I had some friends visiting from Manchester this weekend and we really wanted some nice cocktails, not knowing the area hugely well yet the lovely waitress in Pieminister (review to follow) pointed us in the direction of The Hedonist Project and their semi permanent gin pop up bar - Old Tom's Gin Kitchen.
It was a Saturday night and it was pretty busy, but the atmosphere was great and the clientele was more grown up and relaxed, which was exactly what we were looking for. They have a brilliant range of gin cocktails and along with beers, wines and other spirits. But coming here and not having a gin based cocktail would be crime. We opted for the 1888 martini, the bramble and a Vera Lyne. They were all delicious and some of the best cocktails I think we've ever had. Few small notes for the unitiated - the drinks are fairly expensive, around £9.00 and they are generally very short and very alcoholic, but in my mind, completely worth it. If you fancy one, be quick as it won't be around for long. This is the spring guise in the latest line up of the Hedonist projects pop up bars. read more
