We had passed by this restaurant several times and decided to go there for lunch when we wanted to try gözleme, because we appreciated the fact that we could watch it being prepared by a woman who was sitting in the front window.
The restaurant was completely empty. Not long after we sat down, we observed a strong smell of sewage. When my partner asked about the restroom, he was directed to the attached hotel next door. There seemed to be something seriously wrong with the plumbing in the restaurant itself.
We decided not to leave because we didn't have a lot of time to spare for lunch. We ordered tea and two types of gözleme: ıspanaklı (spinach) and kıymalı (meat). The spinach one was so bland it was really only edible if you combined it with a bite of the meat gözleme. The meat one wasn't very exciting, either. It was the worst meal we had during our entire trip, and it wasn't even the cheapest, because like any other restaurant in the tourist area, the prices are inflated. Our waiter was indifferent and we had to signal to get his attention because he was more interested in looking out the window than in paying attention to his only customers.
At least we did not become ill, which was something I feared based upon the smell. read more
