My mother-in-law got such great treatment and loving care and that's what I want my mother to receive. It's hard enough making that hard decision to place her in a facility. My family had experience with three different facilities and the care, concern, and communication that I saw from spring arbor staff was top notch. The facilities are clean and the staff is incredibly professional. My grandmother recently passed and the staff went to extraordinary measures to provide her comfort and showed such generosity of time and spirit to my family in a very difficult time. I told him I needed someone to take me to doctor's and help clean house. He brought a nice woman named Susan to help me. He wanted to know the days and hours I needed her and I gave them to him. He didn't tell me she had to stay four hours and she had to call him immediately after leaving and she was required to report what happened here. Twice I told her to leave early because I was sick and needed to be alone. She reported this to Benjamin Sawyer and he took my hours and days away from me without my knowledge. I called telling him I was upset over this. He threw it up to me that they weren't a taxi service. I said I told you in the beginning what I needed and you went along with it. I texted him I was still upset that Susan gave him a bad report. He texted me he wanted no more messages about being upset. I called him this morning and his wife answered. I tried to tell her there was a communication problem. I told him I liked Susan who he sent to help me and said I hope you all pay her for her mileage and he told me that was no concern of mine. The last call he said, "No wonder you're by yourself, Susan isn't coming back." This was when I tied in with him calling him a few choice words. Don't call him for help is my advice.

The care my mom has received from SHS has been great. It is easy to communicate with Ben and Kebe re: scheduling or other questions. My mom has enjoyed getting to know her caregivers, and we trust them with our mom's care. This is a unique caregiving model.

The dining room food is restaurant quality, with daily specials and a decent fixed menu if you don't want the specials. The fixed menu changes every couple months. The exercise classes are both mentally and physically engaging. There is a lovely movie theater room, art room, outdoor seating area and garden. At the entrance there is a grand piano, bar, and bistro. A resident recently taught a Zentangle class in the art room. She started with "The difference between Zentangle and doodling is mindfulness vs. mindlessness" and without missing a beat another woman said "and you think that's going to help us?!" while a third snorked. The location is unusual, literally minutes away from a hospital, doctors, rehab and temporary assisted living, restaurants (Wasabi has outstanding sushi and sashimi), Costco, hotels, grocery, shopping, plus a lake and outdoor amphitheater walking distance. There is a pool and water aerobic classes, PT. There is a physician's assistant who visits and makes rounds every Friday, simply email or call. The place allows dogs and there are quite a few from small to large. While it is independent living, some have personal assistants and they allow hospice for those couples who don't want to split up (eye opening, hadn't considered that prior to seeing this place). I had a long conversation with many of the residents who moved from other facilities and said there was no comparison. One resident moved the same time as my parents from another Atria facility in Durham (he's quiet until he wants to talk, and then you get a wealth of information). He loves the fact that management has the freedom to manage. Initially the lighting in the theater room was bad, and it took six months but they changed it and now the theater is lovely. He said they will entertain any reasonable request. While I personally didn't do the level of research into senior communities that my parents and sister did since I don't live in NC, the consensus and my experience show this is an outstanding residence and community.

Had we known earlier that Renaissance's level of consistent, higher quality family care existed, we would have selected them first. Their clean, safe, welcoming, and modern floor plan is designed to feel and look like home, serving no more than six residents. Consequently, our mom (then one of three residents) received individualized attention and compassionate care from the staff. She adjusted well, regained some of her mobility, energy and significant weight, and she resumed a regular diet and feeding herself. Although she passed away in January 2023, we are forever grateful to owners Rosa (an R.N.) and husband Ken Ogar and their team for making our queenly mom's last months more comfortable and loved. And so, we would like to thank Rose & Ken Ogar and their teams for caring for one of the most precious gifts God has given us - our mom Alice. Difficult at times and more feisty than her age can bear, our mother's life and health improved dramatically under their care. When she first was admitted, she was barely eating and then voila! - she began eating and talking incessantly despite her dementia. The food was wholesome and nourishing thanks to the CNA's they employ and their amazing cooking skills. Despite wearing briefs, our mom was always dry and if she wanted anything, they were at her side! Thank you for getting her up in the morning and for her bathing, her dressing, her toileting and her grooming. We would also like to take time to point out the extraordinary care our mom was given by these particular wonderful CNA's - Alicia, Kendra, Nisha and Vickie. A big thank you to all of the CNA's that took the time to do our mom's hair. It was always combed and we never had to ask. Thanks guys, for all you did to make our mother's stay an excellent one at Renaissance Care Home. From time to time, we will keep in touch to let you know how mom is fairing. Again, thank you for your patience, your tolerance and for giving this feisty 90 yr. old, sometimes cussing lady - your gracious care. Our family is truly indebted!

I know I express the sentiments of my entire family when I say that if you are seeking care for your elderly parent ... consider this firm. My mom (Mim) lived alone and independently in the family home until just the last few months of her life. At 97 she "allowed" us to send in a caregiver in the early morning and the late afternoon. We met with several agencies in the area and she immediately chose Touched by Angels ... primarily because during the interview sessions with Pam Parrot, Mim was the person to whom Pam directed her conversations ... not me ... not my sister or brother. We were blessed in that Mim was still "sharp as a tack" so this made it possible ... but so often, family members and agencies will talk over the elderly and make decisions which they feel are best. This was not the case with Pam. The caregivers who were selected to work with Mim were handpicked by Pam who talked enough with Mim to know her interests and hobbies. They quickly became more than just helpers ... they became dear and trusted friends. On the day Mim took a big downturn and it was discovered that her doctor was out of the country, Pam was there helping me make that tough decision to transfer her to the hospital. Then on what was surely the hardest day of my life when the hospital transferred Mim to a nursing home, who showed up for moral support ... Pam Parrot. It's important to note that the weatherman was calling for extreme weather that morning (sleet, snow possible tornadoes). Each of Mim's caregivers visited her and called constantly to check on her well being. All went above and beyond what was written in their job descriptions. I will never forget this and I wholeheartedly offer my recommendation for this firm and the people who work there. They are the Angels when you need them!
