I'm back! The restaurant is located at 305 South Main St. in Manchester, CT. I like the happy hours at golf clubs. This one is 3-6 Sunday-Thursday. The music is nice too! They all seem to add a bit of class. For my first drink, I'm am having a Cosmopolitan. A Cosmopolitan (or Cosmo) is a popular pink cocktail made with vodka, triple sec (or Cointreau), cranberry juice, and fresh lime juice, typically shaken and served in a martini glass. It's known for its tart, fruity, and slightly sweet flavor profile, often garnished with an orange twist. While served in a martini glass, it's not a true martini as it lacks vermouth. The drink has nice presentation, chilled, garnished and well-balanced. For my first food item, I'm having a Chef's Salad. A chef salad is a hearty American main-course salad with a base of lettuce topped with various ingredients like hard-boiled eggs, one or more meats (such as ham, turkey, or chicken), cheese, tomatoes, and cucumbers, often with croutons and a vinaigrette or ranch dressing. I am having vinaigrette for my dressing. Oh yeah! Nice restating! This is good! I see romaine lettuce, olives, eggs, turkey, ham, canned green and red peppers, pepperoni, cheese, picked onions, cucumbers, etc. It's a big portion size for $7! For my next food item, I'm having the (1/2 lb) Mussels. Mussels are a popular, sustainable, and nutritious seafood known for their briny flavor, often served steamed in broth with wine, garlic, and herbs, and paired with crusty bread. They are filter feeders, rich in protein, omega-3s, and vitamin B12, and are farmed responsibly, making them an environmentally friendly choice that improves water quality. These are good you. They are hot. I like the grilled, buttered bread. Make sure to squeeze the lemon on top. This is the "red" inversion (white is an option). These are good! I love this broth! For my next food item, I'm having the Bogner's Chili Cheese Dog. Bogner Quality Meats in Manchester, CT, offers a selection of premium, house-made hot dogs and franks, featuring all-beef skinless, natural casing, and kielbasa dogs. Known for high-quality meats since 1942, they also offer bulk 5 lb packages, perfect for grilling, along with a full service butcher counter. I only get to eat this kind twice a year! This is all beef and locally made. What's better than this?! This is great!!! Love that pickle and those thick kettle chips! For my second drink, I'm having a margarita. A Margarita is a classic cocktail made with tequila, orange liqueur (like Cointreau or triple sec), and lime juice, often served in a salt-rimmed glass with a lime wedge garnish. It can be served shaken and "on the rocks" (with ice), blended with ice, or straight up, and variations include different tequilas (like reposado) or sweeteners like agave syrup. No margarita glass or sake/sugar rim but it is nicely garnished and tastes good. The floating orange is odd. Still, it's quite good! For my next food item, I'm having the Geno's Meatballs. Gino D'Acampo's traditional meatball recipe features a mix of minced pork and beef, soaked bread, egg, pecorino cheese, and parsley, typically simmered in a simple tomato sauce. For best results, brown the meatballs in olive oil, then simmer slowly for at least 30 minutes to two hours for a rich flavor. I like the cheese strips on top. Lots of sauce! These taste great! For my last drink, I'm having a Vodka Mule. A Moscow Mule is a refreshing, vodka-based cocktail made with lime juice and spicy ginger beer, traditionally served in a copper mug which keeps it extra cold. To make one, combine vodka, fresh lime juice, and ice in a mug, then top with chilled ginger beer and garnish with a lime wedge or wheel. It's a simple, no-shaker-needed drink that's popular for its balance of spicy, sweet, and tart flavors. I like the copper mug! It's chilled, nicely garnished and well balanced. For my last item, I've been dying to try the Special- a bork of Legume Soup. Lentil soup is a hearty, nutritious soup made with lentils as the main ingredient, often featuring a base of sautéed onions, carrots, and garlic, simmered in broth with spices like cumin and turmeric, and finished with fresh herbs and lemon juice. It's a staple in many cultures, known for being filling, economical, and rich in protein and fiber, with variations using different lentils (red, green, brown) and additions like kale, potatoes, or pasta. I like the cute, little crock pot. These are good crackers. It's nice and hot. It came out fast too! For my last item, I'm having the Southwest Chicken Eggrolls. I've never tired these here!Southwest egg rolls are crispy, deep-fried appetizers typically filled with shredded chicken, black beans, corn, red bell peppers, spinach, and Monterey Jack cheese. We order take out from them and we're highly disappointed. Ordered "the cut " and it was by far the worst fried chicken sandwich I've had . Has garlic Mayo but the garlic is so overpowering you can't taste anything else but garlic and grease . The fried chicken was SO greasy it made the hoagie bread soggy and was SO thin ! It was fried so hard it made the chicken inedible.Very Wilted lettuce and tomatoes .The chicken was also so thin and fried sI also ordered it with fries and the fries were just thrown in a brown paper lunch bag instead of any packaging . All around delicious food with a nice view of the reservoir and golf green. It was quiet Saturday at noon, with a few people at the bar and some groups who shuffled in after us. I'm guessing once golf season is in full swing it'll be busier. We tried the chicken tenders, cool ranch onion rings, US Open burger, tomato soup, sweet potato fries, pebble beach turkey burger, a flatbread pizza, and a few other things I don't recall. Tried out this place for dinner at the Manchester Country Club. Ambience is good, they have seating nicely spaced and a nice looking bar, good place for drinks and chatter after a good golf game. Quality of service and hospitality is really good, I really appreciate our waitress for taking care of our table. Food is slightly okay, the nachos were good. It the chili had garbanzo beans which is surprising. Don't order the filet mignon it was tasting weird, The US Open Burger was really good and my son wants to go back there for just trying it one more time. Salads are alright nothing great, Desert quantity is slightly larger than expected. Price is reasonable, Special shout out to our waitress who took feedback about the Nachos and the filet and gave us the deserts and Nachos complimentary on the house. I'm not sure if Corey Wry has anything to do with this place anymore but my first visit here fell short of my expectations in just about every way. Even though they weren't that busy it seemed to take a bit longer than I expected. Starting with the chili they charge $8 for. It is supposed to come with cheese, sour cream, scallions and tortilla chips. The bowl was not as full as it could have been for that price but it was missing the sour cream and scallions and no tortilla chips. As for the taste of it, nothing special or impressive and not many beans. For the price there's no way I would get this again and forgetting everything it comes with is a total deal-breaker. I got a Rachael sandwich which is typically supposed to be like a Reuben but with cole slaw instead of sauerkraut. I chose chips as my side but also added a side of cole slaw for $2 extra, which was also MISSING from the order. I paid for the extra side yet they forgot to include it. The sandwich itself was 'ok' but nothing like what i expected, there was no swiss cheese to be found and the Russian dressing was extremely light if it was there at all. Tasted nothing like what I'd call a Reuben or a Racheal because of these ommissions. The chips (house made potato chips) were cold from the minute I picked them up and tasted a bit on the stale side. So for a very pricey lunch it seemed to fail on every level. Perhaps my expectations were a little high, but even with none this was a 0 star meal. It's a nice enough restaurant inside and they do a number of wine dinners and have a variety of entrees and other things but after this, I'm not sure it's worth the trip even if it were more reasonable in price. Upon noticing everything wrong with my order I called the restaurant only to get an answering machine. Nearly an hour later and I haven't received a call back. Pretty good burger, pretty nice if not tiny place I've been looking for more places to try, and The Hollow is one of those places that I generally overlook because I don't usually fall into the income brackets of the patrons of these locations. Today, I wanted to go fancy. So I looked up some fancy places and decided to go to this restaurant in a country club. First off, Not really fancy. It's small, being essentially the entertaining space underneath the country club upstairs. I came in my finest gaming decor and was given a seat in the far corner. The waitress/bartender had the unfortunate duty of having to go around the entire bar to address my table. which was a bit cruel since it meant every time she had to address my table she had to do a lap. Might've been easier to sit me at the bar and let me order from there. But either way, made due. I looked over their menu and realized that their food wasn't really fancy either. Burgers, Salads, wraps, and a couple of noteworthy entrees. To me, it was a little bit of a letdown. But I do like me my burger places, so I decided to get The Brit. A white peppercorn aoli, whiskey BBQ glazed beef patty with carmelized onions and cheddar cheese on a pretzel bun. I asked about their fries, told they were fresh, so I get the fries to replace the potato chips. Food comes out reasonably quickly, and I take some pictures and dig in. The burger was seasoned well! Everything had a distinct flavor and everything melded well. The onions were reduced down to a nice onion-y jam, the peppercorns were ever-present and gave the burger a nice zing. The whiskey bbq was potent and present, and the cheddar was just the right amount of sharp and stretchy. Burger was cooked to a medium rare, though I asked for medium. still cooked well, and I enjoyed the flavors presented. The weakest part was the pickle and the french fries. The waitress lied to me, told me they were fresh fries when they are clearly frozen bagged fries from Restaurant Depot. The fries themselves were fine, but if you're told fresh and you get bagged then that's a problem. The pickle was made in-house, but they either stored the pickles at the back of the fridge or froze the pickles beforehand. Lead to these translucent spots on the pickle, and the actual pickle flavor was a little weak. despite the flaws, the place was well kept. The burger was delicious, and it was only the minor details that made this experience not stellar. It's not a fancy place for a meal, but it's an option if you're shooting 18 rounds and need a bite to eat read more

Definitely intended on giving my experience a 5 star review until receiving a notification from my credit card that I left a 123% tip. The restaurant put that I left a $54 tip on a $44 check. Giving them the benefit of the doubt and assuming it was an accident, I will only take off 1 star. But make sure you check your credit card afterwards! I likely wouldn't have noticed if my credit card hadn't notified me. Aside from that everything was great. Service was great at the bar, our bartender was always making sure we didn't need anything else or want to order more food. We were there for happy hour and were impressed with the prices and portions. For $3, the sliders were absolutely delicious. I also had the tacos, which were decent, and my mom ordered the chicken slider which she was satisfied with. However, the star of the show was definitely the burgers as we suspected going in. I saw many people around ordering other happy hour food which all looked great (especially the quesadilla!). Drinks were strong and tasty. I would definitely return. When we walked in, nobody paid any attention to us. Finally, some gruff guy yells be right with you in an uncaring voice. The view was nice but the food was terrible. My wife and I ordered the MCC and Caesar salads and split a chicken quesadilla. It was like eating cardboard. For $45 it was beyond awful. I came here on a Tuesday afternoon to meet a friend for happy hour. I didn't realize that the country club at this gold course offered a happy hour and was excited to try it out! It seems they are doing a lot of construction and upgrading of a lot of buildings so it was very pretty looking. The outside patio near the water was especially nice. We were seated right away and you could have happy hour from any table, not just the bar, which was great. The happy hour menu was also pretty large with a lot of options. The buffalo chicken dip was especially good and a great deal for the cost. Some things like the tacos were a bit small for the price, but overall still good food. I'd recommend a stop in! read more

It's been awhile since I dined here, but I remember a delicious salad loaded with goodies. But my lunch this week was forgettable. I ordered the Knife and Fork Salad, which was advertised as iceberg and romaine lettuce, roasted cherry tomatoes, avocado, crumbled bacon, hard-boiled egg, pepitas, and the option of protein; I chose grilled chicken. First, there was not a single leaf of romaine, just a big chunk of unshredded iceberg lettuce, an affront to salads everywhere. The tomatoes were the best part, and the blue cheese dressing was pretty good; but the egg was over-boiled (green around the yolk) and the chicken was also overcooked, dry and tough. The wine selection was dismal, pretty much only NZ whites. I chose pinot noir, but it was harsh and unpleasant. My server was friendly and conscientious. I would have preferred eating on the patio, with a view of the first hole and the pond, but it was too windy; the interior was dark. All in all, not the restaurant I remembered. read more

I'm giving the 'winter Hollow' 4 stars. I cannot wait for spring/summer, when I will be back to sit outside & give a 5 star rating. The Hollow is at Manchester country club ( a Geno run restaurant). Thursday night, we decided to take the short drive over for dinner. I had been there for lunch in the summer - sitting out on the patio, overlooking the golf course - nice. Dinner in the winter was a different experience. The room feels like a basement ( which it technically is). And it was packed! All ages. Happy hour runs Sunday - Thursday, 3:00 to close. $2/can of beer. $6 margarita - ok. And I'd heard the chef (Cory - from Ketchup & Mustard) made his awesome burgers. Which they were. Food took a while to come out, but I'm sure it was perhaps short staffed kitchen staff. So - nice servers, good drinks, wonderful food ( we just tried burgers this time), and reasonable prices. Perhaps some music would help to improve the winter ambience? In the summer, the view alone will suffice to make the place wonderful. read more

sorry folx, scathing review incoming so, this is based solely on the service, zero stars. i would rate the food, but i didnt get any so.... went with the misses for lunch, no kids, this is blue moon material. she wanted to give it a try, i had a free lunch hour from work, off we go. we entered and lets just say, not greeted appropriately (**i changed what i wrote to protect humanity and yelp itself, trust me, i was not thrilled with any of the attitude). we ordered drinks and then placed our orders after a couple more minutes and waited. and waited and waited. i finished my drink, she finished hers, we watched some golf. after 40 minutes, we were approached by our server, we were asked to confirm our very simple orders (cheese burger and a grilled cheese, complicated), this is a tell tale sign that someone forgot to put in our orders. we were then told, we were going to have refills and that our food was just another minute. odd as that sounded, i know the people around us didnt have their lunch confirmed 40 minutes after they ordered, so after 75 seconds, we approached the server and asked her if it was really done, i was on my lunch hour and as there was no food, likely going to run into company time! we were ASSURED it was just another minute. after 7 more minutes of hem and haw internally, i saw our server with drinks for another table, knew were werent event getting a refill said this was enough, took my partner and left. in the parking lot, i saw and heard someone ask out loud if they saw that table who drank and left, so i decided that we should take the higher road and go back in, seemed like the food was there. **i had a whole section about the service and lackluster, i took it out as perhaps it wasnt their day, needless to say, i would have LOVED to include all the details. thanks again for charging us for fountain drinks after ruining our afternoon, i hope that $5.63 in beverage charges makes up for this great review!) so in sum, i wanted to eat, they couldnt get it together, thanks to the excellent service, i have no interest in coming back. read more

Our favorite lunch stop. Everyone enjoyed their food from the Buffalo Chicken Wrap to Philadelphia cheese steak sandwiches. The standard side is their homemade potato chips. Ive done miniature golf a few times. Real golf? Never. Can't imagine watching it on tv. So what brings me here? Catsup and Mustard in Manchester going out of business. I was a huge fan, it was my favorite burger place around, and it was always crowded so many must have agreed. Then one day... it was gone. WTF! A sad day in my burger world. So when I heard the head honcho Corey Wry had taken over chef duties at The Hollow, that was all I needed to know. So what went wrong????? Good question. Ambience wise the place is a flop. It's like some catering facility in a basement, where you may hold the yearly office party or something. White walls, plain furniture, it does have a bar in the room with a few bottles of this and that. I guess golfers dont need a selection, Makers Mark...check. We got there around 8pm on a Thursday. Four fancily dressed older folks were leaving as we got there, maybe they stopped for dinner after an early evening of 'chamber music' somewhere. Gowns and tuxes at a country club? They were not discussing the wonderful meal. One other table had four people dressed in more casual attire, otherwise the place was empty. Waitstaff appeared to be getting ready to shut down, closes at 9pm. Whatever! HOW WAS THE FOOD???] Depends on who you ask. I ordered a patty melt on rye with shrooms and grilled onions. One of my faves from the Catsup and Mustard place. Did it hold up to its previous incarnation? Sorta!! More or less! Perhaps seemed smaller, but the flavor profile was comparable, and it had the Corey Wry vibe. What about the HOUSE MADE CHIPS? Uhhhh...nay. Maybe if they wer'nt stale. If it's the end of the night, and you got stale chips out back, suggest the fries to your customers. If I insist on chips, say your'e out of em, I will never know and I wont be here on Yelp 'outing' you on your stale chips. But the biggest flop was the FORK AND KNIFE salad. Kinda like a wedge salad, with decent iceberg lettuce at the bottom. But, not sure what else was going on there. Over complicated by sourly seasoned grape tomato's, some avocodo to the right, a blob of chopped bacon'ey bits to the left. Sitting on top was a mystery substance that looked like shredded cheese but wasnt. The wife thinks it's some kind of thick cabbagey stuff, me...I have no idea. As for the house made blue cheese dressing, where was that? I would have asked the waitress, but...where was she? We had already called the bartender over for the salad burger fiasco. What was that you ask? You can order additions to the salad. Back in the Catsup and Mustard days you could get this big salad and have a burger thrown on top. So we tried that here and the result was a RAW burger tossed on top. Yah, it had touched a grill once, for a few seconds, otherwise it was raw burger. Thus we flagged the bartender and she took it away and came back with it...cooked. How you do give a customer a raw burger, in these E-Coli days? Especially when ordered medium? Nope. How does the kitchen send out a blue cheese salad with no bleu cheese dressing? Seems everybody just wanted to go home. Thats ok. Till some Yelp review schmuck writes a story about it. I was here for lunch the other day and was very impressed. Chef Luca is the best there is and I'm looking forward to see what he puts together in the future. The menu is huge with lots of options which is nice. I started with the Garlic Parm wings which were very tender and flavorful. For my main dish I had "The Masters" burger which was very tasty. Wow! If you miss Catsup and Mustard formerly in Manchester you'll love The Hollow burgers. Large portions and exactly as a burger should be. US Open and 5th Major were both delicious! Tender flavorful burgers with fresh flavorful toppings on everything pretzel buns were simply perfection. Sweet potato fries with maple mayo and plain fries were also perfect. This place is on a golf course. We came on a Friday afternoon and the place was packed. There didn't seem to be a hostess as we waited a bit to be acknowledged. I believe the manager got us a table. It was outside and right on the course. The views were beautiful although it was a pretty loud place. You definitely had to raise your voice to talk. Our waitress had to be flag over because no one came to our table for quite some time but when she did, we were able to put in our order I ordered the Brit as I heard burgers where their thing. My daughter got the classic pepperoni flatbread. The service overall took a long time from start to finish and we found ourselves sitting there looking around more than we actually were enjoying our lunch. I think it was something going on there as well, but there wasn't really a lot of signs posted to let us know that, so maybe that's the reason why it was so delayed with their service. When we got the food, it was pretty tasty although the burger was completely full of peppercorns, which was OK, but not really expected kind of over powered the burger at times. The pizza was ok. We stumbled upon this place and so glad we did. The dining area is smallish but very open and bright overlooking a lake. There were geese waddling around the grounds. I cannot wait to return on a warmer, sunny day and sit out on the patio. The food was well prepared and offered some unusual choices. I had an everything chopped salad with a salmon portion for 19.00 and was only able to eat 1/2. My husband had crispy sole and ate every bit of it . Terrible steak. My husband and I were prepared to order different entrees, but the waitress came and told us the specials. Filet mignon? Oh yeah we'll take that! Um 45 minutes later and these steaks were legit microwaved. So gross. We told the waitress and she said, " I'm sorry to hear that." Then she brought us the $85 bill. I've been coming here for years. The new remodel from the old is a great improvement. They did a fantastic job! The people that work there are great, the bar is fantastic and the atmosphere wonderful. The food menu was pretty good until they took the steak off the Menu last week. Big mistake! They are trying make this a restaurant for not just Golfers but for the public, so what higher end or regular restaurant does not have steak on the menu? Had an excellent dinner with friends. Everyone enjoyed all their meals. The tables are still separated so everyone was so comfortable and it was quiet enough to have great conversations. My only objection was having to look at a TV screen with Fox News on it. Even though I couldn't hear it I could see it. Going out with friends that we've hadn't seen in 2 years because of the pandemic was a much looked forward to time to get away from politics and all that is happening in our world. Hands down this was the best Reuben I've had in ages. The corned beef was tender, bread was toasted just right and everything was delicious.
