Company has gone downhill. Plants shipped 2 weeks late, arriving when we were out of town so this means we paid $30 for dead plants. Meanwhile they send out a long email about why shipments were sent late and asking not to put them out of biz asking for refunds. I used to love this company and they had great end of the season sales which resulted in me ordering way too many hosta. But I think they have changed hands since those days and I am distressed to read the current reviews. I guess I will just split the hosta that I have or find another source. My stars are based on prior experience, not current so I would trust more current reviews. read more

This is a good company that has had some bad luck. When orders became delayed due to a serious illness in the family, they sent out an email to the outstanding orders (I was one) offering a refund, or the ability to delay shipping till cooler weather so the plants would not die during shipment. I chose to wait and low and behold I just received all my plants that I ordered and they all look healthy and happy to be in their new garden home in Iowa. I look forward to expanding my garden collection in the future with this company. Between this order and the previous ones, I've added over a dozen new varieties to my garden and it's looking great! Yes they could do a better job at communicating with customers, but all-in-all I have a beautiful garden thanks to their selection. read more

I placed 1 order a year ago and received the plants. They were fine. In mid April this year I placed another order for 9 hostas that was supposed to ship the week of April 25th. Never received order. I emailed the company and they said they would check on the order. I never heard back so I emailed again and never received a reply. My order was made last fall. It arrived a week late (a critical week in a Minnesota fall). Most of the plants survived the winter, to their credit. I attempted to contact them several times about replacing the few that didn't survive. I only got one response, indicating the normal customer service person (Greg) had had a family emergency but she (Debbie) would be happy to help. But she never offered a solution and has not responded to my emails since the one response. read more

I have been a customer of The Hosta Farm for years. I could count on them for great plants at reasonable prices with quick service. However, this year has seen a great company go to the lowest depths of customer service. I place and order in April that I still don't have. I realize they have had family health issues, but the good will of their customers goes just so far. When the only E-Mail address listed for them doesn't work, and they don't return phone calls, it's time to call it quits. I'd give them a ZERO rating if it were an option. They will have to do a huge amount of outreach for me to consider buying from them again. read more

I preordered plants from the Hosta Farm/Gorge Top Gardens, LLC in November for a May 18th shipment (just in time for spring). I called in May 22nd to ask when I could expect my shipment: LIE #1: UPS doesn't deliver the week of Memorial Day (the entire week??) LIE #2: Your plants will be going out next week. I called the following week asking for a UPS tracking number, so I could track my shipment, NO RETURN CALL. I emailed them the week after that, they responded with LIE #3: Your shipment will be sent at the end of next week. I emailed them again, because no one answers the phone there. I insisted on a ups tracking number, NO RESPONSE! I called again the other day and left a very upset message telling them how I have been waiting for my shipment, my garden is past its completion date because of this shipment!!! It is now June 17th and still no plants. I cannot believe that this company is still in business! No response, no explanation and then to be lied to, repeatedly! Who treats their customers this way? Well, I finally got a response back, after I threatened them with the BBB, my refund check is in the mail! SO here I am with no plants, I have checked other Nurseries in the area, everyone is out of stock!! WHY LIE?? Why not say, hey we can't fill your order, back in MAY, so that I could get the I needed?? WTH! This morning I received my refund check and a letter, it stating that in February they had a snow storm that caused extensive damage, they don't have the inventory, sorry. You know, I could have worked with that, except THEY CONTINUED TO LIE!! and let me without my plants! How inconsiderate, unprofessional, unethical can one company get! I placed different large orders late in 2015 to be delivered in May 2016, I have called and e-mailed multiple times, to no avail. I've been very nice and said they could still mail me the plants since they claimed hardships, but nada. I am in 100% agreement with the previous reviewer. The same thing happened to me. Ordered hostas for Mothers Day, still haven't seen them. I did get a tracking number with the first attempted delivery but it never came. UPS told me it ended up in Virginia and was shipped back to the sender. I have sent 3 emails and each time I get a response that my hostas are being shipped but with no tracking number. I have been on vacation twice and had to have someone come by my house each day while I'm gone to check if they had come. I have called and left messages and never get a return call. I have asked for a refund and all I get is an email saying my hostas are being shipped. If they truly are having inventory problems they should've said that from the beginning. Won't use the Hosta Farm again and wouldn't recommend them to anyone. read more

If you like flushing your money down the drain and dealing with sub-par customer service, The Hosta Farm is the place for you!. I ordered plants in May of this year and received more than half of them, although I was charged for them all. I requested the missing plants to be sent and after 4 months of waiting, I gave up and requested a refund. Haven't received that either. And don't bother leaving a message on their answering machine; they can't be bothered to return it. Stupidly I purchased more plants when they were offering a sale, and big surprise, they still haven't shipped them either, two months later (although they certainly didn't delay in taking my money from my account the very same day I placed my order). You can bet I finally learned my lesson to not give them a third try. read more

I ordered 10 bloom-a-thon azalea plants last summer. 1 arrived in poor condition and 3 others didn't survive and based on their 1-year guarantee, I asked for replacement plants or a refund. I was told they would replace them in the spring. I contacted them in April and was told they would send me replacement plants. I never received them. All subsequent communications with them (email and phone were ignored). In June, I filed a complaint with the state of VA and was told I would receive a refund for the 4 plants and a $20 coupon. I received a check for only half the amount. I have had to contact the state of VA again to reopen the case to get the rest of my refund - which is still pending. PLEASE let me first say that I'm sad to write this review. My birthday is in mid-march and I was looking forward to Spring planting. I ordered 20 plants over $100 on February 7th with the notion that they would be shipped out the week of March 18th. I was looking forward to my birthday present of digging in the dirt and the roots of Mother Nature in my fingers. To my dismay not only have I not received the shipment, which I'm fine with a delay I know it's been a tough winter. But the true problem is the customer service. I've been calling/emailing for 3 weeks now and no one will reach out as a courtesy to let me know a status. DO NOT FALL FOR THIS SCAM. I WAS SO EXCITED, MY BEDS ARE READY AND I WOULD JUST LIKE THE PLANTS I ORDERED. SHAME ON THIS COMPANY. HOW PATHETIC YOU ARE THAT YOU CAN TAKE MY MONEY BUT NOT HAVE THE DECENCY TO UPDATE ME. I placed an order in September and after numerous phone messages my order was shipped in October. The hosta's were very small pieces and one would never grow. ( I am also a seasoned gardener ) I have called and left messages for 2 months and have never received a response in any way. The Hosta Farm in Virginia is a complete con. I ordered plants in December and a second in February for an early April delivery. Today is the 28th and I have yet to receive any plants. Finally yesterday I receive an email telling me that one of my orders is being shipped without any mention of the second. They NEVER answer their phone claiming they are too busy packing plants. This is June and still no plants. After being ignored when I tried several times to get a response to where are my plants, I told them I wanted my money returned. As expected, I received no response. I began ordering plants from the Hosta Farm in 2013. I was pleased with the delivery and quality of the plants in the spring of 2014. After that, it was all downhill!!! I pay for my plants months in advance and choose a delivery date. When it came time to deliver my orders in 2015 nothing arrived. After numerous unanswered phone calls and emails, I was advised there was storm damage which caused delays in the shipping. It was a harsh winter and I was patient. Yet after weeks of no plants, I became annoyed and continued my barrage of emails and phone messages. My order was supposed to arrive early April and finally arrived in June!!!!! I gave them one last chance. I placed orders in November and December 2015 for plants to arrive early April 2016 for a landscaping job. No plants and more excuses. This year the east coast experienced an extremely mild winter so storm damage doesn't fly. It appears this company takes your money but has no one to fill the orders. Sounds like greed has gotten the best of them. They refuse to hire anyone to fill orders because it takes money out of their pocket. I had asked for a refund several times but was informed by Greg that the plants had shipped. In fact, they had not. I guess Greg was hired on to the company in Kevin's place as the new company liar. The plants are somewhat expensive for the size but actually in good health and a good selection of varieties, which is why I gave them a last chance. If they hired some help, sent out the orders on time, filled them correctly, and stopped lying, this company would flourish. Instead they rack up dozens of negative comments for poor business practices and therefore rely on unsuspecting new customers. It would be to their benefit to retain repeat customers. read more
