came over to provide great service as well. I really like this place and plan to visit again either at night or in the fall when it's not so hot outside. One of the best bushwackers in town and such great happy hour deals that you can't not stop in. The bartenders are all friendly as can be and so easy to talk to. They have plenty of options on draft so everyone should be able to find something they'll like and the food truck they get their menu from is just perfect for the environment of the place as well. No complaints at all besides the temperature. If the garage doors are open, just go ahead and take your jacket off because it is pretty hot inside (hence the bushwacker to drink though) read more

This is a cool establishment that I discovered with friends after a Battle Republic class. It has a nice, relaxed vibe and a good selection of beers and cocktails. I enjoyed a Flamingo Dreams Nitro (pink, fruity beer) and a delicious blended Bushwhacker with 151 on top. There was a food truck out front from which I got a Philly cheese steak (pretty good) and coleslaw (iffy). This place has sports TV, a pool table, and allows kids. Seemed like a great gathering place for all kinds and will accommodate groups. Service was nice, and I enjoyed the drink selection. I will be back! read more

I've been to The Grocery a handful of times just in the past week after discovering it. They have a great selection no matter what I'm thirsty for and have delivered great service every time. It's a nice spot to hang out with friends or watch a game or two on all their TVs. They also have live music a lot which I ALWAYS enjoy. As far as food goes they have Off The Hook food truck out front until they finish the kitchen but it has great options by itself. And this place just opened a while back so I'm patient about waiting for the kitchen lol. Overall, this is a nice brewpub with good in-house options as well as a large selection of whatever else you could want. They have a great atmosphere, with a small town vibe, and they occasionally host JOX sports radio which is also entertaining. Every night I've been there has been some kind of event/special going on and it's a really fun place to relax and just enjoy yourself or your company. read more

Disappointed! When my husband and I walked in we almost left because it was empty. We wanted to see how the house beer was so we decided to try it. We are craft beer lovers and visit Asheville often to try craft breweries. My husband got the IPA and he said it was good. I got the Heffe and I was shocked that is tasted like butterscotch. I asked my husband to taste it and he said it was skunked. I didn't finish it and now I wish I had told the bartender. The brewer really should have thrown this batch out. Not sure we will be back. Seems like a good bar, but I'm on their patio on a Friday night and they have 5 TVs. There are only 2 college football games on tonight and they don't have either one on them on these 5 TVs. There are 4 or 5 more TVs inside and they only have the 2 colleges football games on 2 of them. I'm not a big fan of government, but if I could give the government only one power it would be to shut down 'sports' bars like this that have no idea what to put on their TVs. Our Miata Group ate here for lunch today. Sophie S was our Server and she was so outstanding!! Since we were such a large group, we ate outside at two different tables. Sophie kept our glasses of tea full and kept our food monitored by the kitchen. My husband had fish & homemade kettle chips which were delicious, although some of the chips were not thoroughly fried completely. My crab cakes and fried green tomatoes were excellent!! My cheese grits were decent but could have used more cheese, as most of my friends agreed they too missed the cheese. Definitely a place to return in the future!! read more
