This Afternoon I experienced one of the most horrific experiences I've ever dealt with in business.I am a semi professional Musician who's been doing it for over 30 years.I primarily play guitar.Last November my acoustic guitar needed some repair work as it was not sounding up to par.I had an important performance coming up and my regular repairman was out of town and could not do the repair in time. Its been said its best to go to a smaller specialist instead of the chain stores like Sam Ash or Guitar Center. With nobody else i could think of, I stumbled online to a guy not far from me who calls himself The Hobbit Luthier and goes by the name of Cory.I went to his place in Chelsea, left the guitar there and to my amazement it was close to 3 times the price the my regular guy charges. He said it was for repairs that 'should have been done long before. My regular guy is one of the tops in his field but i was in dire need of the guitar so i accepted the transaction. It was $135.Smitten,he then replaced the saddle and said in the spring i should come back and put on a new one because climate affects the guitar.Well here we are in Spring.I called him said 'Hi you remember me and told him i have a loose knob on the bottom side of my guitar where the pickup [electronics] are which bring out the amplification. If prolonged which it was already was, it could do serious damage to the electronics that may not be repairable. Also,it was time for another neck adjustment which is the standard for guitar repairman. It was in my estimation an easy $150 job at least. To my surprise, he sounded like he didn't know what i was talking about. However, he said i could see him for an appointment at his home.We made one but i called to tell him I'd like to make it another day because i was in a total rain storm and wasn't about to get the guitar in this condition [even with case] drenched and would not be able to get there at designated time anyways.A few days later [today'] I call him and he says 'Hi how are you'.I ask him if i can come by and he tells me in a dry sullen tone 'Dude this is a total waste of my time' Don't call me anymore' . This is a guy on his myspace webpage clearly advertises 'he will even come to you' and is looking for 'anyone with a broken guitar'.I wasn't even given the chance to speak about the additional work on the guitar i requested. Why? Click.Hang up.We hear about the little guy getting booted by the big corporations but this individual has no business advertising his services or taking anybodies nickel.Maybe he hung up because he closed down. For all you guitar players looking for a repair,Stay Away. This 'Dude' is trouble. read more
