Not good. Chicken from a steam tray. Cold rice. Boring salad.
    Jeff S.

Halal Guys sucks. It sucks in NY and it sucks here. Yes, they did have a great thing going on with the street carts back in 2009. But today's iteration of Halal Guys is just a shadow of what used to be. I'm old enough to remember that Halal Guys chicken would be fresh cooked on the grill right in front of you. It would be crispy, a little charred, juicy, and flavorful. It was so good! The line was literally around the corner any time I'd show up. Even at midnight or later, they were totally rocking it. Here, you're getting a pile of lightly cooked and weakly seasoned chicken that sits in a steam tray for 3 hours. Steamed chicken? Really? NOBODY WANTS STEAMED CHICKEN! The rest of the platter? Well, the accompanying salad (aka iceberg lettuce and chopped tomato) is a joke. Anyone who's had a Lebanese or Middle Eastern salad knows its a flavorful mix of vegetables, olives, oil, herbs and spices. The Halal Guys salad belongs in an old age home dining room. The rice was bright orange, flavorless and cold. There was nothing at all redeeming at all about this meal. Nothing. What an embarrassment. Eater's beware! Don't waste your time or money.

    Falafel platter - tasty

I was so happy to find out there was a Halal Guys coming to Northeast Philly. They're definitely of of my favorite fast casual restaurants. The far and away winner is their beef, which is nicely seasoned and a pleasant consistency. The chicken and falafel are not bad either. The only thing that's a bit 'meh' is their pita, which feels like an after thought (I'm referring to the pita in the platters). However that's not a big complaint and I'll happily eat one of their platters any day. Get it with extra white sauce, and if you're adventurous try a bit of hot sauce thrown in there. When you compare it to the other options in the same shopping center, it's clearly the best quality choice.

I drove about 7 miles to get here. Why? Well because the food on their Instagram looked sooooo good. It was also football Sunday so I wanted a good lunch to go with the game. I preferred this location because it was easy to park as it is in a strip mall. First impression, well the store was sort of clean. Not the worst but definitely could have been neater. The menu is straight forward. Chicken, falafel or beef? Anyway I got a falafel platter. The amount of food you get for the money seems okay. I was sad to find out from General conversation from the folks that work there that much of the things they offer are pre-packaged. The hummus and pita are and I saw the counter person plunk my frozen falafel into the oil. The counter person even admitted to me at one point that she had never even tasted hummus before. I found that strange. As for the quality of food I wasn't impressed. The bright orange rice was scary and the falafel were a let down. Maybe the other location are better. I gave them 2 stars because the people behind the counter were very nice and a the woman working there did ask me if I was a vegetarian so she could give me the right pita.

Delicious! Been here a bunch of times never had any issues. Staff always friendly. Great rewards app you get a free platter for your birthday but they give you plenty of time to use it. Combo platter is my go to. Love the sauces. Extra White & Hot. Try the bbq also for a different taste. Fries are tasty. Highly recommend.

I came back to the Halal guys yesterday after getting my nails done, and this time opted for a side of Falafel and a side of Hummus. You can get 2 falafel for $1.00 and the Hummus (and pita) for $2.99 I think it was. The side of hummus could feed an entire family of four during movie night that's for darn sure, there was so much squished into the container I had to take it home! The Manager (I believe) was so nice and so helpful, I was so impressed. I liked the place before, but kindness goes a long way. Updated my review from 4 to 5 stars. I'll be back soon!

I am not someone that craves Halal food often but when I do, I go all out. I went to the new location the other day and I thought the food was really good. The owner was very friendly and made sure my table had a great visit. We were served a couple items for dinner. My friends and I split a gyro platter, the falafel platter, a speciali french fry platter, and a chicken sandwich. Everything was delicious and you could tell it was freshly made. It is a great take out place if you're looking for something on the go. Prices were also reasonable for the portion size you get. I split everything with three other people and we all took home some leftovers.

I had to check out the Halal Guys that opened up near my home. Having been to enough of these franchises, I knew not to go in with high hopes. Maybe it's the turnover, but the Halal Guys cart has really juicy meat and it is perfectly shredded. At the store, you end up with somewhat dryer meat and large chunks of meat. I have not been a fan of this, but this is the case at KOP, Philly Chinatown, East Brunswick and now the NE Philly location. The ambience and service is both very good. Here you do not get the white sauce at the table, but they are more than happy to come out with the bottle and reload your platter to your taste. The protein (meat) content is better than East Brunswick location. Overall, check it out once. I am not sure if I will return. It's just not the same as the 53rd Street cart in NYC

    Falafel platter

First time trying this restaurant for some falafel. Ordered 2 falafel platters to go and picked them up at 4:33 pm ( 10 minutes after it was ready. This was the worse falafel we ever had. Dry burnt and overcooked. Mixed with the rice there was no taste at all. Not even saved by the white sauce. The pita was doughy Only the lettuce was decent. We will not be coming back. Completely not what we expected. Go elsewhere for real falafel!!

I decided to order the viral crispy falafel for myself and a viral crispy chicken shawarma combo for my fiancé from Bishos. I placed my order at 4:06 PM online and walked into the store 20 minutes later. It still wasn't ready so I sat down and enjoyed the lovely ambiance inside. Plenty of seating for customers, an area for photo ops and dates and water for those participating in Ramadan were just some of the perks I noticed. The employees appeared to have been speaking Spanish and they were all friendly with one another. It's clean and airy inside. I definitely want to come back and sit down for a meal. Prices were fair - about $34 for a combo meal (with fries and drink) and my falafel wrap. That includes a service fee and a 10% tip. 15 more minutes had gone by and the woman behind the counter brought my food to me packaged tight inside a brown paper bag. When I arrived at home, that first bite into the viral crispy falafel was unreal. It was so pleasing to hear the crunch, but most importantly, it tasted amazing. The falafel was fresh and so were the other ingredients. My fiancé got the combo with French fries and I can confirm the fries are crispy and seasoned very well. This is my new go-to whenever the taste for falafel hits. Thanks, Bishos!

I've long let go of the ancient proverb about not judging a book by it's over... in this case by the strip shopping center it's located in. Diana, our director of first impressions and food guide for this dining experience was engaging, smiling and truly excited to converse with us about our Eastern European food experiences throughout the Bulstleton Ave-Philly region. We took a walk through discussion across the menu to understand preparations and which dishes were most recommended to keep ups wanting to come back. So many to select from. We did try a few plates to get the full experience. Opened with a bowl of Mastava soup - ground beef, rice, peppers, carrots and onions, delicous. Wish there were closer to home to pick up on cold days... that good. Next we had a plate of 4 manti's - dumplings with beef, lamb and onions (think of wonton dumpling with meat inside, no soup broth- that would be a soup dumpling). Next, we shared a bowl of plov - slow cooked rice, beef, lamb, carrot and onions. This dish I could have weekly it was that DELICIOUS! We did try one beef kabab, so tender and juicy. I also love Bronzino and could not pass it up. Whole bronzino grilled and in place of french fries the chef did me a solid... stewed tomates and grilled peppers to acompany the fish. If only I could do this at home on my grill... will try. Was delicious. We found a new restaurant to add into our rotation. See our food photos attached and follow me on Yelp for more tasty adventures. What a gem. Thank you Diana. BTW... no alchol (no BYOB) allowed. Parking lot. They do accept credit cards but with a small add on processing fee.

I am not an adventurous eater, but I could kick myself for not going sooner. The food was that delicious and very importantly reasonably priced. My husband and I decided to try it during a date night, and I can't wait to go back. The staff was very friendly and attentive. Our starter was Tandoori Samsa. Our entrees were the Classic Lamb and Plov Samarkand. For dessert we shared the Pahlava. If I had to change anything I would have ordered my own Pahlava. We are already planning to go back for his birthday with the whole family.

We found out that most of the people (regulars) who usually come here are on their vacation season so it was not an issue getting a six-top reservation with only a day's notice. The restaurant is huge with at least two mega rooms downstairs and one upstairs. We actually went to the upstairs door to check in only to be told we had to go to the downstairs door and check in there. Once we did, the staff asked if we would be ok with being in the "party" room where there would be a DJ. We were fine with that and the staff was more than happy to accommodate us. Once at our table, the extensive menus made it almost too difficult to decide what we wanted. May want to consider reducing the food options here. My wife and I split a tomahawk steak. Once we ordered it, we were told we should probably move to an eight-top because we would have more space. The place was almost empty at 6:15pm on a Saturday so we got to move and give us some more room. We also had two serving of Plov, a prime NY strip, a roasted beet salad, and a chicken fingers with fries. We added some bread, too, along with some compote. The Plov was some of the best we've ever had with lots of tender meat. Both steaks were cooked to our liking. Fries were killer and the chicken fingers were fine. I did not care for the compote as I'm used to it with fruit still in the drink. At about 7pm, the DJ started but there was no separate party which is what we thought was going to show up. The DJ sang some and played up-tempo dance music but also threw in some known music like Ob-Bla-Dee Ob-Bla-Dah from the Beatles also in the dance music style. So much fun after drinking a lot of our BYOB alcohol. Service was excellent and more than accommodating for us. He even advised when we were getting ready to leave that it was raining hard and we could stay until it died down. The restaurant is colorful with lights and designs on the walls including projector lights and white linen sheets above. The place was clean and also the bathrooms on the lower rear level. $305 not including tip for six adults which included two steaks, two Plov, chicken fingers with fries, three breads, and a compote. I mention a lot with my reviews that I'd come back to a place. I really can't wait to return to Samarkand! It was just a lot of fun with excellent food and service. I hope it's just as good when the place is slammed and full.

Imagine our surprise, that while in town for business, and with time to kill before an art exhibition, we discovered an Uzbeki restaurant. Immediately upon entering, we were greeted and led to a large comfortable booth in the back of the restaurant. The lighting was warm, the walls were adorned with beautiful rugs, and the customers' spirits were high. Each table had been pre-set with the resutarant's lovely plates and crystal drinkware. Given that this was our first time at an Uzbeki eatery, we asked our server for some suggestions. Upon doing so, she then asked us if we prefer meat or fish. After perusing the menu a bit more and taking her suggestions into consideration, we had decided to order a wide array of sorts, opting for the pickled herring and potato appetizer, some Tandoori Samsas, a bowl of the Kharcho soup, and an order of the Guyru Dumplings. Our dishes were brought out promptly and our server made sure to check on us periodically throughout our meal, at one point even offering to allow the kitchen to split some of our dishes up for us to make it easier to share with one another. The pallet of flavors we were presented with was colored and wonderful; the pickled hairing playing a perfect duet with the hearty roasted potatoes, pairing well balanced acidity and perfectly crisp potatoey goodness, the kharcho simultaneously lightly spicy and fully refershing with that dill coming throough alongside juiicy chunks of lamb, and the the delectable dumplings, swimming in a flavorful bath of broth and sour cream. As we were nearing fullness, we realized we had forgotten to add one more piece to this meal...the dessert! After this realization, we decided to share a piece of wonderfully sticky Phaklava, adorned with and generously filled with walnuts and golden raisans. Suzani Restaurant is not to be missed. We pulled into a shopping plaza and saw our destination - Suzani. I had never eaten in an Uzbeki restaurant - our friends, who had eaten there before said "...come hungry!" They recommended a few appetizers - we ordered the Potato with Mushrooms, Eggplant Salad, Achichuk, and Kutab. Let's start with the Potato with Mushrooms - which the menu describes as "Fried Potato Slices with Pan Roasted Mushrooms and Onions. It should say "Potato Chips with Pan Roasted Mushrooms". It was a very unusual dish, to say the least. While the chips were homemade and tasty, having roasted mushrooms and onions with them didn't work at all for me. It was difficult scooping mushrooms onto the chips - and the combination was not that tasty. The mushrooms and onions would have been better by themselves. Once the chips got soggy from the mushrooms, it was very unappetizing. Next, the Eggplant Salad - which was fried eggplant, red and green pepper, tomato, Korean style carrots, garlic and cilantro served in a soy sauce. It tasted fine - I'm not a big fan of eggplant, but the veggies tasted fresh and I had some of the bread they served with it. The next appetizer was Achichuk, which is a traditional Uzbek salad of thinly sliced tomatoes, hot peppers and onions. I did not taste the dish, but was told it was okay for spiced fresh tomatoes. The last appetizer was Kutab - which was a flattened shell, which tasted and resembled the exterior of a fried dumplings, with meat and onions on the inside. It was super thin, and tasted okay. We ordered our main dishes after we finished the appetizers. The couple we were with both ordered the Salmon Kabobs - I tasted the salmon, it tasted good, and was tender. I ordered the Lamb kabobs - the lamb was tender, but it was a little too salty. However, when I had a piece of the lamb with the saffron rice, it diminished the saltiness of the lamb and tasted fine. My partner ordered the Filet Mignon kebab. It did not come with the other 3 orders - the sever said it would be out momentarily. Almost 15 minutes later, I was amazed my partner didn't have her entree! I gave the server a 'look' - she went in the back and FINALLY brought out my partner's dish. The meat (Filet Mignon) was tough and difficult to chew. I took a piece of my Lamb kabob to compare - my lamb was very tender compared to the steak! Not only was the order overly delayed - it was below average. While the other dishes were acceptable - they were mediocre. I would like to point out we were there during the dinner hour and we were the ONLY patrons there during the entire dinner. I wasn't surprised.

Merion Park Labneh: this labneh is thicker than other restaurants which I really like actually. the photo I insert may be deceiving, as it looks chunky. rest assured, it's absolutely smooth, just a thicker consistency than most labnehs. the spices on it are so so good. I think this is a must get along with a hummus. me and my sister are vegetarian, we share a hummus and a labneh and are decently full after those. we also snack on some small plates for the table (fries and olives) and leave full. Israeli Pickles and Olives: comes with two ramekins filled with varying sized pickles, not pitted olives, and some tiny yellow peppers I *think* are either pepper-chinos or at the very least taste similar. they also come with a small ramekin for the olive pits. The yellow peppers are very spicy, but I loved them. the olives are green, and i'd consider them friendly olives for those who are particular around olives. pickles were great as expected. French Fries: easy order for the table. portion is large and I think $8 is a steal for the quantity and quality. comes with a yummy ketchup my sister loves (she is considered a ketchup hater). COCONUT MALABI: I did not know what to expect. and honestly, first bite I was a bit confused by the texture, but by the end, I really liked it. its a thick pudding consistency, smooth, has a decent bounce to it, not too sweet at all, subtle coconut flavor. has a strawberry (I think) jam situation on top with some sort of crunchy thing. will be getting that again for sure. we had three people split this and it was enough. would consider getting two for four people though. service was quick, efficient, and kind. love the atmosphere. it has a sort of lively fun vibe to it. also we were in and out pretty quick without being rushed at all which is nice. just efficient.
