I thoroughly enjoyed my breakfast at this newly discovered location. the highlands sits in Southeast DC. Everything is made from scratch including their Caribbean dishes. The restaurant is tucked away next to planet fitness on the underside of the building. Nice murals on the walls of local movers and shakers along with the ambiance of a full bar and flat screen televisions. This setting was planned to win the customer by providing local art and a good mix of fresh food to create something rare, its first in this primary location. They have two locations. The Highlands was absolutely delicious! It's right next to the Planet Fitness (terrible lol!). We smelled it leaving the gym one night and had to come back for breakfast. Service was quick, and we both enjoyed the French toast --they use brioche bread. Yum! read more

After 5-6 visits I feel the Greetings are just okay. It feels like people come here so we are not really glad you are here. 2 times the order was incorrect and once they placed someone else's food on my table and walked away. A wonderful neighborhood gem! My mom has been raving about the his restaurant for months after visiting a couple of times. From the food to the staff to the ambiance, The Highlands is a much needed neighborhood staple. We went for a Saturday brunch and shared the fried green tomatoes, salmon cakes and shrimp & grits. Let me start with the positives... The food was amazing. I had the salmon cake and fried green tomatoes. Both were very tasty. However, service was slow! And the food did not come out in the proper order. Our appetizers came out well after our main meals. It took them a long time to clear off our dishes and to get the check. I did notice that there was a 20% gratuity already added to my bill, so I was not sure why I was presented with an option to provide another tip. I would definitely go back again, but I would probably do a pick up order. read more

Food was good but every time i visit the Branzino Fish isn't as filling ( smaller size)

Branzino- pescatarians, you'll love love love it I couldn't believe it was on the menu, but after an extremely revealing workout it was the best reward. They open one near my house and me and my grandma decided to try it out. I went to place an order in person because I didn't know you can call the order in or do it online. So I got the pasta which was really good and my gma got the meatloaf and she really enjoyed it. I will go back and eat in as they have a full bar. read more

I'm so happy that they've finally opened a location, EOR!! I have been going to the original location forever, and now I don't have to cross the city for good food. Per usual, the food is AMAZING, the service makes you feel like family, there is ample parking, and the environment is safe and well lit. The restaurant is so beautifully decorated that you find something new to look at every time you go. The drinks are on point as well. If you live EOR or in PG County, we now have a great place to eat with delicious food and lots of options. I'm sure I'll be there once a week, so look out for me. read more

We have been waiting so long and finally it is open! Love the wall murial, the music, the service. Food was fresh, plated beautifully and very tasty. Welcome to the neighborhood, Highlands! We enjoyed having dinner there last night. They have a good selection of beer, although not draft beer, cocktails and wine. My serving of blackened salmon was so generous that I could only eat half, took the rest home. It was cooked to perfection. Wait staff were friendly and knowledgeable. We were seated quickly, our orders taken when we were ready, and we were served in a reasonable amount of time. The place is clean, open and comfortable. They also serve breakfast and lunch. Tonights visit to highlands was disappointing. I arrived less than an hour before closing and placed an order for dine-in. i first received my soup which was very tasty. Shortly after my turkey burger arrived at my table sooner than I expected. My first bite I notices that the burger was still raw and undercooked in the middle. I noticed the. waitress who promptly apologized for the inconvenience and placed another order. She later returned and asked if I would still be dining in. Feeling a little rushed by her question I agreed to take out. As I waited for my sandwich I asked to pay in advance. Here is the kicker, She informed me that the tip was already included but she would compensate for the mishap. I was a little irritated that they would automatically add the tip after what took place during my first order and the fact that you somewhat hinted at takeout. I don't ask for handout but this should have been to my discretion. If a tip was warranted or not. Highlands please to read this as a attack on your restaurant because the food has always been phenomenal. Just a suggestion Tim not handicap your customer to a financial obligation when the staff is at fault. Allow the customer to dictate the gratuity earned during a questionable visit. Tonights service definitely did not deserve a 18 or 20% acknowledgement from me the customer. read more
