I really didn't feel comfortable with the sign on the door. "Roosevelt students not buying a smoothing must remain outside. Thank you" Does this rule apply for single mothers getting a smoothie? Should the kids wait outside as well? It's only -12° today. How about the group of friends Rick, Ruben, Rodney, and William. Rick and Ruben have money and Rodney has a coupon for a free smoothie. William spent all of his extra money on rent for his parents apartment this month because they are out of work. Should William wait outside in the cold as well? How about the delivery driver. Should he be pressured to buy a smoothie if he goes to pick up an order? The sign is very unclear and frankly very ugly, in my opinion. It lacks detail, direction and clear purpose. I've had a smoothie here twice now and both have been great! Their menu is extensive and there really is something for everyone, whether you're looking for something sweet, nutrient packed, filling or health conscious, every single choice is made with great ingredients and zero filler crap. They do juice and soup cleanses too! Thus far I've tried the piña colada smoothie (tastes just like the real deal sans alcohol), and the mango pineapple. If you get a smoothie here, you can let it melt and it won't turn into that creepy, foamy mess that you often get with Jamba Juice (who puts sherbet in their smoothies - yuck!). The employees are really nice, the shop is clean, and you can take your smoothie outside to sit on the back patio if you wanna hang for a bit. First of all, The Juice Company is amazing! They have a huge menu, but nothing is set in stone. They'll mix or change any item to suit your tastes or dietary needs! Today I had a piña colada since I was at an outdoor, sunny party. ~Yes, I like piña coladas, getting caught in the rain, not all that into yoga, yep I have (at least) half a brain.~ The drink was flavorful and each ingredient had a main role to play. I had a chance to speak with Sylvia, the owner, about their super fresh and often locally sourced ingredients. I had no idea how many of the foods they use were able to be produced and purchased nearby. She also told me about their soups in addition to the soup fasts. Apparently a soup fast has the same calories as a juice fast and is great for those who feel like they must eat and can't just do a drinking fast. Of course they have juice fast juices as well as all of the ones on the board. She was so insightful and at the end of talking with her I not only felt informed, but proud to have a business like this in our community! They clearly really care about the people here as well as local businesses! It's 100x better than any Jamba Juice or similar national chain. This is the real deal, with real ingredients and a great asset to the state! Add to that the fact of me now being a little addicted after having so many mind blowing drinks from here, and you can bet this will be a stop on the way to or from work most days...or for lunch. I've heard so many good things about this place. My friend has gone here with various ailments (read: hangovers and needing to get those bowels to work properly) and gotten recommendations from the staff about what to get. I get fairly frequent migraines and she knew someone who went here and got a recommendation even for that! I was sold a pile of lies (though I acknowledge they may have been oversold). The staff barely acknowledged us when we arrived and when asked about headaches, the staff just said anything will probably help. Everything looked fairly generic and one smoothy had a warning on it for non smoothy drinkers. I steered clear of that one and got one with a mix of fruit and veggies. For the price, it was incredibly underwhelming. I feel like I could make the same at home and save $6. I didn't feel like it was anything special and bonus, it gave me a terrible migraine. We were passing through Des Moines at breakfast time on a cross-country trip, and this was the only smoothie place that we could find open as early as we were coming through. Despite being the only ones in the store, we were not greeted when we came through the door, and when we mentioned it was our first time there, we were disappointed to be met with silence rather than any recommendations or questions. The smoothies were just alright. Basically one or two fruits blended with soft-serve yogurt. Nothing wrong with them, but the flavors showed the same lack of initiative as the employees. For $6 apiece, I'd love a smoothie experience more on par with Tropical Smoothie Cafe or even Jamba Juice. One additional note. When we arrived at the store, it had a pervasive and pungent foul odor throughout. If my nose was calibrated properly, I would identify it as spoiled dairy. Given the significant quantity of flies circling the garbage can near the front door, my guess is that the trash had not been taken out the night before and we were smelling yesterday's yogurt. For this reason alone, we wouldn't go back. We wouldn't have ordered at all save for the proximity to the freeway, our fatigue, our unfamiliarity with Des Moines, and the lack of options at that hour. read more

Pretty good, local juice store. I went here for the wheat grass shots after work. I had been there twice on my way home from work. On both of my visits, I had the wheat grass shots, and they were OK. Both times the staff just reached into the refrigerator and pulled out a container of wheat grass juice for the shots. I was really disappointed that the wheat grass shots were not freshly juiced. My only other experience with wheat grass was at Fresh Cafe, who juices their shots on-demand. So, I originally was planning to give this place a (2) star rating, but I decided to try this place out in the morning instead of the evening. On my morning visit, I was pleasantly surprised. My wheat grass shot was still poured from a contain from the refrigerator, but the wheat grass was much fresher. I spoke with the owner, Sylvia, who said that they do juice wheat grass fresh throughout the day but stop towards the evening. I also tried some of their own juice recipes: mean green juice and green hornet juice. Both were good but the mean green juice is more intense. I also really like their business hours. They open at 7:30 AM during the week so I can get my wheat grass fresh in the morning before work! Good place for wheat grass. I have to go back here in the summer to sit on the patio. As for the smoothie, it was healthy and as tasty as one would expect of a wheat grass shake. Although the smoothie was pretty tasty, I was very disappointed by the service. I saw a flyer advertising juice cleansing on their window when entering the place, so I asked the person who took my order if she could tell me more about it. She passed me off to the other woman in the store who just put seven plastic cups of different sizes filled with different colored liquids on the counter and said, "This is a one day order for someone else," That's it. No explanation of what a juice cleanse program is nor what they put in the different drinks. Just four "green drinks" (her words, not mine) and three smaller fruit drinks. I felt like I was playing twenty questions just to find out more and even then, her answers were ambiguous at best.
