So, this happened. The nice new barmaid gave me change of £2.80 out of a tenner. Which is fine. If I'd given her a tenner. I didn't. I gave her £20. Unlike me, I did not check my change and only realised when I went to get another drink and discovered I had didn't have enough money. I debated with myself for a good few minutes (didn't want to get the new girl into trouble on her first night) but then I politely asked if she could check the till. She asked the more experienced barmaid who said they don't really check it until the end of the night but if I was certain then that was fine. She returned my £10 and I ordered another two beer. The new barmaid then gave me £1.80 change out of the tenner rather than the £2.80. I decided to ignore that. First night on a new job and all that.
All in all, I was impressed that they dealt with it there and then rather than arguing, and I'm sure they get their fair share of chances. A big thumbs up from me!
The establishment itself has only been open for around a year, after taking over from the doomed Coyles. A lot of remodelling and removing walls inside has made this place feel spacious and trendy rather than the cost cramped incarnation it once was. There is live music almost every night and it has a very open cosmopolitan feel about it.
Perhaps the beast feature however is the beer garden. With an outside bar, reminiscent of an island getaway. They also have an outdoor wood fired pizza stone and a keg barbeque. Definitely one of the cooler trendier places in Bangor, with the town itself seeing a huge change in bars and restaurants over the last few years. Very recommended by me!! read more
