They offer a choice from different daily lunch and evening set menus or al carte. I opted for the latter and for the first course I chose Pan Fried Scallops with Minted Pea Puree, Asparagus & White Truffle Oil, which were cooked just right, for my main course I chose the Fillet of Scottish Beef with Cafe de Paris Butter, Vine Cherry Tomatoes & Pont Neuf (Pont Neuf is a bridge in France, but on the plate its thrice fried short chunky chips! Chef's license I suppose) The fillet was cooked to my liking, although the chips (Pont Neuf's) were cooked well, slightly al dente, but I prefer them crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. So I joined the lunchtime queue at the Fish House, located in East Street close to the main junction with Victoria Avenue. A queue, as Prospects College is just down the road and at 12.30pm the guys from this construction college target the chippy for a quick meal. Although the queue, was long service was quick, and I was in and out with my bag of open chips in 5 minutes. Chips you could easily class as the good old style variety thick cut fried just right so they tasted brill. A great lunch enjoyed thoroughly and although I baulked at the price, which I find myself doing with a lot of things at the moment, I guess this might be standard price for all chippy's.

This chish and fips was near by and open. 2 medium-sized fish and chips, (cod, fyi), came with a free side, yay! The fish was skin on, which I've always thought of being a northern thing, and perhaps wrongly so. The size was massive. The batter was a deep golden colour, and honestly, I've had lighter, airy-er batter. However the fish inside was moist and flakey and tasty. The chips were chunky, golden with the right mix of crispy and soft. I did think that it was a tad expensive, at first, but that was before seeing a battered cod the size of my face! Customer service was a bit mediocre. Smiles, pleases and thank yous really do help. There looks to be a bit more to explore on the menu, but there are other places to try before I decide if this will be come a go to for catholic inspiration for fat friday take out.
