I dropped in here to get a dome for me hearing aid. The doctor had left for the day but the receptionist helped me find not only a new dome but a retaining clip as well! I set up an appointment for a cleaning and check up for my hearing aid. I came in for my appointment and the Dr Jeff Akers came in like he was an old friend, and by the end of my appointment I felt like I had made a friend for life! He checked out my hearing aid and noticed that the receiver was broken (it was going off and on) and the wire was too short for my ear. He fixed both issues and told me it was "on the house". I was blown away by his kindness and professionalism! I can tell you I will be a life long customer/patient of the hearing clinic!! Thank you all so much! read more

As audiologists, we place the utmost importance on offering hearing aid solutions designed to improve your ability to hear. We treat people in and around Salem, VA. Our recommendations are based on your set of unique needs based on a hearing test, your level of hearing loss, and your personal budget. Hearing aids should be custom-fit and will require follow-up for cleanings and upgrades. We also specialize in tinnitus treatment, dizziness diagnoses, solutions for vertigo and loss of balance, hearing protection, ear plugs, and pediatric hearing care.

History

Established in 1995.

The Hearing Clinic, Inc. was founded by Dr. Richard Harrell after moving to the area to serve as assistant professor of audiology at Radford University. In 1997 we entered a business relationship providing hearing services for Dr. Aaron Prussin, ENT, in Christiansburg, Virginia, that continues today. The practice expanded in 2000, acquiring the audiology department from Lewis-Gale Medical Center in Salem, Virginia. Jeff Akers, M.S., returned to Virginia to act as director of the Salem Clinic. In 2010 we joined Audigy Group. As an AudigyCertified™ practice, we continue to work to provide services that enhance our core values of exceptional service, excellent technology, and expert advice. Regina Talbert, M.A., brings her many years of experience to our Radford office, where, along with Dr. Seth Palmer, ENT, we provide comprehensive hearing services.

Meet the Business Owner: Richard H.

Dr. Harrell earned his B.S. and M.S. degrees from Radford University with an internship at North Carolina Baptist hospital. He holds a Ph.D. from The Ohio State University. Dr. Harrell moved to the New River Valley from New York where he served as professor of Audiology at the State University of New York-New Paltz. He served as assistant professor of Audiology at Radford University from 1994 to 2000. In 2000, the Audiology department at Lewis-Gale clinic was purchased and became part of The Hearing Cinic, Inc. Dr. Harrell served on the Virginia Department of Health task force for infant hearing screening and was one of the authors of the original protocol for universal infant hearing screening in Virginia. His academic research interests included central auditory processing and Otoacoustic emissions for which he has presented numerous lectures. Dr. Harrell's personal interests include skiing and cycling.

I was welcomed by the kind staff members and even got some great advice from the trainer. After I was finished with my appointments through Groupon; I wanted to utilize the chiropractic services that they offer. I have many friends and clients that tell me about the benefits of it and was excited to try it out myself. The nurse did XRays and brain scans to see what they would be working with and after that, I made the appointment for an adjustment. After once again, going over the dynamic of my bones/ body I was presented with a package/program that was around 2.5k. Although being a technician myself and knowing the benefits of healing treatments and taking care of your body I was hesitant to make such an investment - especially with never getting a service like this done before. I wanted to get an adjustment and see how I would feel and then come back around to the idea of the package, which even their nurse said was fine. She stepped out and let me know that the Doctor would be in to talk to me about everything a little more in detail. To my shock, I could hear the entire conversation outside of the door and could hear his frustration that I did not purchase this package. I was then greeted by, what felt like an extremely discontented businessman instead of a Chiropractic professional. Dr. Pat was belittling, aggressive, and had a horrible bedside manner. Instead of being informational or helpful, he made me feel stupid for being there. I will never be going back to this facility and I will not be recommending any of my connections to come here. It is a shame that Dr. Pat's aggressive personality reflects so poorly on their establishment.
