He met with me twice to go over what we wanted, asked intelligent, respectful questions and gave me 2 separate outlines to complete so things ran smoothly...and they did! And the music? Jay has a gift for reading his audience. We gave Jay a list of a 2-3 songs we wanted, 2-3 we definitely didn't want and we let Jay do the rest, and he did a FABULOUS job. We were not planning on having a DJ for our wedding so when we decided last minute that we were going to spend the money on one, we did our research and landed on Island DJ. His prices are very reasonable, so we honestly we're not sure what the quality was going to be like, but not only did he meet our expectations, but exceeded them in professionalism and all around an amazing time. As a same-sex couple, you tend to worry about certain things when it comes to your wedding, and our DJ made us feel incredibly comfortable and accommodating for all our request. But we can honestly say that the music made our wedding. We were a couple that have a very specific taste in music, and he was more than accommodating in meeting those needs. It's been almost two months since our wedding and our friends and family have not stop talking about the amazing music and awesome time that they had and I can honestly say that it's because of our DJ. read more

During the ceremony, the processional started with one of the songs from our Do Not Play List. This would have gone unnoticed, but halfway through the song, the music stopped abruptly - making it obvious that this was not the correct music. We understand that everyone makes mistakes, but this could have been handled in a more subtle way. To make matters worse, we requested that the recessional song start at a specific time - we put this in writing, discussed it during a call days before the wedding, and the wedding coordinator even included this in the itinerary. Instead the song started at the beginning, and didn't even play through to the part we wanted to hear in the first place. If we were told that it wasn't possible ahead of time, we would have selected a different song. We are also extremely disappointed with how the introductions were handled. We asked that our parents not walk out to the same song as the bridal party. We didn't select a specific song, but talked about selecting something more appropriate. Needless to say, they walked out to the same song as the bridal party. Again, things happen, so not a big deal. We provided a list of names with each person's "title" for the introductions. Despite having been provided with this information, our parents were introduced incorrectly - which made for an embarrassing situation for some of the people involved. To make matters worse, we had to switch the 2 bridesmaids around and Jay was extremely rude when we requested this change. I was told that I was "killing" him with this stuff and that he would have to redo his list. He asked if he could just introduce her the way he had it written down - which would have meant that he would have introduced her as the wrong person. Our bridal party consisted of 4 people, not including the bride and groom, so it should not have been terribly difficult to change 2 names. We filled out forms detailing our music preferences for the reception and included a wide variety of music, however he stuck more with hip hop, etc., alienating other guests. Not to mention, he was rude when they requested music. Additionally, we spoke about ending the first dance song a little early so we weren't dancing forever - he played the entire song. We discussed creating a mashup with our 2 college fight songs and asked for his opinion - wanting to know if he would be able to pull it off, will it work at a wedding, etc. - and were told that it wouldn't be a problem. We even asked that he not do it if he didn't think it would work. The outcome was horrible. Each song was played independently of the other - separated with a random song in between - which is exactly what we didn't want to happen. I understand that equipment breaks and things happen - it's a wedding, but the thing we find the most disappointing is the complete lack of professionalism throughout the evening. He announced that he was accepting requests and then was rude to our guests (including the groom), telling them "they were killing him" when they attempted to request songs. If he was not able to take requests, he should have let us know and should not have made the announcement. Overall, we are extremely disappointed with the service provided and would have asked for the tip envelope back, but didn't want to cause a scene on our wedding night. He's a little less than other DJs in the area, but apparently there's a reason for that. read more
