This restaurant first caught my attention during the World Cup, and I was especially excited to try the haggis and other Scottish dishes. Unfortunately, haggis isn't available every day, so when we visited on a Sunday evening, it was not on the menu. That was definitely disappointing to find out. Instead, we ordered the Scotch egg, sliders, and the deep-fried Mars bar. The Scotch egg was good, but at $13 for a single egg, it felt a bit overpriced. It came with a small side salad, though I think serving two eggs instead would have made it a better value. The sliders were a pleasant surprise. The beef was clearly high quality, and they were the perfect size if you want to enjoy a great burger without committing to a full one. To finish, we shared the deep-fried Mars bar, and it was absolutely delicious. It's definitely a rich dessert, so it's perfect for sharing between two people. I personally would have preferred it with vanilla ice cream instead of whipped cream, but it was still a great way to end the meal. Overall, I'd love to come back and finally try the haggis, but based on this visit, I'd definitely recommend the sliders and the deep-fried Mars bar. read more

Craved a burger after spending the morning walking a lot at the Arnold Arboretum, so we walked here. It was packed full of sports fans but luckily there was patio space for us. Super windy afternoon with a few sprinkles coming down. The mayor of Boston was being interviewed with a Scottish musician playing bagpipes, which was kind of cool. Our server was quick and helpful. For dessert I got the sticky toffee pudding which was lackluster: kinda dry and the ice cream and butterscotch sauce on top were nothing to write home about. So tasty! I ended up here for dinner last night before attending an event in Roslindale. I have been told the vibe was pretty good and it's not every day you find Scottish food in Boston. After learning what haggis was made of, I decided to go for the fish supper. It's been a minute since I've had fish and chips, and the fact that this dish came with mushy peas sealed the deal. We started with the scotch egg and I had a native lager on the side. I'm off the deer train, but they sell deep fried Mars bars.. yummm Service was nice and attentive; we sat at a high top near the bar. The place was comfortably crowded and had a very nice atmosphere. Had a pretty solid dinner here this past week. We made a reservation for two and were disappointed to have been sat in the corner with seats facing away from each other. After a few minutes, our waitress offered to move us when another seat opened. We eventually were able to move to a table where the seats faced each other. OK - Haggis in Boston. Where else would you find that? At the Haven, of course. We trekked over here to try it out, I mean a Scottish place in Boston? Glad we did! We started with the scotch egg, which was very tasty and was served with a mustard aoli type sauce that was perfect. I had the haggis, neeps and tatties which was excellent. My wife had their signature burger which she loved and my daughter had the curry which I'm pretty sure she wiped the plate clean! We ended with the warm sticky toffee pudding, which was just amazing! Stopped by The Haven for dinner on Sunday night! We were immediately sat and walking inside felt like I was teleported to a tavern. The ambiance of the place felt very relaxed almost like a background a bar in a game. I got the Fish Dinner which came with one fish, mushy peas, and potato wedges. The fish was a little bland and the batter was thin, so it got soggy fast. Service was very friendly, but a bit slow at times despite being relatively empty. I love this spot. They have a nice private patio as well a cozy indoor dining room. I was pleasantly surprised by the menu, which made me forget I was at a bar restaurant. The salmon had crispy skin and was served with a quinoa tossed green salad with a delicious dressing. The fried garbanzo beans added a nice texture. It is a place to linger so I went ahead and ordered the whiskey creme brulee. Everything was spot on including the service. Could have been epic, but for everything a reviewer looks for to make it so. This is a Scottish themed pub, barely! I was sort of greeted at the entrance with "Do you have a reservation?". It was 11.45 am and the place was empty! I stated that we had one. 4 adults and a child. He said, and I quote... "Sit anywhere ". Exciting menu but only Brunch. The prospect of Sausage Roll, for $13 did not put me off, nor the equally priced scotch egg. I chose the "Full Scottish " an imported rendition of a Scottish breakfast featuring a pork banger (ok), black pudding (good), bacon (not British style), two fried eggs, a slice of tomato, potato cake, home fries and baked beans (which did not get served until asked for). All were tepid to cold. My guess it the cook produced and placed on the "Pass" and our clearly apathetic server watch the heat fully dissipate before bringing to the table. The accompanying "Old Speckled Hen" pint did placate me for a while. It was perfect. As for the Scottish theme. The place had some obscure pictured actual Scottish things depicted adorning the walls and chandeliers made with deer antlers. Thankfully none of the staff wore kilts! read more

I'll still give 3 stars because the food quality seems good and staff were friendly, but the prices were unbelievably high. They had a very unusual menu so I picked a few items off like bacon, toast, home fries, and eggs and it was $24 not even including tax and tip! They charged me $8 for 2 pieces of toast! I ordered eggs and they gave me one single poached egg, and it was still goopy almost raw whites in the middle. The home fries and bacon were great though. I didn't understand how I got so little egg and toast for that high of a cost! It's a cute spot and they had a very creative menu if you like unique food, but I would absolutely not take someone here who is a picky eater or has an uncultured taste palate. read more

The Batter was a little burnt on my fish dinner witch gave it an unpleasant bitter taste the fries were under cooked yet burnt on the outside even more bitterness the scotch egg was a chintzy affair the layer of sausage was so thin it was laughable for $12 give me a break. The Beef pie was a bit much not bad just too thick as far the meat inside made for a laborious chew. Over all I would pass on this place there are way better places that serve this type of food in the city. read more

The fish and chips was dripping with grease, and while the batter was crispy on the end, it was undercooked in the middle. The beet salad was supposed to come with chickpeas. When it came out, there were none. When I asked, the server he said that the kitchen was "out." No reduction in price, no heads up, just too bad. And the place was freezing. ~First Impressions~ Came here twice for two different events. Both through a good friend. First time hearing about the Haven but the atmosphere and staff are amazing. We had Jared as a waiter and he was top class. As a fellow whisky lover, he gave great recommendations and overall was a bright and fun waiter. We also had the pleasure of meeting Jason the owner and he is a great character. Full of smiles and tremendously generous with a great community around him. This place is more than just food and drinks. It's a place with great hospitality. ~The Food~ I had all kinds of starters and entrees here with all of them delivering. The croquettes, scotch egg, lam sausage and pepperoni pizzas were all tasty with the variety of drinks they offered. The Haven Burger was definitely the favorite. Best sliders I've had in Boston! ~The Logistics~ Staff is very accommodating and there's plenty of space all around. There's also a parking lot with plenty of spots, but it does start getting busy towards the evenings. ~Bonus~ The Haven have some great events and I had a chance to attend one of the Dram nights. Sat at a table with a friend and a couple of strangers we met. Was a pleasant experience with an excellent selection of cask strength single malts. Scottish restaurant with really good food! Vibe: Lots of Scottish cultural paraphernalia. There's a patio, restaurant space open to the patio, bar, and indoor seating. Service: excellent, arrived without a reservation on a Friday night and the hostess was able to get us to a table, our waiter was great, we didn't have to wait long at all to check out 10/10 Food: The menu is all Scottish food and drink, small but curated, some vegetarian options. I got the shepherd's pie and it was delicious! The lamb was so tender and not gamey, the cheese was perfectly browned, the rest of the filling was so good. I had a couple chunks of fat that I thought were meat that threw me off but the rest was so delicious. Would definitely recommend. For desert the sticky toffee pudding, again delicious and would recommend, sweet and soft with delicious ice cream pairing and creamy caramel. They don't tell the customer that their tip calculator is based on meal plus tax. When paying with a credit/debit card, they present a handy device for making the payment. No muss or fuss about cash or the server having to take the card and bring it back. The device offers the convenience of choosing the tip. What is not made clear is that the device is programmed to base the tip on the meal plus tax. This is fundamentally dishonest and deceitful. The custom is to base the tip on the cost of the meal. The dishonesty merits the lowest rating. Add that the management ignored the request to explain why they made the choice to program the device this way. Ignoring the request shows that they don't care. Arrogance. What is sad is that the restaurant is very nice. The food was good. The service was good. The ambience of the restaurant was nice. No ear blasting noise. No televisions visible. Everything about this restaurant seems to be designed to actually make for a pleasant meal. Except for the violation of the custom of how to base a tip when using their automated system. Except for ignoring a customer's concern. For what amounts to pennies on the bill the management is willing to sacrifice customer loyalty. Quality of food, service, and overall atmosphere can modify ratings. But deceit makes for a bitter aftertaste. read more

I had visited this restaurant some years ago at its former location near Centre Street. It was a bit disappointing. I decided to give them another try now they have moved. The newer venue is much more spacious with ample parking. The table servers were friendly and attentive. I had the pepperoni pizza and it was really delicious: thin crust with some substance and body, a sweet sauce, and the right balance of zesty cheese. The Mac n cheese is oven roasted so it can be considered too dry for some. The "bangers" were good, no qualms there. The haggis was apparently really dry and my husband couldn't finish it. He really liked the sausage appetizer. It was just okay, kind of lackluster. Obviously not being checked in on for refills and such was not great, either. Had a private birthday party here. The spacious event space opened up to the outdoor patio, creating a grand indoor outdoor experience for guests. The service was exceptional; very attentive waitstaff, quick service from the bar and kitchen, ease of event booking with management. Reasonable price for the booking as well. Food was excellent and came out hot. Ordering the chunky chips (potato wedges) is a must! Some of our guests had been here before, but never for an event, and were very impressed. Public transit accessible and easy car parking is a plus. We'll certainly be back for the restaurant, and are considering this venue for future events. Highly recommend. read more

I've been craving an English breakfast for some time, and I ordered the Full Scotch (5). It's the best full breakfast I've had in the Boston area. (If you're looking for a drink recommendation, I paired my meal with a Wee Heavy.) Our table also ordered the Wild Boar sausage roll (3) and lamb Bridies (4) to taste. I was surprised by how small the wild boar sausage roll was. The sausage tasted gamey, as expected, however, tough, and dry, compared to the Full Scotch sausage. The bridies were just as small but I tasted the lamb in every bite. I could have ordered a few more, and it paired nicely with the beer. A friend who never tried Scottish food said bridies tasted like a pierogi. (I think better!) Our service was considerate and timely. (5) After we ordered our beers, they mentioned our Wee Heavys would come out in bottles which we were completely fine with. Instead our beers arrived in glasses, which was a thoughtful gesture. For how large our party was, our six meals were brought out at the same time and all still hot. The ambiance is unfussy. It was a quiet Sunday afternoon, we arrived just an hour after opening. There were a few parties, but they seemed all evenly spaced out. We were able to carry our convos without yelling. (5/5) As for the restaurant, I liked the refurbished smokestack outside, the ceiling height inside, Premier League football in the background, and the bar decor of their scotch collection. My initial review is a 4.5 star because The Haven left a great first impression. I've tried many restaurants in Boston this year, and this was my favorite meal. (I'll give a complete five star after two meals.) No idea what they do to the veg (combo of root vegetables) but they are soooo tasty. Enjoyed them with the white pudding and an Old Fashion or three. Cheese plate is lovely but wish it was served with more oat cakes - the trenchers aren't enough for all the cheese. We come here because my daughter likes the haggis and always orders it. Nice vibe. Here's what I tried: Beet salad. Loved that they put the dressing on the side, good amount of diced beets. For the price, though, I wished they added some more of the walnuts and cheese. Seafood plate. Wow! Would definitely order this again. It came with cured salmon, another smoked fish spread, shrimp, pickles, a dab of spicy mustard, and oatcakes. First time trying oatcakes and I loved them (seriously might make a batch for breakfast). They had the slightest hint of sweetness and paired well with all the spreads. Fish supper. I sampled a bite of the fish - they offer grilled instead of beer battered. Haven burger. Our waitress raved about this item and I did see it featured prominently both in other reviews and on other tables, so figured it was a must-try. I got this to-go for my husband, and though it slumped a little structurally on the car ride back, it held up well. The thick-cut fries are absolutely a must-order. For World Cup fans, they play a regular rotation of games here, and they also have a lineup of live music/comedy. The burger here has been voted Best in the USA by The Burger Showdown and I can see why. The cocktails were very good-- I wish they came in cuter glasses but taste is more important. The salmon is very good and the accompaniments with it being out the flavor. This is a beer and scotch place, so if you like those two things you'll have a great time. I'm a fan of neither but I still loved it, so I guess that shows you how good everything is. The atmosphere is dark, cozy, and unique. They don't have many tables so make sure to make a reservation!
