    Scallop entree
    Greg R.

What a great evening!! Sat at the bar and had a drink before our dinner reservation! Bartenders were fantastic! Very comfy, welcoming bar! Once we were seated our waitress was extremely friendly and helpful! My wife ordered the oysters! Some of the best she's had in a while! I had the crab fingers which were good! Not sure what I was expecting, but they were good! Wifey ordered the scallop entree and I ordered a filet with blackened shrimp! The scallops were delish and cooked to perfection! The filet was cooked perfectly and was so tender! We split a side of Brussel Sprouts and were unbelievably good!! We caved in and ordered dessert! We split the Humingbird cake and the season Sorbet with a persecco float! Service was excellent!

Ambiance is delightful. Service is excellent. Food is amazing. My mother and I came up again this year from Charleston to spend the night at The George and have Thanksgiving dinner at The Independent. It was much busier this year than last year. We made our reservation at six o'clock, thinking that was early. But they began serving at noon, so were running low on food. The portions were a lot smaller this year, and they had completely run out of the chocolate pecan bourbon pie. Our waiter Zeke was excellent. We shall come earlier next year!

Hummingbird cake -- really sweet but tasty

Went for the first time tonight and will definitely return -- have been going to Chive Blossom for our nicer dining needs near Litchfield for years and years but The Independent definitely is in the mix now. Service was friendly and prompt, the ambiance is really pretty with marble tables and some pretty cool large light fixtures l. It definitely was getting loud by the time we left around 8:15 but I could still hear my wife across the table just fine. As to the food we shared the broccolini and the crab fingers to start -- both were delicious and I especially loved the breaded crab claws with the tasty remoulade. For my main I got the cornmeal crusted flounder and it was excellent (though the seafood stew under it was mostly under-seasoned tomatoes and turnips that were just ok) and my wife got the crab cakes with sea island red peas which were delicious. For dessert I got the hummingbird cake which was really sweet but tasty and my wife got the key lime pie which was topped with a huge dollop of meringue that a server brûlées table-side. All in all a fantastic meal

Absolutely fantastic meal and wine. Manager, Lane Calcutt and our amazing waitress Lovie, made us feel so welcomed and treated. The food was unbelievable and the service so quick. Up scale look and appeal but local atmosphere and treatment. Recommended a visit. Will go again soon.

    Caesar salad

2/5 star Caesar salad Tomatos add too much acidity, croutons of fried cheese are great as well as the Parmesan, however the salad had too little dressing and was served in a way where you had to cut it yourself. This only stands to benefit the enjoyer in terms of a mix of lettuce maturity. Overall a poor salad, but great restaurant experience!

Awesome food, great service. Had the filet mignon. Was cooked perfectly, excellent taste. Also had creamed corn, mashed potatoes, crab fingers and crab dip. Everything was great! Neat outdoor spot too. Clean bathrooms. Will be back.

Everything was absolutely amazing! Start to finish and what a great addition to the Georgetown restaurant community. I throughly enjoyed my experience there and would absolutely recommend and cannot wait to go back

    Golden Butterflies, the George Hotel

We love Georgetown, SC! It's the quintessential charming town of coastal South Carolina. And as liveaboards, we especially love good restaurants within walking distance of our boat. The Independent is located literally steps from Harborwalk Marina in the George Hotel, and offers fine dining at reasonable prices in a beautiful setting. Our family enjoyed meeting up with my parents to form our party of 6, and were able to get a reservation same day with a table next to the window view of downtown. Every dish was delicious with a twist on the typical. We started with the grilled Caesar salad with herbed walnuts and also, deviled eggs with smoked trout roe. Our entrees included scallops with pickled strawberries, crab cakes over red pepper aioli, and duck with roasted brussels. I have to mention the complimentary herb bread that is so good, and our fresh house made mango sorbet -so so refreshing and light, the creamy cre brûlée, and the decadent chocolate ganache cake for dessert. All were shareable and not to be missed! Our waitress, Lovee, was a delight, and very helpful with our selections and my Mother's celiac restrictions. We look forward to returning to enjoy the delicious cuisine, lovely atmosphere, and gracious staff!

Quite a dining experience. Everything from the decor, service, personality/engagement with waiter and food quality and presentation of food was amazing. Absolutely loved it and highly recommend. Flavors were out of this world together. We all raved of our dishes. Hummingbird cake was so light and delicious for dessert- good for sharing!

The sweetest card they brought us for our anniversary!

Truly the best dining experience we have had in the last 5+ years. We came with our 4 year old son to celebrate our wedding anniversary. They were so thoughtful and even brought us out a dessert and an anniversary card signed by the whole staff! They were also exceptionally accommodating to my son's gluten allergy and were extremely knowledgeable about their food and ingredients. Our waiter provided exceptional service, as did the rest of the staff. The food was incredible, large portions and came out quickly. We can't wait to come back!

Had an amazing date here with my boyfriend. The waitstaff were so friendly and helpful. This restaurant is literally stunning, the decor is so beautiful. Classy. Food was good, the chef made me a special vegan meal which was very much appreciated. My boyfriend enjoyed his fish and crab as well. We both had a delicious and strong old fashioned which was very good. Recommended and I would love to go again.

I purchased the Tea Service ahead of time. Everyone was very friendly but I will say, overly cautious. I had indicated that I have a tree nut allergy on the notes when I booked our reservation and I have never had an establishment refuse me service because of my allergy , but they did. For the life of me I couldn't understand why a slight adjustment couldn't be made to remove almonds from one tiny dish. They also refused to serve one of my daughters for a lactose intolerance note. I assured them it was ok and I had a lactaid for her to take, she'd be fine. I had only included that note because SOME places will offer alternatives. Ultimately, they served us but I had to sign a waiver, never have I ever until now. Most of the tea service items were very good with the exception of the tiny lemon chess pie which was curdled and tasted of rotten eggs, awful. The tea was excellent and the scones and curd and cream were great too. The area where the dining room is, is nothing fancy at all. It was decent but I was truly disappointed as I was hoping for something more extravagant for tea service. The plantation home, while nice was also truly underwhelming. Great history, good tour guide who was very knowledgeable and a great storyteller, but the house was not anywhere near as fancy as others I have visited. I think what was the biggest let down was that this was the first time my daughters were visiting any plantation home and it was not at all what I was hoping for them to see and experience. If I had known what it looked like more ahead of time, I would have chosen another location in the area. Pictures inside the home are not allowed.
