Went here last night to get drinks with friends and opened a tab. I only got 2 drinks from the waitress who was rude to begin with (I'm assuming because we were young and she was older) and then we went outside to watch the bull riding for about 30 minutes. We came back in to order more drinks but found out that the waitress thought we "left" so she closed my tabbed and decided to tip HERSELF. She tipped herself $5 without confirming with me or asking. Was recommended so I took a large (17) group last night. First the positive. They have a small rodeo out back that we enjoyed. That being said, we ate pizza and chicken for dinner beer and soft drinks for a 200+tab. I would compare the pizza to Domino's but then Domino's would probably sue me. The crust, sauce and cheese was very sub par. And you know how people will say "tastes like Chicken". Well you can't say that here. Their chicken didn't taste like anything- no flavor. Do not let the kiddos drink their sodas before the food shows up. NO REFILLS here. Also don't let your kids bring an insulated water bottle because you'll have to take it back to the car as they are not allowed. Enjoyed my chill visit here with friends after a long (but beautiful) hike in nearby Tonto Forest. We had a few places in mind to stop at in AJ/eastern Mesa on our way home and The Hitching Post was closest. We couldn't keep our hunger at bay post-hike for long. For a random Saturday afternoon, they surely were quite busy both inside and outside- two very different crowds for sure! The inside crowd was more... mature... and listening to a gentleman croon country songs all the while adorable couples slow danced on the dance floor. Outside was more geared towards #SundayFunday and football. So we opted for an outdoors table. It definitely felt like a townie bar for anyone in the immediate area, but a welcoming townie bar. Very relaxed vibes. Service was a little spotty, just like their parking situation. Service - waited about 10 minutes or so for the girl to approach us. It took one of my friends going to the bar to get a buck of beer to grab her attention. Just assuming they were understaffed for that time of day. Parking - very minuscule lot out front that is dominated by motorcycles, so you may have to park across the street and risk AZ88 traffic. Didn't take terribly long for food once we ordered, and it was good! The burger was well-cooked, but I was hoping for the price I would've gotten more fries than the pitiful amount served with the burger. The menu descriptions are funny. (Kid friendly during the day- they'll enjoy seeing the roping arena, etc) Just walking in and seeing the memorabilia on its walls is a walk through past times... I brought a bottled water in as it was over 100 degrees out and wanted to rehydrate before ordering a beer. As others have said, the prices are high, no free refills for soft drinks, the restrooms are in need of cleaning. Broasted baby back ribs are disgusting. There are very few places in the valley where you can get a truly great and authentic Chicago style pizza. I will admit that I've not been to every pizza place in the Valley, but the last place that I expected to find pizza this good was on Highway 88 in Apache Junction. My family and I decided to try it when it first re-opened, back in the early summer. We weren't expecting much, but were happily surprised with the place. It's like a mix between a family pizza joint and a dive bar. And I mean that in a positive way - the place is incredibly friendly, and families are welcome, but come Friday and Saturday night, it functions as a bar. The live music is good too - I'm not that much of a fan of country/western, but I still have a great time. Ok, ok. The pizza. My family is from Chicago. We know great Chicago pizza. Apparently, so does the cook (who's from Chicago too). The crust is perfect and crispy (NEVER soggy), the sauce is just right, and the toppings are bountiful. My dad and grandpa love the Hitching Post pizza - plenty of veggies and meat. My mom and I are big fans of their veggie pizza. To be clear, I'm not talking about a Chicago style deep dish pizza - the Hitching Post doesn't do those. They also have great appetizers, hamburgers, and sandwiches. I've had a few different appetizers of theirs - I especially like the fried zucchini. It's got a great breading and isn't too greasy. There is a full bar with beers on tap other than the usual Bud and MGD. My family usually orders a pitcher of Kiltlifter with the meal. I'd especially recommend a pitcher if you're going to drink more than one beer with more than two people. The new ownership of The Hitching Post really shows. The place is great, and I'd recommend for anyone in the Apache Junction area to stop by for a great meal. read more

On the way up to a hike in the Superstitions my friends and I passed a sign that said "broasted chicken," which kind of set me aback for a moment. I thought to myself, "Roasted, broiled, roasted by a bro?" I didn't really know, nor did I suspect I would ever have any more information on the subject. Then we stopped and ate at the Hitching post after a short hike at the Garden Loop. Prices - Calzone - 8.99 Burgers 7-9 Pizza 10-18? I wasn't certain. Starters 4-7. The Hitching Post is right next to some fuel pumps and has a large rooster out front. Once inside it kind of has a western saloon feel. A little dull and drab. The menu was surprisingly diverse, although overtly unhealthy, I'm sure, the food offerings were things that I'd want. Some of the starters were interesting such as 'fried chicken gizzard,' 'broasted potato wedges' and the like. Their main offerings fell into the category of pizza although they also have this broasted chicken and some burger options that you have to look at the back page fold out to find. The waitress that worked with us was incredibly knowledgeable and to the point with the menu, which made the experience better. According to her broasted chicken is placed in a pressure cooker with a certain amount of canola oil so that the chicken is basically flash fried from what I gather, locking in the juices. Based on her description we were persuaded to get some wings, (I think 6 were $6). The wings were solid. I paired that with a sausage and pepperoni calzone that was slightly greasy, heavy on the cheese and overall incredibly tasty. My friends (3) chose the 16" Tumbleweed pizza - (onions, jalapenos, and something else I believe). The slices were gratuitous and it easily fed the three of them. They also have approximately 5-6 draft beers available that come in mason jars. The hefeweizen was rather tasty on a warm day. They also have outdoor seating, but it is not covered. read more

I have lived in the area for 10 years and have never been to The Hitching Post. A non-descript little joint off the trail, with a huge co....rooster out front. When we walked in, I thought it was pretty cool. What I found uncool was the picnic table family-style seating. The wait staff was friendly enough, but wasn't around when you needed them. At the lunchtime hour, the poor girl we had was all over the place, seemingly the only server working. The menu had some interesting eats, from rattlesnake, frog legs and gizzards to pizza, sandwiches and burgers. I had a frosty Strongbow Gold and a Western burger. The real steak burger was tasty. It was cooked just like I ordered it, was flavored well and was a good size. I was impressed by the fries. They.were.the.jam! Crisp and well-flavored, these too were not in short supply. My husband accidentally spilled a full beer in his dollar store flimsy plastic cup, and the girl told him not to worry, that she'd take care of it. After we cleaned it up ourselves and she brought a fresh beer, we were dismayed that he was still charged for it after the conversation. Oh well, it was his fault after all, just a bummer. I think I will come here again after the snowbirds go home though. They monopolize the seating and the staff, and the experience would have been more enjoyable with regular rednecks and not pretend ones from Manitoba. I have been going here for broasted chicken for years and always take our out of town guests there for broasted chicken. I went over there today with some out of town guests and ordered. The waitress brought our meals and told us that the cook made a chicken breast and a leg instead of a thigh. I told her that I don't like white meat so that won't work. Then she said that one of the other orders was wrong not mine. I asked is that a thigh on my plate, because it was so big and she said yes. Well it was a breast not a thigh. I took two bites of it and didn't eat anymore. I told her that I needed a credit and she said that was not possible then she lied and said she didn't tell me that it was a thigh. Then she went to speak to the owner and came back and said the owner would not give me a credit. So I paid $16 for 1 drumstick, 2 Potatoe wedges and 2 bites of a breast!!!! I have taken so many people over there for meals and I will NEVER go there again. They may have gotten me today but they are not smart enough to realize that they will lose a lot more money in the future!!!! Repeat customer will never ever come back. Many issues: 1. Internet Menu did not reflect restaurant menu when we arrived. Price difference of two dollars per steak. 2. When we received our bill the steaks increased another 3 dollars per steak. So what they had in their system did not reflect the menu price. This is unacceptable. The waitress honored the menu price and reduced the amount. 3. After we paid we noticed there was an extra charge to use a credit card. This was an extra 6 dollars and WAS NOT communicated to us when we handed over the credit card for payment. 4. We complained that one of the steaks, the rib eye, was extremely tough. The owner said he serves 300 steaks a day and never had a complaint essentially calling us liars. We planned on having additional drinks and watch the bull riders but after items 3 and 4 we did not want to give this man another dollar. Deceptive business practices with bait and switch tactics along with an owner who doesn't care about his customers will prevent us from ever ever returning. We also supported him with his legal battles with the city until this happened. Not any more. Fun place with typical Junction decor. Good pizza crust which is key for us. Only one server so plan to wait for refills and check. Good broasted wings. They are in violation of ADA regs for service dogs and will end up being fined if they continue their illegal practices. We were not denied service but had to argue about "credentials" which cannot be requested by any business. Refused to read the copy I offered. Sad. No AC so probably hot in the summer.
